Congratulations to David Garrett and ACT for the passing of the three strikes legislation, to steal a quote from a recent pollie “now our kids will be safe”.

And shame on Labour, the Greens and the Maori party, speaker after speaker stood up and told us how bad this bill will be for the criminal scum, mind you, at least we know now that Labour and the Greens are more concerned about criminals than they are about the victims.

“National’s grassroots supporters are joining a chorus of opposition as price rises caused by the Emissions Trading Scheme begin to kick in.
Prime Minister John Key confirmed there was an ETS protest vote at a party conference last weekend. “There certainly was a remit and they certainly did vote against wanting the ETS, they did vote to delay it.”
Agriculture Minister David Carter has sought to stem caucus concerns by emailing MPs to assure them that claims by ACT about the ETS were just “misinformation”.
ACT leader Rodney Hide said yesterday that the ETS, which begins on July 1, would eat up any gains from tax cuts for 550,000 households earning between $45,000 and $85,000 a year.
Last week’s Budget delivered tax cuts worth an average $25 a week once a hike in GST was taken into account. ACT’s claims are straining relations between the coalition allies, with Mr Key insisting that Mr Hide was wrong.
“The estimate I have is that the ETS will cost the average household about $3 a week and the tax cuts for someone on $50,000 – even if they consume the lot, net of GST, is about $14 or $15.”

PS : Einstein first predicted/theorized the existence of laser in a paper he published in 1916 and the technology was realized in the 1950s when Charles Townes built the first maser/laser. Townes won a nobel prize for his invention and if Einstein was still alive at the time when that Nobel Prize was awarded to Townes, there was no doubt then that he would have shared that Nobel Prize at the time.

@ Yvette – I’ve just blogged on this. The real dilemma now is who to vote for in 2011 if I decide that this is the circuit-breaker issue preventing me from supporting National. I will not vote for Labour; their ETS would have been far more punitive, and we will be living under the legacy of Cullen’s financial mismanagement for yesr to come. I am reluctant to vote for Act; it hardly projects an image of stability and coherent policy. After that, there’s precious little choice.

Perhaps when 1 July dawns, it may not be as bad as it is currently being painted, but I rather doubt it.

What Fark does to “First Posters”:

“First Post” time warp

For whatever reason message boards on sites like Fark are forever plagued with morons posting “First Post” anytime a link is posted. Fark automatically turns the words “first post” into the word “boobies” and resets the timestamp on the message to some time in the future so that it isn’t the first post anymore. Attempts to evade that sometimes result in it becoming “weeners” instead of “boobies”.

i have voted ACT! in the past, but then my hate of clarke & cullen and the rest of them grew so much, i voted national just to be sure of their demise.

when i first came home from aussie, my brother and i decided to join ACT!. he listed his profession (airline pilot) and on my sheet i listed unemployed or some such. i had only been home 2 days. anyway, we mailed off our applications at the same time. his membership came through the following week and mine never turned up!

to this day it makes me laugh. they didnt want my unemployed ass as a member hehe

But John Key and National can’t be trusted for all New Zealanders.
They need some one to keep them on track.
10-20% party vote to ACT will do that and negate the Maori party.

Shonkey is a lying prick. In the lead up to the election he stated that NZ wouldn’t move unless the Aussie’s did on an ETS scheme. He now claims we must honor any international agreement signed on our behalf (Kyoto), surely a man in his position would have known this well before he began campaigning. Why stand in front of the people and state something you knew you could never deliver, scumbag.

But personally I think Shonkey’s balls are been squeezed by international interests. This whole thing has the stench of the UN and the IMF Marxists attached to it. Pretty hard to tell them to fuck off when their hands are on the money tap. We are having the country sold out from underneath us and most of our politicians are either to thick to see this or welcome the New World Order with open arms.

Good on you for doing it. I sent a similar letter to the PM a few months ago. No reply received.

Unless I’m mistaken (and I would love to be proven wrong), Key is hellbent on implementing the ETS monstrosity.
Why? I don’t know / doubt he’s out to gain personally, so it shows Nick Smith’s nefarious influence on Key.

The Green Party fifth-columnist from Nelson deserves to be sacked.

The political price the National Party pays will be higher the closer we get to July 1.

New topic for a mo…

NZ immigration has been shonky, what with staff importing in-laws from the islands and various former politicians making money as migration consultants. But can it really be letting North Koreans settle in NZ? People from a maniac, rogue state that starves its citizens, and threatens its neighbours with nuclear weapons.

A letter in today’s Christchurch Press over the name “Moon Jo” alleges that claims the North Koreans torpedoed the South Korean warship are bogus South Korean propaganda.

Either our immigration policy is worse than rotten or the letter is under a false name that has not been picked up by the newspaper’s letters editor. The English could come from one of Christchurch’s fossil Marxists. For example:

“…is based on dubious circumstantial evidence…” and “…the inquiry has become the target of derision…”

There’s no “Moon Jo” in the Christchurch white pages, but then if a North Korean, he might have a Morse transmitter instead. If not, “Moon Jo” might be a transliteration from one of the fossil Marxist families.

