Now here is the good news. Major banks confirm that the National Govts. are bad for property ownership.

House prices are down 3 per cent on levels in 2007 and are set to fall further, according to a Westpac Bank report.

House prices are forecast to fall 2 per cent this year and next, hit by rising interest rates, coming income tax cuts and slowing population growth, Westpac said.

House prices have come down from “grossly overvalued” levels in 2007 to “slightly” overvalued, according to Westpac’s estimates, with an inflation adjusted or “real” drop of 12 per cent in house prices.

There was a 50 per cent slump in inflation-adjusted house prices in the 1970s, with smaller real falls in the early and late 1990s.

Each of those 3 down periods were the responsibility of National Govts.

Home brewer, 80, sold alcohol to police

An 80-year-old man who made home-brew whisky and bourbon in his garage has been targeted in a police sting.

Edwin Wilson appeared in Hastings District Court this week, entering no plea to seven charges relating to selling liquor without a licence. He allegedly sold bottles of spirits to an undercover policewoman in April.

His Hastings garage has been stripped of alcohol-producing paraphernalia and his house searched.

Mr Wilson said he made whisky and bourbon for himself.

What are they going to do. Put him in jail. and anyway who cares that the breweries and the state don’t collect the money.
Nail the scumbags trhat stole his booze and the scmbags that threatened him.

Education Minister Anne Tolley yesterday told hundreds of principals to be quiet, go back to school and do as they’re told, and that national standards were staying.

Now stuff me. I thought that kind of language was the preserve of school teachers. In fact I know it has been for the last 55 years. Where did National Get this woman?

New topic for a mo…

In today’s Christchurch Press, John Hartevelt writes that about 100,000 additional Asians will join the NZ population every five years over the next two decades – that’s an additional 400,000. Good on Hartevelt and the Press for discussing a subject which usually seems tabu.

Our population trend is fine if that’s what NZ voters want, but I don’t recall them ever being consulted. I like Chinese. They are generally hard working, ambitious, law abiding and family oriented. But that’s not the point. The changing population make-up raises questions on who decides such important issues.

1. Why is National so bent on ethnically re-engineering NZ? (Labour follows the same policy of course.) The immigration industry led by former politicians was founded under National. National recently lowered the bar for business-migration entry so that probably now 200 million middle-class citizens of China could meet it comfortably.

2. Are National (and Labour MPs) hypnotised because China is the new economic super power? And is it really? For millennia it was the world’s biggest economy, which didn’t stop Genghis’s horsemen and the Manchu later from galloping in to take over. And we heard the same hype a decade or two ago about Japan, which has now stalled.

3. As India climbs to power will our ethnic policy then be to swing towards that subcontinent? Brazil and Russia are also part of the surging BRIC nations. Can we look forward to surges of Brazilians and Russians?

4. Does National’s China love stem from the repeated assertion that NZ is part of Asia geographically? Yet Beijing is closer to Paris than it is to Auckland, and Shanghai is closer to California than it is to NZ. Tokyo-London flights are shorter than Tokyo-Auckland flights.

5. Does centrist politicians’ sucking up to China and Asian generally open the way for Laws (or similar) to roar into Parliament as a new Right wing party?

6. Above all, why haven’t the ethnic changes been put before voters over the last decade or two? Do the successive Beehive swarms think we are too bigoted, too thick, and too irrational to decide our national future? Or are they scared we wouldn’t agree with their ethnic plans?

Meanwhile, Bro. Key leaves today for a 10-day visit to China (plus Korea and Vietnam).

Good to see the Football World Cup getting real with two excellent games overnight. The Ghana v Uruguay game in particular was brilliant. The drama at the end was heart stopping!!
For those non football fans who took an interest because of NZ’s courageous efforts, now you got to see the real “beautiful” game. The NZ games were soccer at the bottom end of the scale, a bit like the dour old days of rugby with 3-3 draws not being unusual.
Now the world cup is interesting!!

Not sure if this has affected any workers here. This moronic bill has certainly affected me since it was introduced. Workers doing shifts of 5 or more hours have to take an unpaid 30minute break, so people who were working a 5 hour shift when the law came into effect either had to work 30 minutes a day more, or take in effect, a 10% pay cut. Some employees at my work had to choose the latter, as they were working a 9-2 shift to drop off and collect kids from school.

More short sighted government bullshit, more stupid regulations, more nanny state. Thankfully National look like they are to make it more flexible. And what does that champion of the workers, smackhead Fenton have to say?

Labour MP Darien Fenton argued existing legislation adequately addressed flexibility issues, and also took into account health and safety issues, which risked being compromised if there were changes.

Tell that to the hard working solo mums out there who are getting a 10% paycut, you fucking idiot.

The referenced article is focused on sites in the US, but Kiwiblog readers know that same thing happens here in NZ. If you harbor the suspicion that a lot of voters are not bright enough to understand the issues, the candidates, or anything about those who hold public office, you are right.

