Good advice from Bill

Asked how Auckland ratepayers could make sure their flash new council doesn’t go spending too much on big projects, English replies, “Don’t elect a mayor who is nuts for a start.”
What excellent advice.

Yeah, especially look out that he doesn’t start proposing crazy schemes like bike tracks and things.

Whereas Banks wanted to build One Road To End Them All through Meadowbank, surely the good folk up there won’t mind being moved.
Look how well that worked out.

Trying to recall which Olympics it is that Banks suggests Auckland puts in a bid to host.

“they’re all nuts.”
The voters or the candidates?

Any advice from Bill on how to ensure your flash new government doesn’t go wasting money and NZ’s future on welfare and vote buying (e.g. interest-paid-by-others student loans)?

Hardly helpful Bill, given the nutty display of the three main contenders in recent years/months. Each has the stability of a Russian Tzar. Lucky old Auckland, pity about the rest of the country though.

Fruitshop is right, all the candidates are a couple of latees short of a snobby jafaland cafe.

We should all be thankful Jim Anderton lives in Christchurch.

Compared to Len ‘Whack a face’ Brown and Andrew ‘Piddles a lot’ Williams, Banks is sane by comparison.

I’d be more thankful if he lived in Mongolia.

They should be asking bright-ideas-Rodney about this, not Bill, after all, it is rodney who has given us this spectacular-about-to-supernova-situation that this ‘supercity’ is destined for.
I can’t wait…
Hopefully this will end Rodney’s political career.
Bevan – Chch/Mongolia – not much between them in terms of relevance to NZ

Good advice so far, but that would mean having a candidate who isn’t nuts, surely?

Come on Banksie,

Non-nuts may be thinking hard about the risk involved in trying to lead the first incarnation of the supercity.
There’s still a week or two to go before nominations close, either buy a lotto ticket or hope there is some outstanding candidate just waiting just biding their time while the three stooges keep defeating themselves. A late strong candidate would make a major impact. It would be like an eagle landing atop a tree full of monkeys.

Yeah lets host the Olympic Games and hope the tourists don’t see our public transport woes, our South Auckland ghetto, our poor infrastructure and so fourth.
John Banks is sane I tell you!

Well anyone who uses his council credit card to buy is groceries and to celebrate birthdays at swanky restaurants is hardly to be trusted on big spending projects either.

Message to Bill, us Aucklanders will make our own spending decisions thanks very much and you lot south of the Bombays will foot the bill
Us Aucklanders never need to worry about overspending ever again. Auckland as a supercity will be officially “too big to fail”. When Auckland encapsulates 1/3 of the electorate, political reality will mean that the rest of NZ will have to bail us out every time.
Once upon a time it would have been possible for central government to handle the debt ridden nature of a town/city/province by enforcing a bit of austerity or even take over an incompetent board. But they won’t be able to piss off us, any Wellington government that makes us suffer (even as the result of our own council’s mistakes) will be voted out of office.
So Bill just get your cheque book ready…

Elect a Mayor who’s not nuts? Brilliant advice. Where was he when the good citizens of Wanganui needed to hear that years ago?
It is rather surprising that no moderate centrist candidate has emerged from the pack to steal the votes of the mixed nuts though. A reasonably high profile fiscal conservative without Banks’ tendency for controversy and without his link (whether justified or not) to Rodney Hide would carve a large vote from him and wipe up all the “anyone but Banks” voters contemplating Brown.

Auckland needs a mayor who “has” nuts not who “is” nuts. And on that basis John Banks gets my vote.

Well we couldn’t have Steven Joyce. $2 Bill on a road to the foot of the Brydywyns’s really is a nutty idea.
PS Tell Bill Aucklanders can do maths and make their own minds up.

Auckland “Supercity” is going to be like herding cats and the best advice given is don’t vote for crazy folk.
I am going to laugh my ass off when the current lot of incompetents run this city into the ground and wellington is left holding the can.

I feel sorry for the rest of New Zealand. It’s very important the bloody Jafas get it right because like it or not we rely on these turkeys. Considering what these townie tossers are voting for I don’t believe they should trusted with making the right decision. Politics and personalities from Dorkland have proven time after time that they run on their own self interests, it’s time for someone with common sense, the rural sector should be running that cesspit. Time for common sense.

How about the same test for the candidates Last?
That might thin the options out.
