As a public service Add this story to Scoopit!.

A reader sent me in this cache of Chris Carter’s website. Chris managed to drag himself off his sickbed to delete the post, but that doesn’t work so well on the Internet.

He argues very well, for somone so unwell.

Haven’t we seen from WhaleOil that somebody who is mentally unwell can, in fact, be capable of pretty sound argument on the internet?

Chris Carter’s actions aside, it has been wholly disappointing to see people from the Government side of the House dismiss the possibility of Carter being mentally unwell so quickly. The Government was winning this one without having to do *anything* – to get involved in the mudslinging and to perpetuate a devastatingly harmful stereotype – that simply because someone does not look unwell, they must not be unwell – about mental illness is quite disgusting. To see it repeated here, even moreso. Mental illness is not something to be laughed at, it is something that is debilitating but that can be overcome.

    Shame on you, DPF.

{dpf; Shame on you for falling for it. You see the point you overlook is that not once has Chris himself claimed to be unwell. A lawyer has asserted he is unwell and needs leave. Chris has been careful not to. In fact Chris has gone out of his way to claim he is fine. Whale admits he is unwell, has many doctors notes to prove it, and is also on medication.]

  2. Pete George (12,296) Says:

Don’t be so sarcastic. That post was last week (Friday), when he seemed to be well – he wasn’t on sick leave. This week is his first sick week.

  3. Redbaiter (13,197) Says:

Ain’t it funny. Sick, but apparently well enough to use the internet to continue his retaliatory attacks on Goff. Where is that Doctor’s Certificate?

  4. PaulL (4,409) Says:

I’m a little concerned at him attending a conference that is fully paid for by the Chinese government. Why would they pay for him to do such a thing – what do they expect in return? Should this show as a donation by the Chinese government to the Labour Party? Would we be concerned by that?

  5. Redbaiter (13,197) Says:

Ain’t it funny too how all these liberals like Carter advocate that they stand for human rights, when at the drop of a hat, he’s ready to accept money and/ or gifts from the Chinese Communist Generals who are one of the most abusive anti-human regimes in the world. Sickening hypocritical poseurs.

  6. Put it away (2,304) Says:

I think the New Zealand taxpayer ought to be concerned that he is trying to secretly take a trip paid for by the Chinese taxpayer, and wonder what they are expecting to get in return.

Speaking for myself – and ignoring certain deliberate omissions in Carter’s argument – I always found my critical analysis tend to come to the fore when I’m deeply unhappy.

  8. Redbaiter (13,197) Says:

“That post was last week (Friday)”

Oh, so he only got sick over last weekend. Wow. I guess that’s OK then.

  9. tankyman (120) Says:

@ Pete George – The post was made as you said last Friday – but it was deleted once he was on sick leave.

  10. Nefarious (533) Says:

Has it been implicitly stated anywhere that Carter’s “sick” leave is in fact for a mental illness?

Or has that been deduced by the timing, accusations and lack of medical evidence?

  11. Pete George (12,296) Says:

Mr Little said Mr Carter had “sought some medical assistance, he has been diagnosed as suffering severe consequences of stress and that necessitates some time off”.

But Mr Little is not Carter’s doctor lawyer.

  12. tankyman (120) Says:

@ Nefarious – I think it was deduced by the fact he was a member of labour.

But Mallard Goff etc have all linked it to stress over the expenses and travel.

  13. Auberon (634) Says:

    T-shirt

    Front: Phil Goff’s a nice guy…

Back: but he just can’t win.

  14. BeaB (1,110) Says:

I hope that tuatara is safe from that other old fossil.

  15. burt (5,423) Says:

Did he declare the gift from the Chinese Govt?

  16. lastmanstanding (683) Says:

Well I have it good authority that while Chris was at the conference the Chinese drugged his drink and inserted a microchip that was programmed to make him attack Phil.

Dont tell anyone but the Chinese are doing this to selected MPs as part of their covert ops to infiltrate our government.

So over coming months expect to see more of the same.

  17. Poliwatch (318) Says:

So we have learnt two things this week
    1. When the House is not in session an MP can bugger off and do what ever he likes and;
    2. When the House is in session the contribution of an MP is only worth $10 a day

Or is that just confirming what we already knew?

  18. Pete George (12,296) Says:

lastmanstanding, are you trying to suggest they have Noo Lee Da lined up?

  19. Maggie (656) Says:

Right. So if you are sick you shouldn’t be able to use the internet.

Gee you people talk some codswallop.

  20. Guy Fawkes (702) Says:

There is no such thing as a free Lunch!

    Everyone knows that.

Where is the statement from his superiors endorsing it as a suitable trip?

