The bomber of course turned out to be a Muslim and a registered Democrat. Could one ask for a better example of the left’s constant self induced detachment from truth and reality?

A new Arizona law allows any U.S. citizen 21 or older to carry concealed weapons without needing a permit from the state first. New Mexico is expected to follow Arizona´s lead.

Could it happen in New Zealand??

It needs to, as incident after incident demonstrates that crime in this country is out of hand and the authorities, deep in a morass of politically correct confusion and misdirection, are clueless in dealing with it.

What fun to be approaching the end of my eight decade and have voted for lowering the drink buying age below 18 🙂 Perhaps there should be restrictions on the mid year ites like 20 to 65yo’s, the so called sensible sober folk.

If I think it is Jack Reacher is to be believed, women carry short barreled 22’s in their bags which need to be used close-up to be effective. Thinking of going to Arizona later in the year .. I will be careful .. thanks for the warning RB.

BREWER: I mean the thing is is that and I get frustrated and there was part of me that was hoping this was not going to be anybody with ties to any kind of Islamic country because there are a lot of people who want to use this terrorist intent to justify writing off people who believe in a certain way or come from certain countries or whose skin color is a certain way. I mean they use it as justification for really outdated bigotry.
And so there was part of me was really hoping this would not be the case that here would be somebody who is not the defined. I mean he’s accused he’s arrested you know I don’t want to convict him before it’s time to do so. He’s the guy authorities say is involved. But that being said I mean we know even in recent history you have the Hutaree militia from Michigan who have plans to let’s face it create terror.
That’s what they were planning to do and they were doing so from far different backgrounds then what this guy is coming from. So, the threat is not just coming from people who decide that America is the place to be and you know come here and want to become citizens. Obviously this guy did.

That’s Contessa Brewer on MSNBC telling Stephanie Miller how unhappy she is that the latest NY bomber continues to share the – ahem – characteristics of the attackers of 9/11, Fort Hood and a host of other attacks, rather than those of Timothy McVeigh.

I rather liked Ed Morrissey’s comment on Brewer:

Yes, Contessa, there does seem to be a lot of people who want to “justify writing off people who believe in a certain way” as either terrorists or racists. Your network employs more than a few.

Maybe they should just hire Geraldo back from FOX – I read that he was in full McVeigh mode the other day. But of course there’s good bigotry and bad bigotry.

However I would point out that when we had compulsory cadet training our entire male population over the age of 13 was armed and we had the lowest incidence of armed offences.

Looks like the numbers are against your propsisiton.

How do you feel about our shit youth sucide rates btw? None of them use guns but they top themselves at a rate so applling our media are forbidden to to mention it.

one reasonI think we don’t have so many deaths by guns is that handguns aren’t available as they are Overseas and also in our licensing process self-defence (the only rationale for handguns) is not emphasised even considered a negative.

If we had the availability for handguns it would change here as not everyone is as safe as you and the other readers on Kiwiblog 🙂

You’ve got to admit that knowing women and shop keepers around you carry concealed handguns and are prepared to use them with the backing of society and the law is a deterrent.

America-with its traditions of individual liberty-cannot import Switzerland’s culture of social control. Teenagers, women, and almost everyone else have more freedom in America than in Switzerland.

In this article the author states that even though US and Israel have rocky moments the US is a friend and a protector of Israel by co=operating with Israel by putting some of its Radar & missles in the Negev.
What he doesn’t say is that the US is now looking at not protecting Israel from the bullshit at the UN in some cases and not vetoing the Mullahs and their friends.
Which begs the question how can the Israelis rely on the US for the safty of their citizens from a nuclear Iran?

I would rather people were encouraged to deal to offenders and be proactive in their self-defence than the present status quo whereby the NZPolice are the so called professionals and we should avoid getting involved and they “deal” to the people not the offender in their attitude.

Sure there will be injuries and even deaths but in the long run a populace enabled by law and society to not accept antisocial and criminal behaviour and uphold decent standard for safety is better than the present position.

Anyway, it’s probably a moot point, I don’t see our firearms laws changing much if at all in the foreseeable future.

