VUWSA SRC policies are not enforceable if they require expenditure by the executive. A General Meeting motion is required to enforce expenditure from the executive.

Because executive meetings are public singing smoke two joints would require a performance royalty to be paid. This would need to be paid by VUWSA and therefore the executive have decided that this SRC policy is invalid and it cannot be enforced.

VUWSA often decides these sorts of exceptions to policies in many cases and so they do not often repeal decisions at further SRC meetings. They often argue that staff time / emails / research / communication / submission all require expenditure and that invalidates almost all policies if they do not wish to apply them.

VUWSA’s policies don’t really mean much. A “policy” passed in 2004 – which has not been overturned – was that the VUWSA exec must sing ‘Smoke two joints’ by Sublime before every exec meeting. As far as I am aware this policy has not been implemented.

Heh. Reminds me of the SRC yonks ago at Otago University, when the constitution was amended. The office of president was renamed Emperor, the term extended to life, and the stipend increased to 10% of the association’s budget !

[DPF: Liam was made King not Emperor, but yes it was a lifetime appointment. Of course at the next SRC he was shot with water pistols by assassins yelling out "The only good Kennedy is a dead Kennedy ]
