What a lot of deep thinkers. At least read the Fitzsimon post on Pundit which outlines what Brownlee’s obsessions will eventually cost us in terms of both emissions and fuel. The majority of comment on this string is puerile and reveals the same sort of knee-jerk foolishness that Muldoon appealed to when he scrapped the super scheme we so sadly miss today.

Given that National’s version of the ETS abandons market principles, provides for direct transfer of our taxes to business interests based on how much they emit and has every indication of being another form of corporate welfare, the notion that National actually has a future in government is laughable. A future in graft, corruption and utter immorality perhaps… but those are merely what often passes for government here in NZ…. any resemblance to the real thing is purely superficial and based on skilled tailoring.

Greens have seen enough of what Brownlee is offering to know that National won’t ever hold up its end of the deal. I’ve always been a fan of giving people enough rope and I’ve never seen any group so eager to tie a noose around their own necks… except perhaps the last labour government.
