Am I the only one who finds this sort of funny?

September 28th, 2010 at 3:00 pm by David Farrar

AP report:

A wealthy British businessman who owns the company that makes the two-wheeled Segway people transporter has been found dead in a river in northern England after apparently falling off a cliff on one of the vehicles, police said.

I now it is not funny to his family, but I’m sorry the owner of Segways going off a cliff on one!!

If it was an accident, he must have been at maximum speed on a very slippery road!

If it was suicide, then why not just jump off? What statement was he making by riding a Segway off a cliff?

Paul Henry found it funny this morning, but not nearly as funny as Ms Dikshit from India.

Apparently it was an off-road model. Not supposed to be off-cliff though. But you shouldn’t say it’s funny, should call it bizarre (in public).

Weren’t we told as kids not to lean too far over the side of cliffs?

We can be excused when we were kids and laughed when we heard Mr Dunn had died on the dunny. I’m sure that’s far more common than gyro-cliffing.

[Not me of course. I am far too sensitive to find amusement when a tragedy like this befalls someone.]

A man on the other side of the world who most likely none of us knew, who died in unusual circumstances and whose nearest and dearest are unlikely to be reading KB. It’s better to punning than po faced.

Lucia, “A man is dead. This is like throwing possums around.”

It looked like he was a big bloke and I assume it would be hard to throw him any reasonable distance (unless you started at the top of the cliff). Thats why we use possums – also they are a lot easier to get hold of than dead humans.

Having fallen off my Segway several times – not even off-road – and on the most recent occasion breaking my ankle badly, I’m trying to figure out how to keep this news from my wife as she’s already a bit touchy about it. Oh, that’s odd, both the TV and the computer just broke…
