It is interesting that this post ran out to about 228 comments, and maybe without getting too far, but for facts like some Sikh had been previously permitted entry but refused now, and that a large Hindu membership may be a factor in the Sikh determination to gain entry.

The left often complain about how they are sometimes portrayed as monsters. Unfair they say. “We’re good guys with a different approach. That’s all. ”

Well just yesterday I read something that demonstrates so well why they are to many just evil contemptible stains upon the face of democracy and civilisation.

I’m no fan of Not PC. IMHO, the author has through dogmatism, bigotry and ignorance done much to damage the Libertarian brand in NZ, but yesterday there was a guest post by a Paul Van Dinther that was a refreshing change from the usual narcissistic rubbish. A classic post.

It deals with the insidious indoctrination of our children by the left. The perpetrators of this barbarity sit over at Red Alert and other places adopting a holier than thou stance, arrogantly deleting material that offends them, smugly standing in judgement. Posturing as an academic elite. When all the time they are collectively guilty of the despicable offence of molesting the minds of our children.

These are the people who squeal most loudly if a priest is found ot have sexually interfered with an alter boy, but in truth, their own position is not much different to that of the disgraced cleric. Standing before us as an example of purity while all the time committing unspeakable evil with our children.

I encourage all to read Mr. Van Dinther’s post and be horrified at what the left are doing. These people are intellectual cowards and lowlife.They cannot advance their cause in the confines of adult discourse. They cannot win a fair argument with mature people. So they feed their insidious evil to children, under the guise of “education”. They prey on the very young, the naive and innocent and gullible, and pervert their minds. Doing immense damage that often scars the victim’s political perspectives for their whole life.

Nothing is more indicative of the amoral desperate depravity of the power obsessed left than their attacks on the minds of our offspring. It has to be stopped, in the name of civility.

Trevor Mallard raises a commendable defence of Chris Carter over at Red Alert, but rails against the homophobia of commenters here and at Gotcha. When I helpfully tried to point out his own experiences with homophobia (as recorded in Hansard, and which I am sure he now regrets), with what I regarded as a moderate and carefully-worded post my comment was censored. Fortunately, I had saved it, and it appears in the link which follows, together with the relevant Hansard.

Trevor Mallard may be able to control public discourse on Red Alert, but his apparent hypocrisy on this issue needs to be exposed or explained.

If you add to that the population’s growing dependency on the state for welfare benefits, grants, and handouts, the picture is even bleaker.

Laws has had difficult times to go through with his family including attacks on it, so surely he should understand how this sort of thing can hurt. It’s hard to be fully sympathetic about the hassling he gets when he does similar from a much bigger pulpit.

Well one way I can think of is to not allow ourselves be intimidated into shying away from criticising the left in the strongest possible terms. Many people are fooled by the left’s campaign against “abuse” where they complain that discourse is uncivil. In reality this is a ploy to limit criticism of leftist political ideology by denying observers the right to classify it in real terms.

If I posted the above message on Red Alert it might stand for a millisecond before being deleted upon the grounds of abuse.

NZers are naturally reticent, but the scam of political correctness engineered by the left (and also pushed zealously in our school system) has made them verbal eunuchs.

You do not have the “right” to escape being offended. And especially when you are abusing the minds of children. NZers are too quiet. The left are committing evil all over the globe and getting away with it because people are broadly reluctant to confront them. Yet nothing is ever said about the gross offensiveness of this evil.

There are times that fall upon us and cause damage to our civilisation, and this is one of those times. The scam whereby the left are excused their evil on the basis that calling them what they really are is “offensive” to them. Offensive is a much abused word. A bit of colloquial language is nothing compared to what the left are perpetrating, always under cover and out of the spotlight.

We have to get a lot more angry, and express that anger freely. If you’ve got a child at Avondale College, write to them and tell them what you really think of their despicable and disgraceful actions. Don’t ever hold back when criticising the left. It only encourages them.

I thought Mallard’s post was hilarious. (I wonder if Johnboy managed to see it before putting out his eyes.)

