Flag Doodle almost at $20,000

February 12th, 2010 at 7:15 am by David Farrar

Incredible. The bidding for the John Key flag doodle has reached $19,238. Now I suspect the bidding is more for the morning tea with John (and Pippa) than the artwork itself – I certainly hope so!

As at 6 am:

  • Top Bid $19,238
  • 188 bids
  • Approx 250 questions and answers – many of these are hilarious. Well done to the TVNZ staffer answering them.
  • 73,622 page views

The Cure Kids charity will be pleased, especially with five days left in the auction.

A previous PM should take note: A lesser drawing done honestly is worth more than adopting anothers superior efforts….

I’m curious to know if the purchaser has copyright? Since the PM put the copyright symbol on the work, does copyright still lie with the PM? Can the purchaser make prints or put it on t-shirts etc?

Probably pretty cheap for the right lobby group wanting some face time with the PM.

Will Mr Lloyd Morrison please stop bidding.

And will Mr John Key please stop counter bidding.

We get it. You want a flag that’s a cross between a pirate ensign and a cheap marketing gimmick.

I think it is shameful that we should have to enter a public auction to have a cuppa with our PM.

Just Join the Maori party and he comes to you :-)

MikeNZ it was originally just a tv stunt, then a fundraising stunt for charity, *then* people started requesting a morning tea too.

maybe he could have morning teas every week so he could hear from the little people.
rather like FDR did with his radio fireside chats (though people couldn’t speak to him of course).
I’d love the opportunity to give him and earful (politely of course).

No need. Key does precisely that everytime he shaves in front of a mirror.

Helen Clark signs her signature on a painting she didn’t do, has it auctioned for a few hundred dollars, there is a police investigation and her supporters destroy the painting while the police investigation is under way. John Key does a doodle in public while on TV, he puts it on trademe and auctions it for charity and so far it has reached $20,000. Who is the better politician???
