The national flag is a different issue ,keep it that way and keep it the same.

Then perhaps we should replace the Union Jack with the yellow stars and red field of the Chinese flag; we’re more tied up with China now than with the US and Britain with regard to free trade agreements and such. China is also ” look[ing] to acquire assets in the Australasian resources and food sectors, market sources say.” (the Chelsea sugar works etc).

I wonder how long it is before we don’t own anything in this country.

Britain has gotten over Rome and the Angles and Saxons and Jutes and France and doesn’t feel a need to represent any of them on it’s flag.

When I saw the example of the black flag with the silver fern my heart rate shot up and I almost shed a tear all the way from Beijing.

And as you know I am not the proudest of Kiwis these days.

The bleeting sheep country is culturally doomed.

So there is no way there is going to be a great flag for the country.

It is only fair given her Artistic prowess, and she still owns the Labour Party.

I’m not sure if you realize this but changing the NZ Flag is in fact one of the earlier steps in favour of Republicanism, it is often an indication of support for being a Republic.

It might be his own personal opinion but he is also leader of an administration that has shown reluctance towards Republicanism and also serves the NZ Constituency as Prime Minister, a constituency that hasn’t been given an opportunity to voice its opinion on the matter as of yet.

Its a bit like opposing Maori Sovereignty but providing your preferred structure for it to exist under, it just seems rather indecorous to me.

I think he hits it right on the head. It’s like we’re ashamed of ‘Mother” Britain (or at least some others of you are).

and yet he seems more than happy to indicate to the press his preferred flag design: on prime time national television.

This is obviously more ammunition for those who argue that John Key is a puppet Prime Minister who will flow easily with popular public opinion, even if it shows leadership inconsistency, a lack of direction and clarity but more importantly the lack of great leadership in our very own prime minister.

Furthermore, he will do and/or say anything for public approval, regardless of what the truth might actually reveal.

Another grim day for NZ Politics, certainly not the first nor will it be the last.
