Bot wanted Add this story to Scoopit!.

Is there anyone out there that could put together some code for a very simple program that can scan a blog, and calculate for a period of time (say a month):

  1. Number of posts made
  2. Number of comments made
  3. Number of unique commenters (based on name of commenter)

If so, please let me know.

You should ask that chick Lynn at the Standard. Social skills of an alcoholic vagrant with leprosy who has just fouled themselves, but according to her one of the greatest computer programmers in the world.

Employ PhilU to do it. No bot required.

come now billy, even you can’t seriously put employ and philu next to each other in a sentence.

But I think David wants the work – you know – done?

    Just about pissed myself laughing.

Just wait for the fun and games over at the Standard, David Right Wing Farrar setting up a Botnet to spy on us is that why he got an OIA out on us.

Mentioning Lynne was a very bad idea. She will be over here spraying the text version of ketamine any moment.

I know just the person – a Green member! What’s the remuneration offered? I’m sure he will donate it to the Greens. I can be the guy who facilitates the deal (for a small fee, which I will also donate to the Greens).

That’s what capitalism is all about, isn’t it?

Guess you’re probably ready now to try Lynn at The Standard, DPF! !! Neither of us share his politics, but he is bloody good at writing code.

I’ve been working on something to do 1 and 2. Still quite rough though.

3 is a little more tricky, but could be done I guess.

Why not use a RSS feeder? That uses a reasonably standardized protocol that runs in most blog sites. There has to be one that pops stuff into a database. Then you’d just have to run some SQL queries.

It’d be a lot simpler than writing a crawler because you’d probably have to customize that for each site to interpret what it is seeing on the various sites.

I seem to remember from the logs that a RSS feeder was what Monteiths was using for their system.

[DPF: That's not a bad idea assuming the blogs all do RSS for comments as well as posts]

Are you sure this site needs another tracker? It already has Google Adsense, Google Analytics, NetRatings SiteCensus, SiteMeter, and WordPress Stats as behaviour trackers.

(All blockable of course, using FireFox w Ghostery addon. Put up another one and firefox users will block that, too.)

There you go, I knew Lynne would us the benefit of her superior programming/hacking skills.

Google have already done the deed … You are all being googled you know, your salacious little ramblings will be kept for the next 100 years in order to sell you a toothbrush with tongue bristles …. true no Cow waste at all.
