Look DPF is as fruity as a Hawaiin tropical fruit salad with warm vanilla yoghurt thrown in. I have no problem with that. The problem I have is why it took so long for him to come out. He is a living example of my point that NZ is way too homophobic.

Trout, the more I read this the more I see what is wrong with "Kiwis".

"What Robert Black should take into account is that in global terms NZ is just a village. In this village the small population is scattered, and the residents have the space and freedom to express all sorts of opinions, bitch and moan amongst themselves, and see as news what others in the outside world may see as trivia. But they can maintain direct contact with their leaders and influence law making. They may be even distantly related to their sports heroes. It is also a very tolerant (some say too tolerant) society. If the alternative is a society where the population is alienated, disenfranchised, intolerent, and controlled by the powerful; where there is constant warring between extreme political views (as in other developed countries) then we will be grateful for our way of life given its limitations."

I agree New Zealand is just a village. I agree that the nation is pretty inbred with such a small population and so many intelligent open-minded people leaving the country annually. I totally disagree that New Zealand is a tolerant society. Are you kidding? It is one of the most intolerant populations in the world. There is nothing a good Kiwi likes more than seeing another Kiwi crash and burn especially in the media. Homophobes, just a tiny example of this. The population is not totally controlled by TV media? Well, seeing as I got a few thumbs up above maybe there is a glimmer of hope despite the 20 demerits. As a writer and lawyer I believe in the freedom of speech and justice for all.

Take it easy DPF aren't I allowed to reply to posters here? Or is it DPF's freedom of speech?

Haha, Merry Xmas!

Dear Aunt Robert,
I have a friend who I think is heterophobic. Yesterday I caught him staring at the breasts of a woman in a revealing top, but when I confronted him about it he grew angry and repeatedly denied it, insisting that he had in fact been staring at the guy she was with. Then last night when I went to borrow his computer to check my farm on Farmville I saw in the google drop down box that he had been searching for teen cheerleader movies. I don't think many of them are men so I am worried that perhaps he actually finds young women in short skirts and tight sweaters physically appealing.
Now I am no hetero, but I can spot one straight away; the way they hold their hands rigid from the wrist as if they were used to swinging hammers and tennis racquets, the way their un-moisturised faces appear weathered and rugged, the way they walk one foot then the next with no sense of hip-swinging rhythm and the way they just leave even a hint of sensuality out their voices when talking to other men. Well my friend is still moisturising every morning (although he seems to just be going through the motions lately) but I have noticed the hip rhythm is turning into more of a purpose-ful stride lately, and when talking to other men he is outright professional without even a hint of flirting.
So Dear Aunt Robert, I need your advice... is it fashionable this year to wear white jeans after dark?

^^what a ridiculously off-topic, ad hominem comment. Will be interesting to see if DPF deletes that one too...?

And you fail to understand the whole mindset of "the left", if you think it is "spend, spend for no purpose". IMHO it is ALL about the purpose.

Haha - excellent.

Don't really see the point in my tax dollars paying for Brownlee to do stand-up improv on the subject of NOTHING for nearly 5 minutes, but I guess parliament has always had a bit of that. And Brownlee is very, very funny for a rightie. Almost Lange-esque I thought...

(Since my first attempt at a - qualified - endorsement of this was taken down for some reason. Yay kiwiblog, yay transparency etc...)

What Robert Black should take into account is that in global terms NZ is just a village. If the alternative is a society where the population is alienated, disenfranchised, intolerent, and controlled by the powerful; where there is constant warring between extreme political views (as in other developed countries) then we will be grateful for our way of life given its limitations.

The content of the exchange was no more than a bit amusing in places for me.

What made it worthwhile was the body language, seeing pollies obviously having a lot of fun amongst themselves, refreshing to see them acting like normal people. I thought the funniest was the looks on Lockwood's face as he got drawn in to faciliate.

I showed the vid to Mrs Inventory this morning, who normally switches off to anything remotely political. For it to have extracted a belly-laugh from her suggests that it was humour of a very high order!

Robert Black said "But it was way too homophobic, which is another one of lil ol Noo Zealands problems. "

Bollocks Robert - the problem is that we have been forced to pander so much to minority groups, that everyone has to watch what they say all the time. Where was your opprobrium when Trevor Mallard and Clayton Cosgrove were calling a gay Nat minister "Tinkerbell"? That's homophobia!

New Zealand is a beautiful country and my heart is there, especially for the beaches. But in reality the people are just farmers, small town, closed minded gossipers, homophobes, changeophobes, winging poms, complaining Maoris, jugmental farmers and anyone who has lived in New Zealand then in a more open minded country knows this, masturbate over the All Blacks then suffer into depression when they fail, follow the local TV and media blindly, complain that you have mediocre politicians, complain after the event, complain you have a high violent crime rate, a huge drug and alcohol problem, a huge teenage suicide problem, complain after the event, do the Haka as a white person when in your heart you hate the Maori culture, listen to American stars call your country New England but still feel proud to be there, suffer what you deserve to suffer as a nation of bleeting sheep.

Because that is what you are in reality a tiny nation of bleeting, complaining, after the fact sheep and farmers.

Beautiful and clean country though.

[DPF: 20 demerits - way off topic and trolling]

If you ask a female colleague out to go tramping with you, does she immediately suggest you want to have sex with her? Maybe she wants sex with you but she won't assume that you asked her to have sex with her, that is a homophobic standard. Anyway, I'm out, gf back. Love to continue this discussion later. OK, so you feel threatened now? Haha. Merry Xmas.
