Now I know I’m probably not the greatest accountant in the world but this piece of bullshit deserves all the criticism it gets.
Apparently a prison brings economic benefits. Well it may well increase the GDP and may well inflate Govt. spending and it may well add money the local micro economy but the fact we need another prison clearly tells us we are failing in our responsibilities to the citizens in this nation in that we apparently cannot grow crime free people.
I’ll accept that there will always be some and always be those who transgress foolishly but it really is time we thought out why we have such a high criminal rate in this country.
Why should we be doomed to this increasing rate of crime and the community consequences?

A new prison to be built in South Auckland will bring $1.2 billion in economic benefits over 30 years, Corrections Minister Judith Collins says.
