Greens partially divorce National

Claire Browning at Pundit has what appears to be an exclusive scoop:
Last month, here on Pundit, I speculated that all was not well between the Greens and the government. Former co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons did not wish to comment then, but now she’s speaking out. The Greens have concluded that the energy efficiency and conservation part of the relationship is unsustainable, she and Gerry Brownlee cannot work together, and energy efficiency and conservation should, therefore, be deleted from the National-Greens memorandum of understanding (MOU).
I’m not sure who to blame (Browning points strongly to process failures within National but yet to hear if they have a different view on it) but regard it as unfortunate that the formalised co-operation won’t continue in this area. I thought the MOU was a well intentioned initiative, saying we disagree on most things but will work together on some areas we do agree.
As far as I can tell Claire’s exclusive has yet to be reported in the traditional media, so people are seeing it online first.

I am not surprised. National has continuously undermined the previous Government’s climate change policy. Just think of reversing the ban on thermal stations. biofuel industry destruction, freezing the ETS and then destroying any efficiency it may have had, a very poor CO2 reduction target, even efficient bloody lightbulbs were attacked.
Maybe the Greens realise that the MOU was totally worthless and a waste of the paper it was written on.
Backing away at least gives them the chance to say the truth about National.
What does that blue-green sector do again?
November 10th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
I am mildly and pleasantly surprised. It’s jolly decent of the greens to cut the rope that held their sinking dinghy to National’s ocean liner. I hope it ushers in a new era of sensibility on environmental issues for NZ.

The pervious governments climate change policy of making nice noises while emisions increase by 26% under Clark?
Sounds like it could do with some uindermining.
Menawhile the greens packing a sad about National is really todays give a crap moment.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Careful Murray, giving a crap causes global warming.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Indeed Murray – it is a “scoop” of such moment that if fits snugly into the “You’ve Obviously Mistaken Me for Someone Who DOES Give a Shit” department!

Jeanette has a guest post on Pundit explaining what happened from her perspective.
Maybe you could solicit one from Gerry to get his side of the story, DPF.
[DPF: I don't generally solicit posts from any MP, but am generally open to running a guest post if they send me one]
November 10th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
Oh dear, how sad,…………….. never mind.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
And still so not caring.

What on earth gives the watermelons the idea that anybody gives a fuck what they think?
November 10th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
If the melons think that by moving back closer to Liarbour will give then some stength then they had better check what they are smoking.
The only chance the melons have of gaining traction is to tie a rope to the Nats and work bloody hard at getting some wins from within the tent.
The latest from Jeanette is prehaps her parting gift to red wussel and company.

Goodbye greens, at least you have a good superannuation scheme eh? Don’t forget to turn out the lights as you leave parliament, otherwise you’re likely to end up drowning in your beds. http://climaterealists.com/index.php?id=4314

Could be because science is continuing to undermine the existence of [arthrogenic] climate change
November 10th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
rightnow..the last poll had them on 7.5%…
the unfolding economic and environmental nightmares..
and the ineffectual responsed from national to both..
ensures that they will be the sinking ship..

Speaking of things that no one gives a crap about…
November 10th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
The less the government has to do with the lunatic Greens, the better for our country.
Reaching compromise with the Luddites is like selling your soul to the devil (Marx would be more appropriate).
November 10th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
Murray – for someone who doesn’t “give a crap” three posts claiming as much would suggest otherwise… either that or you have nothing better to do…
November 10th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
no no manolo..!..didn’t you get the memo..?
it is the climatechange-deniers/freemarketeers who are the ‘new luddites’..

I’m a fan of our planet and we need to get our shit together .. NZ’s contribution to the problems is fuck all but all for one etc.
So, I have green inclinations but when you look at our (NZ’s) Green MP’s . ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
November 10th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Given that National’s version of the ETS abandons market principles, provides for direct transfer of our taxes to business interests based on how much they emit and has every indication of being another form of corporate welfare, the notion that National actually has a future in government is laughable. A future in graft, corruption and utter immorality perhaps… but those are merely what often passes for government here in NZ…. any resemblance to the real thing is purely superficial and based on skilled tailoring.
Greens have seen enough of what Brownlee is offering to know that National won’t ever hold up its end of the deal. I’ve always been a fan of giving people enough rope and I’ve never seen any group so eager to tie a noose around their own necks… except perhaps the last labour government.

Partially divorced?
Greens partially pregnant?
Greens were once green, now they are red on the inside
November 10th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
I attempted a more fulsome comment but all I really wanted to say was “meh”…
November 10th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
“Greens partially divorce National”
excellent. I hope the Nats use this new single marital status to go do some serious rooting
November 10th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Once again the Nats are too late. Rodders has already done the serious rooting (and at the taxpayer expense) in numerous exotic locations. Funny really, to look at him you wouldn’t think he had a good one in him.
November 10th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
What a lot of deep thinkers. At least read the Fitzsimon post on Pundit which outlines what Brownlee’s obsessions will eventually cost us in terms of both emissions and fuel. The majority of comment on this string is puerile and reveals the same sort of knee-jerk foolishness that Muldoon appealed to when he scrapped the super scheme we so sadly miss today.

NOt1tocommentoften
1. A comment that no one cared backed by others ranging from “what he said”, to “meh”.
2. A comfirmation for the benefit of toad that his paid trolling hasn’t changed that lack of interest stance.
2. A reference to the fact that nothing the drug wrecked violent offender phool has to say is of any interest as well.
Evdidently plain English was too cryptic for you.
By the way did you know that I don’t actually need your permission or approval for anything I do.
So consequently; 4. I don’t give a crap what you have to say either.
