I think we need to cull a few too. 120 is far too many for such a small country, and the result is that parliament is full of the dregs and sweepings of public life. We haven’t seen an active, forward looking government in living memory, and the salaries and benefits are excessive for the current level of performance. Lazy, mouthy, a**holes don’t need travel allowances or 5 figure salaries, you get find a dozen on any street who’ll work for 2/3 of the average wage.

Performance pay is what we need in Parliament, and under such a regime 90% of the present incumbents wouldn’t make a cent.

JK’s response seemed very weak. Why did he rule out Winston Peters but is happy to put up with Hone Harawira in his support crew?

Unfortunately, JK has learned the truth that it is much easier to criticize parties and MPs when you’re the opposition and have nothing to lose. When you’re in Govt and have to rely on the support of minor parties, or at least the goodwill of minor parties then it’s not so easy to take action against a rogue MP from one of those parties.

This is MMP showing it’s ugly head again; we have to dump this system, and soon!

In the meantime, I see someone has started a Facebook group called ‘Fire Hone Harawira for being a racist C**T!!(Race equality in NZ)’, that has over 350 members already.

I should feel sorry for the guy; he’s obviously been filled with hate by his mother and others. What about all the good things the white man has brought to this country, eh? To say nothing of the way Maori treated the “Patu-paiarehe” or Turehu who were here already when they arrived.

As a current student at Waikato Uni (History Major), I have been subjected to a tirade about the Treaty and its absolute unfairness to Maori, best summed-up in the phrase ‘Maori Good, Whitey Bad’, the lecturers (both European and Maori), being in no doubt that all Maori ills are caused by this document, to the point that it was becoming offensive.

As the University of Waikato is of course the centre of Maori studies (and grievances – imagined or otherwise), this ongoing (over)-emphasis on the Treaty of Waitangi is only to be expected. We even had a ‘Treaty Week’ in case the pint was missed!!

There is however, a very subtle shift going on, and Hone is a manifestation of this, namely that where at one time the ‘conflict’ was between Maori and GOVERNMENT as perpetrators of supposed ‘crimes’ concerning land removal, it has now become one between Maori and ANYONE with European ancestry (yes, there is a contradiction, since all Maori now have a European component in their gene pool, but that is ignored – conveniently), and it is now becoming increasingly personal.

This is of course ‘revisionist’ history at its best (with Jamie Belich being seen as the hero of the Revisionists’) and it is this pro-Maori, ‘Whiteman-bad’ stance that is now being taught in schools – and has been for around a decade – Dear Leader’s legacy to our future.

As this new. Maori-sympathetic view, fits in exactly with, and emphasises Maori wrongs (along with the treaty commission), it is not surprising that Hone believes it – its what he has been taught. The fact that it might actually be wrong, is of course something he has not bothered to consider – after all, if Belich says it is correct therefore it must be.

Hone is not therefore alone – just the latest public manifestation of the process, and no doubt more such diatribes will emerge in due course.

Sad really – but at least the country now knows.

Why dont you do some independant research yourself. Maybe when you know the background to things like Parihaka, you might actually know why the government took such a heavy hand with the peaceful people there. Maybe something to do with many of the followers being much the same as the ones who attacked and killed settles in the Taranaki, practiced cannibalism on english soldiers and were responsible for massive deaths of civilians in New Plymouth due to the overcrowding when they were driven from their homesteads. Maybe you should also learn about Te Kooti, and see what a good sport he was to Maori and settlers alike. ‘Revisionists’ are the like of James Belich and jusith Binney who praise him as a warrior prophet rather than cold slaver and murder he was.

and guess what????????? Maori fought with government forces, especially with the armed constabulary. Te Arawa, Ngati Porou and Lower Wanganui tribes having a major part in the fighting with Te Kooti and the Hau Hau.

That is not to say that all government actions were without fault. In war there is no absolutes, but Maori commited atrocities on innocents far worse than just death. As for the genocide claims, you have have been caught up in liberal guilt crap.
