Umm, it’s ignored because your inference that coal and gas ought to be averaged is just plain wrong. Such deposits depend on a combination of sedimentary rock-types and available biomass. Sedimentary rock types and vegetation types do not manifest a uniform distribution, hence no averaging in the crust would be predicted.

It may interest some readers to know that coal deposits (of significant size) are also found in the mountains of West Virginia. That would be one, very high low-point 🙂

Fwiw, Noah’s flood was abandoned under the weight of geological evidence two centuries ago. I see no reason to revisit a theory killed off so long ago.

New topic for a minute…

Ayn Rand groupies, such as the ZAP folk of Christchurch who pop up in these threads from time to time, shouldbe interested in the following review (link below) of the new biography of Ayn Rand (thanks Arts & Letters Daily for the pointer).

The reviewer of the biography is Anthony Daniels, who more frequently writes under the name Theodore Dalrymple. He gives an interesting analysis of Rand’s style and thought, placing her in the Russian polemicist tradition.

Briefly, it’s an article on climate hero James Hansen arrested while protesting at mountain TOP coal mining. Aside from hegating you theory above, the practice of such coal mining is environmentally disastrous in two ways:

1. The top is literally removed from the mountain to access the coal and can never be restored.

2. The coal, when burnt; releases CO2 into the atmosphere and is destined, if we burn much more of our coal resources, to plunge us into a world so changed as to presage the end of the human species.

For those who think this is alarming, you are right, it is. If you think it is alarmist, pejoratively, well, that’s just shooting the messenger.

Broadly speaking, it seems humans have been around for 60,000 years, give or take, but we only took off when we entered the Halocene period, which embodied the almost perfect climate for us to thrive. But it is only a blink of an eye in the historical time span of the planet (yes, a little more than 6 odd thousand years), and when it goes, so does most of us.

Kris, you really need to move on from tall tales. If you can’t, then understand that your God may well be lining up another, future species, for His attention. Perhaps He figures He will have better luck second time round.

Plenty of positives in the Black Caps, Ingram starts well, as does McKay, Broom proves himself. Hopefully they and the likes of Oram can measure up when the Aussies get here. I may take a walk to watch them play on Monday.

Perhaps DPF should have daily post called General Religious Debate and all the evangelists and anyone who wanted to pray for others could do it there.
Religious freaks who posted elsewhere could get 100 demerits for the first offense and crucifixion for any subsequent offenses. I suspect they would all commit two offenses just for the experience.

I think it would be a great idea but only if the 100 demerits applied to the non God bothers when they make comments or side swipes that start the whole threads off in the first place.

Pete you bring up the very point KrisK has already made before.
worldview is part of one prism and all those areas you mention are adressed by worldview whatever your religion (athiest, agnostic as well) or not.
To exclude it is what the non God bothers want to do as they don’t recognise their own views being shaped by their religious worldview too.

my point is it is all well to penalise God Botherers 100 demerits for mentioning their faith/God/position in light of that but you must penalise the non God botherers who incite, denigrate or condesend toward the faithful in sideswipes or more open slather too.
I suspect that that will get rid of more non God bothers then God botherers but then I might be biased ;-).

So by all means have two GD one GGD (god general debate) and one GD (just general debate) and lets see.
