The Aucklander Awards

December 30th, 2009 at 8:31 pm by David Farrar

Oh this is hilarious. The Aucklander gives out it awards for 2010. The categories are:

  1. Most overinflated view of a local body role.
  2. Most creative charity contribution.
  3. Most persistent request to be left alone.
  4. Most petulant outburst.
  5. Most relentless pursuit of the facts.
  6. Most frightful drug reaction.
  7. Most ingratiating brush with real celebrity.
  8. Most insincere apology.
  9. Most welcomed media silence.
  10. Most unsuccessful media silence.

The winner of all ten awards is North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams. It must be so embarrassing if you live on the North Shore to have to admit Williams is your Mayor. I wonder if house prices have declined on the Shore since he was elected?

I live in Greenhithe, on the Shore.

AW is a 1 trick pony. He was elected as a protest over George Woods involvement in getting in with another mad Mayor, Bob Harvey (Waitakere) and the proposed development of Whenuapai Airbase as a commercial airport. We are on the flightpath so a lot of people voted for AW based on this. I voted for him I admit, even knowing AW had some peculiar streaks in him, to say the least. But that was the major election issue on the Shore in the last election. His core base, the snobs from Takapuna/Devonport did not turn out in any number I beleive.

As for house prices, they are doing well on the Shore and SOLD signs are going up all over the place. I am sure the Airbase decision has made Greenhithe an even better place to live. My neighbour across the road just sold his house privately for $1.8M.

  2. Nick Kearney (542) Says:

All of the Mayor’s problems are apparently all my fault. Astonishing how I can force him to text the PM and then get the PM to run the story in the paper.

Williams said the drinking allegations and furore over the Key text, were part of a campaign to discredit him because of his opposition to the Supercity.

He said Wood and Glenfield Community Board members Nick Kearney and David Thornton were among those working “under the radar” to undermine him, and said the plot had links to the Act Party.

Kearney, who is an Act member, said he knew nothing of the Key text until the story broke in the media and denied there was a campaign to upset Williams: “He’s doing a good enough job himself, he doesn’t need me to help.”

Andrew should join Kiwiblog. Most here are conspiracy theorists anyway and he would have a great time.

Luckily, I didn’t vote last election here. I had only recently arrived from Mt Albert and felt caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

But I agree Nick, AW doesn’t need any help to self destruct. He should just go quietly now, because he has no show in the next election.

Me, I’m looking forward to getting my free Auckland City library membership back when we are all one happy family!

I am not embarrassed to live on the Shore. We know AW is a jerk. I too voted on the Whenuapai Airbase Issue.
Take note now AW, North Shore voters are going to do to you what NZ did to Helen Clark. Next election I will do more research so I do not end up voting for a child.

This is what happens when freedom hating National party apparatchiks are put in charge of things.

Funnily enough when I was reading the list for the first time (drug addiction, petulance) I thought they were referring to Nick Smith ;)

Elijah, what does National have to do with this – it seems that Williams hates National?

NickK – have you been sending alcohol and pills to Williams?