Carter just immerses himself, the Labour Party and the Parliamentary system further into disrepute.

    And they expect respect?

    Un-bloody believe-able.

  21. Murray (8,731) Says:

“I doubt the New Zealand taxpayer would as well.”

WRONG, you don’t speak for me princess, you’re a tougher to the point of being a thieving bastard stealing from the poor to masage the rich. Resign and dissapear into obscurity.

  22. Guy Fawkes (702) Says:

“tougher”, LOL has he gotten all Butch!!

  23. RRM (4,107) Says:

WRONG, you don’t speak for me princess, you’re a [trougher] to the point of being a thieving bastard stealing from the poor to masage the rich. Resign and [disappear] into obscurity.

LOL, look at you Catapult, you’re so big and tough. You sure taught him a thing or two.

  24. BeaB (1,110) Says:

Just let the soap opera go on forever. If this is Helen Clark’s favourite what does it say about her others? The longer Carter hangs round the worse poor Phil looks and we can see how much better off we are with John Key and the Nats.
And, cla, spare us the sanctimonious claptrap about mental illness. This man is crazy like a fox.

  25. Rodders (1,452) Says:

There is one thing that Chris Carter has in his favour, though. He is not a member of the Harawira family.

  26. Muzza M (186) Says:

Hey Rodders if there was a free trip in it he/her would be but unfortunately they wouldn’t have him/her, not sufficient Maori in his/her genes.

  27. Yvette (1,608) Says:

Yesterday Goff was saying Carter is no longer his concern because he is no longer in the Labour Caucus. But as someone pointed out, Carter is still included in, until they officially include him out, by the appropriate person informing the Speaker of this in writing.

However, it is interesting that, as far as I can see, nowhere in Carter’s current website is the word Labour used.

  28. Inky_the_Red (535) Says:

So I take it that you are impying that him blogging indicates he is well.

Is this a criteria to use for Whateoil as well?

  29. RightNow (3,913) Says:

Inky, do YOU think Whaleoil is sane?

  30. expat (3,684) Says:

How low can Labour go in the polls thanks to Carter and the idiot management who have failed to deal with him?

Seems like the Leader isn’t the only one that needs to f*** off, a fair number of the deadwood in the caucus and party need to as well.

  31. Inky_the_Red (535) Says:

No, but neither do I think Carter is

  32. RightNow (3,913) Says:

I’m with you on that one. I believe it is a private matter but would expect him to be getting professional help.

  33. Guy Fawkes (702) Says:

Could it be expected that Carters airpoints collection could be repatriated, and forcibly given to good causes, even Gay causes.

  34. gravedodger (1,033) Says:

There is no such thing as a free lunch. Wadya mene.
Free pre school, free medical visits, free educashun, free public transport, porn, spas, 5 star hotels , free seat up the pionty end of the plane, free internal travel, free taxis and limmos, free night out to support a rising singer.
All that matters is to have the right chair when the bloody music stops and the rest of us ensure the free life style can just go on and on until, was it Mrs Thatcher who said, ” there is no one left to pay for all that freedom”.

  35. cla (18) Says:

DPF – I did say “possibility of being mentally unwell” – regardless if Carter is or isn’t suffering from mental illness, for the leader of the country – and for ANYBODY – to make the assertion that somebody is definitely not suffering because they don’t look like they are suffering is damaging and harmful to those that are.

  36. Doug (342) Says:

If Chris Carter is mentally unwell why is Phil Goff putting so much pressure on Carter to resign? I thought that would be the last thing you would do to someone with a mental problem.

  37. burt (5,423) Says:

    Doug

Ethical work place practices be dammed. This is the Labour party. Deny, Delay, Denigrate. Clark & co did it against all who leveled any allegations of wrong doing against them. The ref made a bad call, “No”… The fruit never rolls far from the tree. Goff is just playing the party script, either that or he is indeed a heartless bastard and not the type of person I want running the country, setting employment laws. Goff’s well on track to becoming another Labour leader surrounded by yes men with no successor in the wings if he stays much longer. The chickens are coming home to roost after Clark’s rein of senior party mediocrity.

  38. Fox (65) Says:

“He argues very well, for somone so unwell.”

The same can be said about Whaleoil, can’t it?

So DPF; are you now going to testify on behalf of Whale’s insurance company that he isn’t unwell after all?

  39. barry (685) Says:

Whats up with all these comments about “is Carter (mentally) unwell”

Considering the way that he has reacted to questions about his travel expenses and the way he tried to organise a coup, then there is absolutely no doubt that his compass has been demagnetized. Hes as loopy as the worlds biggest loop-de-loop roller coaster.