Considering the critical issues affecting the security, economy, and the future of the nation, it is clear that we are being ruled by a cabal in Congress who vote the Democrat Party line without regard for anything other than political self-interest.

They got there, however, because of a solid core of voters who consistently demonstrate what dim bulbs they are.

Assuming some of these morons read the newspaper or got their news from the Internet sites of what is called the mainstream media, a 2004 Pew Research Center poll found that five times more journalists described themselves as politically “liberal” than those who said they were conservative.

That same year, a poll by the University of Connecticut found that journalists backed John Kerry over George W. Bush by a margin of two-to-one. Not much has changed since, except that daily newspapers keep going out of business; more than 120 dailies shut down in 2009.

Journalists keep asking themselves why???

Perhaps slobbering over Barack Obama and getting him elected might have contributed to a general sense of dissatisfaction among people whose I.Q. is higher than room temperature.

By any definition other than actual physical extermination, the cap fits, I’m afraid, FE.

And for all those here who advocate that Palestinians should move to other Arab states, that also fits one of the definitions of genocide – destroying the ethnicity of a group.

Even the current siege of Gaza by Israel fulfills a requirement of the definition of genocide.

It’s hard to believe that a group that survived genocide is visiting the same on another group, but the facts are that this is, in fact, the case.

There were 82 houses in Najd. Children went to school in Simsim, two kilometers away. According to Palestine Remembered the village has been completely “defaced.”

In 1596 Najd’s population was 215.

In 1838, Edward Robinson, an American biblical scholar “observed the villagers winnowing barley by throwing it into the air against the wind with wooden forks” [Robinson (1841) III: 260 as quoted in Khalidi 128].

Najd’s villagers were mainly farmers and engaged in animal husbandry. “Fields of grain and fruit trees surrounded Najd on all sides.”

Najd is fourteen kilometers from Gaza. Palestinian Arabs own 12,669 dunums in Najd although Israel refuses to honor their rights to their personal property, and refuses them their inalienable right to return home. In 1945 Jews owned 495 dunums of land in Najd and public lands consisted of 412 dunums.

Najd is one of 418 ethnically cleansed villages by Zionist Jews.

And as far as the terror faced by the children of Sderot from the rockets, look at the results of Israel’s brutality on Arab children here (scroll down the page).

The simple fact is that both sides in this conflict are guilty of brutality, but the root cause of the conflict remains the forced dispossession of Palestinians from their ancestral lands by European colonisers – the Ashkenazi Jews who still dominate the political landscape of the land formerly known as Palestine.

Behind their wicked smears, which have left Pauline and Nick Koupparis feeling ‘harangued and besieged’, is the mentality of the lynch mob.

And their wild theories are as bizarre as they are offensive.

Some have said the family dog attacked the children and that Mr and Mrs Koupparis covered it up so the animal would not have to be put down.

The couple do not have a dog.

Others claimed the family used the case as propaganda to bring back fox hunting. The couple have no links to hunting.

Most offensively of all, some claimed on internet chat forums that the children were the victims of abuse, not an urban fox.

Then there were those who objected to the backlash against urban foxes which the story generated.

One veiled threat reads: ‘Save a fox, kill a baby.’ Apparently, it was a sick joke, alluding to the fact a number of foxes in the neighbourhood were trapped and put down in the wake of the attack on the Koupparis girls.

The implication being that the life of a fox is worth as much or more than that of a child to these fanatics.

The venomous posting resulted in the family being given police protection.

Ah, the Prog mind. The word ‘vermin’ doesn’t really cover it, does it?

And your characterisation of Palestinian farmers as lazy confirms how racism informs your view.

Absentee landownership was an entirely accepted practice in Palestine, and the tenant farmers were traditionally left in place when ownership changed. Except when the European jews bought the land. That land was sold to Jews is not in dispute, but to claim it was any more than around 98% by 1948 is simply false – I can’t recall the exact figure offhand but I think you will find it was more like 10%.

I do not believe, as you suggest, that all Israelis are evil. I would certainly apply that term to the current ruling elite, but generally I think non-Arab Israelis are as much victims of events as are Palestinians.

I suggest you do some research on http://www.palestineremembered.com that goes into some detail the population makeup and land ownership of Palestinian towns and villages in 1948, and when it was taken over by the Zionists.

the mass murder you refer to is a direct result of initial colonisation, and one of the tragic results of decolonisation is often internal warfare, especially between the collaborators and the “others” who were excluded during the colonisation period.

In Iraq, it’s the Sunnis who were the collaborators, and who oppressed the majority Shias. The Sunnis were targeted when the Shias were freed from oppression.

Similar situation in Sri Lanka, where the Tamils have paid the ultimate price for collaboration with the British in the ongoing savage, almost genocidal repression.

As Ghandi said to the British, “What happens after you leave is none of your business. Just pack up and go.”
