I will not watch Q+A so long as that fuckwit Paul Holmes fronts the show. He is not and never has been a “journalist”, not even a pretender.

Will Therese Arseneau ask Goff if it was in fact LABOUR which increased CEO salaries by 25% over five years, beginning in 2005? Somehow, I doubt it!
Vote:January 30th, 2010 at 10:15 pm
David .. I agree that PHolmes isn’t the right person here (I liked Simon Dallow) .. and I2, I sense Therese is a lefty. I want someone to go for Goffs jugular about all the hypocritical stances the Labour Party are taking. Goff will go all touchy and will end the interview with his goofy smile.
Vote:January 30th, 2010 at 10:18 pm
If you want someone to go for Goff’s jugular jaba, don’t hold your breath waiting for Arseneau

I tries watching Q+A last season, but honestly, that Therese Arseneau just makes my skin crawl every time she opens her silly mouth. She seems to know almost nothing and those wide open bug-eyes and the excessive hair gel are simply ridiculous.
If TVNZ are going to try to present a political program then they surely can do better than this hideous characature.

Great interview with Hone, he swatted that Holmes away and made him look like an amateur, brilliant stuff.
Vote:If Goff could actually answer a question with a straight honest answer instead of prattling away in monotone sound bites ad nauseum without saying anything he might get a lift in popularity. He is probably not a bad sort of a joker but he appears to have had his personality lobotomized.

That was a good one to watch.
Goff – comes across as nice enough but too much political waffling, not leadership inspiring, agree with some but not all, so much of what he says about policy is so tainted by what Labour didn’t do.
Harawira – the highlight for me, rarely get a chance to have a better look/listen beyond the sound bites. He’s smart, knowledgeable, likable and funny. A politician who can answer a question with one simple word! Holmes wasn’t prepared for any followups, had rings run around him. Harawira gave me a better insight into and understanding of Maori issues.
Foreshore and seabed – suddenly Hone made it clear to me.
a) Maori ownership of foreshore and seabed – I understand this is a principle of mana
b) Can never be sold
c) Unrestricted access to all
Makes sense, everyone can win from that.

Pete
” He’s smart, knowledgeable, likable”
I dunno about you Pete but any racist thug who calls me a “white mother fucker” and a “rapist” is NEVER going to be high on my Christmas card list.
Is it possible you are letting him off lightly because he is Maori?
Vote:January 31st, 2010 at 10:23 am
It’s got nothing to do with whether he is Maori or not.
On the “white mf” issue all I heard was a few selected quotes and a lot of other people jumping up and down and ranting.
On Q&A I heard Hone able to speak for himself, to answer. He admitted his choice of language was wrong. And he explained a lot more than the media ever tried to explain. I can also see now how many Maori may see him as representing them, what they think, what they want. It’s important they are represented in parliament.
Hone seems to be a lot more capable than a few soundbites indicate.

“Is it possible you are letting him off lightly because he is Maori?”
Of course ! This is how “liberals” demonstrate their racial virtue. This is how “liberals” soothe their souls over New Zealand’s post-colonial history. This is why “liberals” will give someone like Harawira a pass to say anything as stupid as he likes, but quake in fear over the idea of ever having to call him out on it. Pathetic.

Angus, that sounds like a meaningless political rant.
I was listening and taking in what I heard with an open mind, that’s all. Something you might find hard to understand by the sound of things.
Vote:January 31st, 2010 at 10:51 am
Who does that?
He sounded anything but stupid on Q&A, made Holmes look a bit stupid with his simple honest answers (contrasting with Goff’s politicspeak).
Who does that?
You could say that about your own comments.

Hone is a racist dickhead and one of those professional Maoris committed to maintaining the belief that Maori are victims. As victims it is a lot easier to ignore the real problems and blame those dirty colonists. What I find scary is the amount of support he can muster in his electorate.
Vote:Pete George @ 10.10……… if you believe that maybe we could discuss a large bridge I have for sale. Very cheap, very clean.

Personal dislike is not way to judge the merit of the argument. Didn’t see Q+ A but if Hone performed as he usually has in the past then he will have been well above the others on the show. Don’t forget he gave the two best speeches in the house over the ETS and the EFA. Credit where credit is due.
Contrast him to Smith and or Cullen or Annette or many other wasters in the house.

Hone is probably more eloquent in an ordinary bloke sort of a way than Key is. He comes across as genuine and believable. I’m only commenting on what I heard on Q&A. I suspect those criticising him here either didn’t hear him speak, or listened and heard what they wanted to hear. Holmes didn’t listen to him very well either.
What is scary about him representing the views of a lot of people? That is surely what MPs are supposed to do.
Vote:You might not find it so scary if you took the time to try and understand what he says.

Um, the Answers have nothing to do with the Question, noticed that?
