I know that Minto’s activities are news at a time when news agencies have low impact news wishes. Minto provides easy news to cover for TV,radio and papers.
Now wouldn’t the idea be to simply not report Minto’s activities because it is not “news” simply because it is not new. Minto has done this for the last few years.
Cut off Minto’s activities by not reporting him.
With the risk of being off-topic, the rot going on in the Antarctic with the Sea Shepherd, the third year in a row they have been there, with these idiots milking Anti-Whaling activity.
In conclusion, cut off publicity to these idiots.

Unless protesters are just trying to get some attention for themselves the aim of protest action is to influence a favourable change.

At best, if Sharar had said “ok, your megaphone serves have aced me, I’m going home” what would that have achieved? The Israeli government is not going to change anything based on the racket made by a last century protester and a handful of hangers-on.

Instead, Shahar has had far more support and publicity than she would ever have had without the protest. She will have felt the real kiwi vibe, that individuals have a right to take part in sport. That is more likely to encourage her to come back if anything.

I tend to agree with Pete (horrors). The good thing about freedom of speech is it allows people like Minto to make absolute fools of themselves.
The trouble is that at some point, you have to draw a line and arrest them which make them martyers in the eyes of their deluded mates AND gets them in the media.
Perhaps we could deport him to North Korea -the socialist utopia he yearns for – and let him try protesting there.

It’s funny that members of Global Peace and Justice Auckland were arrested under section 42 of the Crimes Act –

42 Preventing beach of the peace.

(1) Every one who witnesses a breach of the peace is justified in interfering to prevent its continuance or renewal, and may detain any person committing it, in order to give him into the custody of a constable:
provided that the person interfering shall use no more force than is reasonably necessary for preventing the continuance or renewal of the breach of the peace, or than is reasonably proportionate to the danger to be apprehended from its continuance or renewal.

(2) Every constable who witnesses a breach of the peace, and every person lawfully assisting him, is justified in arresting any one whom he finds committing it.

(3) Every constable is justified in receiving into custody any person given into his charge, as having been a party to a breach of the peace, by one who has witnessed it or whom the constable believes on reasonable and probable grounds to have witnessed it.

Trying to find out what can constitute a breach of the peace.

It’s a tough decision – do I ignore this angry old man with a chip on his shoulder? Nobody took any notice of him for years until he reminded them of the 81 tour. Then he gets into Fairfax and in the last few years he’s had a platform.

Ultimately I think it’s important to remind people that his views are biased by his hatred of the right. This is blind hatred – but it means his views are totally biased. He willingly distorts facts, twists logic and builds up straw men with which to base his arguments against

Section 16 of the Bill of Rights Act is as follows:

Freedom of peaceful assembly
Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly.

…obviously in many cases a balance has to be struck between the freedom – an important one – and other interests, such as those of the public to pass through the streets unimpeded, or of the wider community in the prevention of disorder.

The comparable right in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Article 21, explicitly provides that restrictions on peaceful assembly can be placed where the interest of national security or public safety, public order (ordre public), the protection of public health or morals, or the protection of the rights and freedoms of others are at risk.

The Court in Police v Beggs set out a framework to assist law enforcement officers and public officials that we consider may be of value when developing your policies regarding public assemblies. The Court stated:

…what is reasonable is not to be determined only by an analysis of that “which is disorderly, unlawful, or interferes with others in the exercise of their rights and freedoms”… we think other relevant considerations might include whether the assembly is unreasonably prolonged, the rights of the occupier and the size of the assembly and its duration, and the observance of ordinances in place to ensure the smooth functioning of gatherings and demonstrations.

Some of the comments on the blog from his supporters are funny and very ill informed.

One commenter called Polly praises Minto and then conculdes by writing “why do I have a funny feeling I’m being watched”.

She also rabbits on about how Palestinians don’t have time for tennis as they struggle to live from day to day and also there is no tennis courts in the whole of Palestine. What bullshit Pa;estinians have houses, shops, businesses, Police etc. People in Dafur struggle from day to day. Palestinians have soccer teams so why can’t they play tennis and I would love to find a photo of a tennis court as there must be one somewhere,

They like to think they’re being watched because it gives them an exagerated sense of self importance. A former PM had the same delusions.

These are the kind of people who would use Orwells 1984 as a training manual,not a warning.Once they were in power they would abuse the state apparatus to their own ends in the manner that they imagine the govt (SIS ,MI6, CIA , George Bush and his extended family, you know the usual suspects)are currently abusing its powers by supposedly watching these inconsequential pricks.

Thus the protests at Waihopai etc by the looney left,misguided priests etc

As to Palestinians, someone once said that if they dedicated 10% of the time they give to attacking Israel to actually building up their own society they’d have very few problems at all or words to that effect .If you think about it that could be applied to so many “national struggle” movements that only exist to further their corrupt leaders personal goals at the expense of the people being “Liberated”. ANC,FARC,IRA,Tamil Tigers,Taliban,LRA……the usual suspects.

Kowtow. Their attitude is all summed up by their actions when the settlers where removed from northern Gaza.

Houses, farms and greenhouses where left by the Israeli army in perfect condition (what would the Palestinians have done if it was the other way around? I would suggest all the buildings would have been fire bombed).

First thing the Palestinians did was destroy everything. If your neighbour moved out and had a perfectly functioning farm would you be greatful and take it over or be spiteful and then moan about having no food and livelihood?

SR one of my contacts in the region tells me the Egyptians are casually mentioning they do have artillery thanks.

I’m sure Minto will be outside the Egyptian embassy by early afternoon to sort this all out for us.

I believe it was $5,000,000 worth of glasshouses that were in fact a gift for them that they imediately destroyed.

Fairfucked NZ’s Christchurch Press tried to distance itself today from Minto by burying the report of his arrest and printing an editorial critical of him. Unfortunately, a cartoon dramatically supporting the Minto view appeared beside the editorial and destroyed the charade.

As a side issue: what happened to all the cartoons that used to make us smile, whether we agreed with them or not? The new cartoonists seem deadly serious as well as deadly leftist. Must be indoctrinated at one of the country’s ten or so taxpayer funded, journalist-training madrasas.

Its interesting how Mr Minto would rather protest against the Israeli government and not against the Iranian government’s response to political unrest post-general elections or North Korea’s so-called democracy, Fijian dictatorship, Zimbabwe and its deadlock or even human rights in China.

These issues are a lot closer to home and our relationship with China is no doubt the most important to New Zealand’s economy at this present time.
In fact all these issues are as equally important and yet Minto is no where to be seen, instead hes throwing smoke around outside a Tennis tournament and shouting “go home” to the Israeli sportswoman – just what will going home achieve Mr Minto?

Is her departure going to alter the position of the Israeli government on Gaza? Is it going to change the direction for peace and stability in the region?

This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to win over some descent media highlight and it certainly worked, he now has a growing number of Kiwis that pity him.

Iraq kept playing international tournaments even during the war, so the presence of a national soccer team doesn’t mean the prescence of peace.