– The Federal Housing Authority is trying to prop up the US housing market, failing to do so, and converting itself into the new Freddie/Fannie in the process.

– the DOW and other markets continue their steady decline as people realise that the Greek problem is not just about Greece anymore.

– North and South Korea have cut communications following the South’s finally fronting up and going public with the news that it was the North that torpedoed one of the ships and killed 46 sailors a month ago. F-22 Raptors have been deployed to Guam and Okinawa.

– The centre-left is finally starting to figure out – via the Gulf oil spill and the Sestak bribery business – that their fabulous administration may not actually be smart, competent, honest or transparent.

– Comments like …the United States has lost is influence in the Middle East… don’t help either.

Totally agree SGBTH, and I wish more people would vote for ACT. My poorly made point was that for votes for ACT will just strengthen John Key’s position.

Next year ACT should run a campaign addressing the people who wanted to vote ACT but voted National because they thought their ACT vote might be wasted. That logic is flawed and self-defeating.

They have the money and the power to hurt us.

There will be more unemployment, more personal and commercial bankruptcies, more foreclosures and more human misery.

And the corporate state, despite this suffering, will continue to plunge us deeper into debt to make war.

It will use fear to keep us passive.

We are being consumed from the inside out.

Our economy is as rotten as the economy in Greece.

We too borrow billions a day to stay afloat.

We too have staggering deficits, which can never be repaid.

Heed the dire rhetoric of European leaders.

Latta report shown to be all PC for Key

Investigate Magazine and Family First have revealed what many New Zealanders knew all along, that the Prime Minister’s promised review of the Anti-smacking laws was always going to be a white wash.

The court records revealed in the Investigate story this week show that good parents have been wrongly accused and prosecuted.

It also shows how the host of the ‘politically incorrect TV parenting program’ turns out to be as PC as anyone drawn into the halls of power in Wellington.

Kiwi Party leader Larry Baldock and organiser of the Anti-smacking referendum said Mr Latta’s handling of the facts of the cases and his failure to interview any of the affected parents and children was a very sad abuse of the trust many had placed in him. “He allowed himself to be used and manipulated by a Prime Minister that has already shown he has no regard for true democracy in many ways,” said Mr Baldock.

“The Prime Ministers handling of every major decision is always based upon the desire to govern and hold on to the power to continue to govern at any cost.

“This should come as no surprise, “since power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely” as Lord Acton once said. Our system of democracy allows far too much power to be in the hands of one person.

“Faced with the 87.4% ‘no vote’ in the anti-smacking referendum the PM should have submitted himself to the protections of true democracy rather than reinforcing his errant belief that he can do as he wills for his own political interests.

“The PM who said he would change the law if there was ever one good parent wrongly prosecuted must now keep that promise or loose any remaining credibility,” said the Kiwi Party leader.

She really is the gift that keeps on giving, I would have thought that by now the ever increasing female co leader and red Russ might have worked out that every time Delahunty opens her gob she costs them votes.

I imagine that Delahunty may well be given the Bradford treatment in the run up to the next election, for those with a short memory the Bradford treatment involves locking candidates who are a liability (in past elections it was always Bradford and sometimes Locke) in a shed somewhere and not letting them out until all votes had been cast lest they remind the public just what lunatics they are.

Charge puts family ‘through hell’

A Christchurch father was “furious” at being imprisoned and losing custody of his child after being charged with assaulting his son.

The father, whose name is suppressed, was given a discharge without conviction on Friday in a case that could have been a test of New Zealand’s anti-smacking laws.

The father was held in custody for at least one night and separated from his four-year-old boy for two weeks under bail conditions that were later relaxed by the court.

“He was furious originally because he was in prison for GBH [grievous bodily harm] and lost custody of his child and all because he was trying to calm a child,” defence counsel Jonathan Eaton said.

Police alleged the man slapped his son on the head in North Hagley Park in January, but Eaton said the father was trying to calm a major tantrum. The child has since been diagnosed with a severe behavioural problem.

“He was originally charged because a witness thought she had seen a slap on the head. The witness had no understanding of the problems of the child. It was only later that more details emerged that painted it in a very different light.”

He also said police were reluctant to withdraw charges in relation to the new anti-smacking laws.

“The police are acutely aware that if they lay the charges the case may well attract quite a bit of publicity, therefore they are obliged to look at it pretty carefully before they move on it,” Eaton said. “For them to turn around at that stage and withdraw seems to be a big ask for the police. They are more comfortable with a discharge. They go through the court process and don’t oppose the discharge. Why did they have to go through the entire process?”

Inspector Derek Erasmus said police acted appropriately.

“Based on what the witnesses said, our decision was totally appropriate at the time. We made sure we had appropriate evidence. There was plenty of evidence and witnesses at the time and I am entirely happy with that. There was no new evidence on what happened at the time,” he said.

Erasmus said he was happy with the outcome.

“We were happy with the outcome. Interventions with other agencies were put in place and the court decided that was appropriate.”

Family First national director Bob McCroskie said the family was “taken through hell” by the court case.

Time for Key to do what Key should instead of being a coward.