So much commentary around, both in media and on blog posts, that seems to show that the majority against Carter are railing against not only his excessiveness but also that he fails to understand that what did was wrong. It was wrong in fact and it was worng in the eyes of those who matter – the voting public.

And then Mallard goes and commits the same ‘crime’ in his defence of Carter….

He states that he too misread public perception and feeling around school closure plans and that was a both a mistake and therefore a source of learning for him personally. He then goes on to show he learned nothing and still believes himself to be right and unfallible as he points out that what he was trying to was provide better education for the nation’s children while the public thought that saving the jobs of a few principals was more important.

That sanctimonious hypocritical bollocks is what put him and his colleagues onto the back benches. Its what is keeping the Carter story and Ministerial spending in the news. Hopefully, it is what will keep them in opposition for years to come.

The hilarity was compounded by the sycophantic acceptance by the party faithul in their responses to him.

Good to see some reasonably reasoned and reasonable posts RB.

There is a problem labeling most people as “the left” and then saying “the left” is evil. Offending people may have feel good factor for some but it usually hinders making any progress on the issue. It tends to entrench both sides in their opposite corners and it’s difficult to get anywhere from there, as the MCC have discovered.

How do you try and influence the curriculum? Are most people happy with it generally or are they angry?

Question re: school cirriculums.

When have they ever been anything less than very liberal?

Bearing mind teachers come through teachers college where they are instructed by generally liberal tutors then into schools where thye are surrounded by immature minds who at the 3rd and 4th form level wont disagree or query too much.

I don’t worry about what the kids hear at school so much as long as their comprehension skills are up to it. They are only there for a 6 hours a day. The rest of the time they are ours.

A good balanced home view should show up deficencies in there classes . Any way teach them healthy humourous scepticisim at home . We sell the kids too short alot of the time, they don’t believe everything they hear.

I bring up my kids for better or worse not school teachers

Phil – I agree with you on the last bit (that’s got to be a first!) about Mallard trying to sanitise his reputation, but a leadership tilt? Gimme me a break!! Mallard has supped at the public trough since 1984. He’s hardly the future face of Labour. And the power base of the Labour caucus (including the NYC sub-branch) would never let it happen; Mallard is electoral poison.

Poor ole Trev has admitted to me he just didnt get the Carter et al connection to governance. First he part deleted a post where I clearly pointed out this was the hanging offence not the other side shows. And then he published my seconf post where I again pointed out to him the governance aspect and the connection to behaviour morals and ethics.

Its so sad when even polictians cant/wont get to grips with good governance and that that is what they are elected to do.

Really sums up the parlace state of why we are in the shitter.

DPF, did an good interview with Susan Woods and Labour apologist, John Pagini. Unfortunately Pagini was economical with the truth in regard Phil Heatley’s expenses. He falsely claimed that Heatley put down wine as something else. Heatley, put 2 bottles of wine down as food and beverage instead of wine on its own. That is big difference than putting wine down as something totally different as Pagini inplied.

The spin he was trying to put out was that Brown and the Labour MPs made honest mistakes but Heatley was dishonest.

Why is that the left not only are the worse ones when it comes to troughing but also the most economical with the truth.

Although I have not read the case, I have to confess that I do not have a lot of sympathy for people who may be caught by the decision. It has been generally accepted that any transaction that artificially alters the incidence of tax is liable to be challenged. My understanding is that in this case, the salary of an orthopaedic surgeon went from $650,000 per annum to $150,000 once he became employed by the trust and that the surplus was held as either trustee income or distributed to other beneficiaries. What possible commercial justification can there be for this other than tax avoidance? Any transaction between a trust and an individual must be at current market value. There can be some justification for a person employed by a trust to be paid less than may previously have been the case but my first thought is that this can happen only on the basis that the trust now carries the risk. In the case of a surgeon, there is minimal risk because there is no personal injury liability. If there is a consistent revenue stream, and has been for many years, it would be difficult for the trust to argue that it has assumed the risk of the vicissitudes of business. There may well however be some business advisers frantically telephoning their insurance brokers.

