Faafoi confirms Mana nomination
August 25th, 2010 at 12:00 pm by David FarrarNZPA report:
Labour chief press secretary and former ONE News reporter Kris Faafoi has confirmed he will stand for selection for the Mana seat north of Wellington.
Faafoi said he would immediately quit his role if selected – nominations close on September 9 with selection on the 18th.
Kris is the favourite to win the nomination, and become the MP for Mana. He’s a nice guy, who will not alienate anyone.
Danyl M make the point:
On the other hand, it seems like an awful lot of Labour’s new intake are professional political operatives who became MPs after working as staffers in the leaders office. When you’re trying to be a broad, community based social democratic party representing a wide variety of New Zealanders I think you need to cast the net a little wider than the end of the hallway when you’re looking for new talent.
A fair point.
The selection is not a dead cert. As I have said before, I think Josie Pagani i very talented, and she could well gain grassroots support. But where head office has such a powerful say, it is hard to see them turning down the Leader’s chief press secretary.
If Kris gets selected, it will be interesting to see who replaces him in his press secretary role.

Another thing in Kris Faafoi’s favour – annoying Brian Connell.

Another example of a former TVNZ “journalist” and his unbiased reporting of political matters.

Oh happy happy joy joy!!!… So we can expect him to be another token pollywannacracka smiling inanely for the assembled mass of whitepower brokers ?
I don’t think we need another nice guy who won’t alienate anyone. I think Pasifika needs its own Hone Harawira. Someone who will alienate those who need to be and can be a right mongrel prick if need be.

Hrm, not sure that a PI version of Harawira going around calling people white motherfuckers would do anyone any good. :-/
But I think Kris will have some job ahead of him to prove he isn’t a lightweight. I’ve seen him MC Super 14 fixtures a few times, never heard him speak on his vision for the future of the nation. I hope he has one.

Picking Faafoi would mean Labuor only has 5 Women MPs with electorates… and only Nanaia Mahuta would be north of Miramar. So the Women’s faction may well fall behind Pagani. She is also seen as being more to the left which could swing the union faction behind her as well.

“He’s a nice guy, who will not alienate anyone.”
OMG how condescending is THAT?! After all, we can’t have a brown brother who doesn’t know his place, can we.

Wonderful put down DPF. Nice way of saying the poor sod Faafoi is an inoffensive, harmless individual of little consequence.
You’re on your way to become a diplomat.
[DPF: My intention was not to put him down. I don't actually know Kris's political skills. He might well prove to be a natural. I was being genuine in saying he is a nice guy]

Love the way every time someone mentions Mana, the word “Pacifica” springs to mind. The electorate profile shows roughly 20% of the population is Pacific, with a “Pakeha/Palangi/Papa-a” population pushing 65%.
Vote:Also contrary to popular belief this is not a crime-ridden, benefit-dependent electorate…and the Kapiti Coast has some say in the matter as well. I look forward to contesting the seat!

Oh i don’t know. It’d do me some good seeing a brownie other than Hone calling it like they see it.
At least we know where and what Hone stands for even if we don’t agree with him and we know the mandate his electorate gave him, one he stood for and by in getting elected. What do we know about F’aafoi ?
Shit, if we’re gonna have some unalienating, nice guy sports commentator who’ll constantly toe the party line repping for us Pasifikans, then we may as well have a trained monkey in a suit for all the good it’ll do.
BTW i asked over at the Standard what Winnie Labans greatest achievements were in a decade of politics and got directed to the stone wall of silence.
I’ve had it with self serving silent and invisible token Pasifikan MP’s acting as nothing more than window dressing for photo ops when the powers that be want to get down with the brown.
On that note i hope Inga and Michael Jones stop fronting for smile and wave on his ghetto walkabouts.

Does anyone know where Faafoi currently lives? What’s the bet it’s Wellington Central.

Would be nice to think some of the new candidates could be described as ‘deep thinkers’, as I look around parliament I see less and less in this category and more who struggle with the basic concepts of thinking.

To V-It would be equally nice to think that you would take time out to meet with candiates such as myself before you make sweeping statements about our thinkng ability. Thinking candidates can only get in and make a difference if thinking voters would take time out to vote for them.
