Labour MP of the Year – Trevor Mallard
National MP of the Year – Lockwood Smith
Minor Party MP of the Year – John Boscawen
Press Gallery Journalist of the Year – Phil Kitchin (if he’s not technically eligible, Patrick Gower)
Public Servant of the Year – John Whitehead. Telling truth to power requires courage, Telling it what it wants to hear requires Margaret Bazley.

1. Simon Power – dismantling the justice system and rebuilding it piece by wonderful piece.
2. Phil Goff – he’s done more for National than any politician since Cullen.
3. Lockwood Smith, with an honourable mention to Judith Collins and Tony Ryall. Oh and Westie.
4. Tariana Turia – has operated behidn the scenes and is just getting on with helping run the country. Other politicians should take note.
5. Fran O’Sullivan. Daylight second.
6. Paul Henry – “that is a moustache on a lady”. Prepared to say what we’re thinking.

1. MP of the Year – Gerry Brownlee – good debater, doesn’t back down, is the go-to guy for unfashionable issues like mining.
2. Labour MP of the Year – Phil Goff – yes he blundered a bit, but also held the govt to account for all the stupid things it did, like buying the Maori Party’s support for a stupid ETS.
3. National MP of the Year – Gerry Brownlee.
4. Minor Party MP of the Year – Roger Douglas – VSM Bill could make a positive difference to tens of thousands of students’ lives.
5. Press Gallery Journalist of the Year – Fran O’Sullivan. Espiner, Clifton etc are eternally negative fence-sitters, anxious to avoid ever praising a particular party, merely arrogantly criticising all and sundry.
6. Public Servant of the Year – Don Brash – his resilience and politeness in the face of outrageous personal attacks is commendable. Always keeps his cool. And his taskforce report was excellent – criticisms that it was politically untenable were somewhat unfair – e.g. he avoided advocating flat tax, or capital gains. But people chose to ignore these things.

National MP of the Year – Simon William English — not the trougher the media made him out to be; steadiness and good grace while under sometimes-abusive fire.
Minor Party MP of the Year – Heather Roy — she should be in National.
Press Gallery Journalist of the Year – Jane Clifton
Public Servant of the Year – Dame Margaret Bazley. Her report on legal aid might have been short of facts, but it’s fair to say that for a septuagenarian she can still deliver a hefty punch.

for revealing personal info. on members of the public in order to silence their criticisms. IMHO this is huge, and scary.

for bringing Sth Akl Maori to Mt Albert to steal your TV au (and bringing Labour heaps of votes in the process.)

for unworkable Boy racer legislation, especially the cruising law. (Car enthusiasts, unlike Uni students, should not be free to associate.)

3. National MP of the Year – Noone since none are willing to stand up to Nick Smith and John Key re climate change foolishness
4. Minor Party MP of the Year – John Boscowen
5. Press Gallery Journalist of the Year – Ian Wishart for doing investigative journalism, especially on ETS and climate change
6. Public Servant of the Year – John Whitehead for telling Bill English the true state of the economy (not a word-mincer). Don Brash too, but he was a consultant, rather than a public servant.