I mean, the name Mohammad is the world’s most popular name… so there are 100’s of millions of Mohammad’s running around, being photographed, having cartoons drawn of them, statues made, wax figures etc. So why all the fuss?

On a lightly different tangent krazykiwi – depictions of revered figures can be fascinating. I’ve just seen a progression of interpretations of how different people and centuries have seen JC, via church frescos and mosaics from Ravenna to Rome, and via a history of art at the Uffizi Gallery. The fact is no one has any idea what he looked like, more what they like to think he would have been like. But does it really matter?

If you ask any Muslim I can safely bet he/she wouldn’t know the reasons why. The so-called “religion of peace” at work:

@Nomestradamus: If the boy’s not been raised on meat or dairy, it wouldn’t be a necessity. Even if raised on meat, it’s not a necessity. You can have a healthy diet without those things. It’s just often more difficult and because of the restricted choice, possibly less fun. Of course, working within such constraints could potentially lead to some inspirational and interesting food being made. I have an inkling you can actually get vegan dog food, although I would think it wouldn’t be as good for dogs given the likely current evolutionary state of having a body primarily geared to process meat.

All that said, I’m not sure how I’d cope without fish, chicken and a little red meat every now and again. Also dairy.

I agree if you’ve been raised to go without something you won’t have a natural craving for it. But surely vegan dog food, if there’s indeed such a thing, needs to be sufficiently wholesome so that the dogs are “full of beans” (yes, pun intended!) so to speak? With that in mind, what’s an example of a vegan meal that gives humans and dogs the energy to stay active?

Yeah, I’m not sure about the dogs and did express concern and I’m not a vegan myself, so it’s hard for me to say. I’ve been informed, however, that there’s a goodly number of Muay Thai Kickboxers who are vegan, and Scott Jurek, an ultramarathon runner I know of, manages to get enough calories in his day to compete and be one of the best in the world (5000 to 8000 in a day). So it can be done.

Ideally, one would want to do it without supplements, so I’d think minimally processed “whole” foods (brown rice over whice rice, for example), lots of vegetables, and lots of (non-animal) fats. The human body as far as I’m aware is primarily geared towards processing protein and fats as its energy sources, so nuts, tofu, avocado, vegetable oils. Fucked if I know what else. Minimal processed carbs.

Although, that said, as the kickboxers and ultramarathon runners are very active people requiring a lot of stamina, the vegan diet would probably have a higher proportion of carbohydrates than others might. So the caveat to the above would be the healthy diet would depend upon the type of activity one undertakes.

Solid Energy chairman John Palmer is calling for New Zealand’s largest coal miner to be floated, predicting the market should value it at $2.5 billion.

Mr Palmer, who is also the chairman of Air New Zealand, appealed for a debate on the future of the country’s state-owned enterprises, claiming a part sale of key assets would allow the Government to increase the value of its investment without having to inject further capital.

“This can be, with the right management and access to capital, one of New Zealand’s most important companies. It should be. In its current form I don’t think it can be.”

Speaking at the annual general meeting of stock exchange operator NZX in Wellington, Mr Palmer said companies like Solid Energy and other major infrastructure owners such as electricity generators should be considered for a partial sale, with the Government maintaining a controlling stake.

But Energy Minister Gerry Brownlee told an electricity conference in Christchurch yesterday that Mr Palmer’s comments were “out of line” and that the National-led Government would not consider selling assets in its first term.

“Mr Palmer is not an elected official, he’s an appointed chairman and if he wants to go making those sort of announcements on behalf of the Government he should stand and get himself elected to Parliament.” While Mr Palmer stressed that the views he was expressing were personal, the issue needed to be debated because of the company’s investment plans which would require outside investment. Over the next decade Solid Energy needed at least $5 billion for new projects, Mr Palmer said, an investment which it would not make sense for the government to make.

Australia’s Bathurst eager to develop Westport coal mine

Australian mining company Bathurst Resources intends listing on the NZX this year as part of a US$60 million ($86 million) plan to develop an opencast coal mine near Westport.