Criminals don’t care about laws so they will get firearms if they want them.
We should do all we can to train and equip decent people to defend themselves and others and that means attitudes as well as practical and skillsets.

there is no need to own a handgun as in my mind it is for man to man work.
However hunting and target rifles are legitamate.
in 1997 a man in the deep south had had his ins cancelled from a few burglaries.
the alarm went off and he found 22 fellas inside the business.
he had his hunting rifle and frogmarched them to the cops.
the cops charged him with pointing a firearm.
that shows the NZpolice attitude today too.

Malcolm @ 9.45, I took murrays 9.05 comment to mean those of us who had the basic arms training in the school cadets had some cognisance of the potential to damage that even a .22 had, let alone the .303 rifle, lewis MG, Bren and the mortar . I was lucky enough to train with the Canty Armored regiment and got my bum on the firing seat of a 25 pounder and that gave me a significant insight to the comment, again I think it was Murray’ , that you carry a pistol in your pocket/bag but you tow a gun.
It always saddens me when the MSM confuse pistols, rifles and shotguns when it is only the rifle that is mostly a danger at anything outside close range, the other two must be within 50 meters to be consistantly lethal, whereas the shotty although damaging will not always be lethal and the pistol unless in the hand of a marksman will only be lucky to hit, particularly the more common small calibres whereas even in reasonably inexperienced hands any long rifle at up to 500 meters has a good chance to inflict serious damage especially with the appropriate bullet. A person I knew died from a .22 bullet in the head accidently, at a range of some 900 yds in sth Westland mid last century.
ps I only support the carrying of hand weapons by those personally approved by me. I think our arms rules are appropriate apart from the nonrecording of the actual weapons held and the transfer of same. Of course only the law abiding comply, and most weapon assaults will be with unregistered weapons in the hands of the unlicenced as the stupid dog laws are showing at every incident with dog attacks.

***Drink Driving PSA***

Did anyone see the ad on tv last night?

It was the usual don’t drink and drive ad, it was played in reverse.

What annoyed me was at the end of it it came up with the text “If you drink and drive you’re a bloody criminal.”

Last time I checked the law it was still legal to drink and drive. It is illegal to be over the limit.

So for tourists in NZ who see that ad will be misled into thinking they are not allowed a glass of wine.

Having a glass of wine and driving does not make anyone a criminal!

I hope others noticed it and will complain to the BSA for it being not only misleading but legally wrong

Get hold of ” Deer Hunting with Jesus” by Joe Bageant, who is a self declarled ” godless commie”. He writes this amazing essay regarding gun control in the US. Surprisingly, to me anyway, because he really is a far left socailist, he came out in favour of firearms.

It is the best writing on gun control I have ever read. Outstanding

You shoot them before they get to you when they run at you Repton. Attack prevented.

Seems like a low percentage strategy. You’ve got to spot them, be able to grab your gun quickly, and you’ve got to be sure they are running to attack you, and not (e.g.) running for a bus.

That’s why I emphasised “concealed”. I can see an argument for being openly armed as a crime deterrent. But the way you talk, it makes me think your main goal is to shoot people, and you’re hoping someone will give you an excuse.

For what it’s worth, I’m not a Christian but am constantly surprised by the amount of Christians in my wider circle of friends and family who are die-hard Labour voters. Oh those Christian-Left, what a conflicted bunch they are.

I think it is good that people are discussing these issues especially cops being armed in New Zealand (which I totally support) and just as important should be a recognition of a person’s right to protect his home and family.

This is a law that varies greatly around the world.

If a group of “people” break into your house with the obvious intention of raping your wife (and in some cases your kids) beating you to death and robbing whatever they can (especially from the drinks cabinet) then a person should be allowed to use a fire-arm to shoot them.

Shoot them in the guts and if they die why be charged with murder?

Why be charged with anything?

Just crazy.

MPs debated the member’s bill of Labour MP Darien Fenton this evening.

Her legislation was defeated 64 votes to 58 with National, ACT and United Future having the numbers over Labour, the Greens and the Maori Party.
