Rio 2016

October 3rd, 2009 at 8:36 am by David Farrar

As I said earlier in the week, I’m glad the Olympics are not going back to the US so soon. Really no country should host them more than once in a generation.

Rio will be the first South American Olympics.

Great for Brazil for sure, but I would wish to be wearing a bullet proof vest watching the Olympics in Rio….

I guess there is plenty of time to get things all tickety boo to host…

DPF – agree that it is good that the Olympics are not going back to the US of A

Yes agree – great decision, the Olympics should be about opening up the world not closing
it off to a small group of elite countries.

I guess Madrid didn’t do themselves any favours with ETA..

Just imagine the size of the carbon footprint of the Olympics.

Question: Why aren’t the global warmists protesting this?

Answer: Because they are nothing more than redistributive hypocrites and the biggest one is Obama.

Fantastic news, this will be great for the people of Brazil.

Plus, you have the added bonus of it being a huge slap on the face for B Hussein Messiah Obama and his Mrs who thought that her tax payer funded jaunt to Copenhagen was “a sacrifice”

Oh so all that personal lobbying by Michelle and Barry seems to have come to nought.

hope and change indeed, but as no nation is better than any others, it was just hegemonic hubris for the US to expect to host yet another Olympics so soon after the last one…

Perhaps the Olympic committee is simply racist?

I think it should move between the continents, simple as then the continents can sort out who is going to represent them and all get behind that country.
All the countries take it in turn to host, again so simple but then it does limit the bakeesh flow a bit doesn’t it?

Old Mac Daddy and his shady mates will be spewing. Looks like the Olympics would have lined a privileged few pocket’s. Shit, they will have to go back to racketeering and corruption. Seems the great Mac Daddy can’t walk on water after all, good fucking job.

@democracymum: Nothing to do with ETA that Madrid missed out.

Very surprising they made it as far as the final given that the previous Olympics are also in Europe.

    Agreed; fantastic news.

RADVAD….Seeing as you are keeping a talley.. It took over a million pounds of carbon emissions for Obamahinajad to take Air Force One to Copenhagen and another 350,000 pounds for Michelle to take a separate plane. There were also separate planes for cargo/luggage etc.(Fox last night).Wouldn’t mind going for the dirty dancing though.

Chicago came 4th out of 4. Obama had to give it a go– every other candidate city’s national leader was there.
Obama was damned if he didn’t go.

Now that Rogge is in charge the IOC seem to have become a lot more multi-lateral. With Juan Antonio this would have been a done deal months ago.

Looking at the opening ceremony only… imagine the contrast: Hollywood tinsel, plastic and not-so-subtle commercials placements, or Rio-style extravaganza. I know which I’d rather attend.
