Goff on MPs with second jobs
August 11th, 2010 at 7:23 am by David FarrarThe Herald reports:
Mr Goff expected the byelection to be close.
He said Ms Laban’s new job was not something she could have delayed until the next election, nor could she have done it at the same time as being an MP.
So Phil Goff is saying that one can’t take up an academic appointment and be an MP, but his party is fully backing Jim Anderton in his desire to be a Mayor, an MP and a party leader?

The Press frontpage headline was good.
“Unlike Anderton, MP quits to take new job”

Leopards never change their spots and no matter what anyone says Anderton is so arrogant that he will never take any notice of anything that is said.
Vote:The Speaker needs to change Parliaments rules and simply say that if you have another full time job the is paid for with a full time salary. fuck off.

The wonderful world of politicians, ranging from Littlism – only a little effort is required for each concurrent job – to Palinsyndrome – bailing out part way through a contract.

Obviously Winnie Laban is a one-hat woman! But will Andrew Three-Hats smell an opportunity?

There does seem to be a quantity of MP’s looking to desert the sinkking SS Labour though. Clearly the prospect of a second term in opposition doesn’t appeal to those who believe Chris Carter …

The matter of ‘hats’ was really in the hands of Victoria University. An employer is hardly likely to agree to an employee holding another full time position concurrently, but noting this does not apply to elective offies such as mayors, etc.
There can be horrid interest conflicts where a MP of the party in power wants to take up a position in a government funded organisation, since the organisation may not want to get up the nose of the responsible minister.

Anderton should be pensioned off for good. Unfortunately, this veteran consumate trougher will die sucking from the state tit.

Here we go again, any opportunity to attack Jim.
It’s simple, don’t vote for him.
And if you don’t live in Christchurch then what do you care? We are perfectly capable of making our own decisions.

YWD regardless of where you live, we all (well those of us who are net payers of tax anyway) pay for Anderton’s excesses so yes, everyone who pays tax has a legitimate interest.
I could suggest that those who are net negative taxpayers should STFU and be disallowed the opportunity to vote but Sue Bradford would come whining out of the woodwork like a demented paper wasp and frankly today is too good to spoil it that way.

Two Mayoral gladiators contesting local body elections in October.
Vote:Porirua is spoilt for choice. Nick Leggett and Gregory Fortuin are both strong Labour Party candidates for either Mayor OR MP.
Maybe they can divvy it up between them?

“And if you don’t live in Christchurch then what do you care? We are perfectly capable of making our own decisions.”
Quite. Hence Christchurch tops the country for sexual offenders. I guess even the sheep are ugly.

YesWeDid: If you guys elect Anderton then that proves you really aren’t.

Sue Bradford is too…..how can we say frumpy and plump in a dignified way……. to be a ‘demented paper wasp.’
Maybe a ‘blowsy bloated bullshitting bumble bee’ would be more appropriate.

It is somewhat concerning to see the Press newspaper throwing its weight behind Bob Parker’s re-election campaign. This will be an interesting test for the newspaper and its owners, as it appears that Anderton will win easily. They only have a few weeks to turn it around for their preferred candidate.

Did you hear Goff on Morning Report? He referred to Laban as having been ‘very sick last year’? Is it just me or is it true that almost every time someone leaves the Labour Caucus their Leader starts alluding to ‘illness or stress’? I’m convinced this is a pattern stretching back over a number of years. Am I right? I wonder how Laban feels about the implication here? As the ‘worker’s party” I would’ve thought Labour Leaders would be more considerate of protecting MP’s future job prospects and refrain from implying that the only reason someone leaves Labour is because they are crook. Saying that, maybe Labour is a bad employer and puts too much stress on it’s workers? Maybe we need to alert the unions so they can start picketing Labour Party conferences?

Doobie – Laban had a serious battle with Breast Cancer, a legitimate cause for illness unlike the CC Fiasco.
Vote:August 11th, 2010 at 11:22 am
Let us not miss the point here. There is a real opportunity to take this seat away from Labour. Mana seriously needs a bright new prospect that is able to concentrate on the Kapiti endthe electorate as was well as the rest instrad of never venturing out of Porirua. It is an opprotunity to ditch the insiduous race card as well by avoiding the prospect of having to field a Maori or Pacific candidate.
Vote:Let us remember that there is more to the Mana electorate than just Porirua and that Mana deserves the best candidate, not just a convenient one that appeals to the perceived right demographic.
August 11th, 2010 at 11:26 am
Captain Neurotic – it’s ‘Dobbie’, not ‘Doobie’. I’m not questioning the legitimacy of Laban’s illness and would be callous to do so. I AM questioning why the Labour leadership almost always falls back on the ‘he or she is leaving us because of illness (mental or physical)’ line. In my view, that IS callous.

Mana is a dynamic and up-and-comming growth point, not some povery-ridden backwater
Vote:August 11th, 2010 at 11:43 am
Cannons Creek and Waitangirua are poverty-ridden backwaters. Are they in the Mana electrorate? If so, maybe they be separated off into a new electorate that Labour can go wring its hands in. Meanwhile National can deal with the dynamic parts.
Vote:August 11th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
If National represents good (hah!) and labour the other then surely all New Zealanders deserve the basking glorious glow of National’s attention, even those in Cannons Creek and Waitangirua. But the pseudo-aristocracy that makes up the Nats is too precious to get their hands dirty. Chris Finlayson got his ass whipped (literally) in the badlands of Porirua-it will be interesting to see whether Parata has any guts. And by the way Do(o)bie-your prejudiced attitude stinks!
