A good call from Celia
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:20 pm by David FarrarThe Dom Post reports:
New Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown has nominated Ian McKinnon to be her deputy for the next three years.
This is a very good call in two respects.
The first is that Ian has been a good Deputy Mayor, and will continue to do so.
The second is that it should lead to a more harmonious Council. If Celia played favourites with who is nominated for Deputy Mayor and Committee Chairs, then she would have a grumpy minority.
So a good start.

Nice one Celia.
Now about that little matter of the $600 million film heading somewhere else…

Somehow I dont think you can expect Sixty Watt- Bulb…sorry, Celia Wade-Brown to convince Warner Brothers to stay in Wellington. Its Warner Bros for heavens sake, they can buy and sell the country.

Ian McKellen would’ve made a better deputy in the current situation.

the expression “Nero fiddles while Rome burns” come to mind.
Three days and not even a whimper. Now Kerry might have lost her passion for politics but she would never, never have sat in a dark room hiding whilst her city was in danger of losing its only other reason to be beside Govt and public Servants.
Clearly Wellington voters are decided to extract revenge on the Govt., lead ably by their new Mayoress.
Hope Wellington voters like tinahori remember that when the jobs go and the next lot of voting comes round because if it( the Hobbit and other films), go Key and English will have a problem with unemployment and balancing the books.
Vote:With a shrinking govt. service as well it looks like Wellington will be the new Dunedin.

She was forced to say something. When economic pressure goes on, socialist thinking people can not handle it. Everyone else is the blame. Celia is definitely a one term Mayor.

FFS what is the Mayor of Wellington supposed to do about loose cannon union fuckwits? Have them shot?

hj>Dear Leader covers that here
So Locke has opted to support an Australian union rather than NZ workers, and Green spokesperson Robyn Malcolm is shitting all over the vast majority of NZ workers who aren’t actors, and all Wade-Brown can come out with is a bit of well-meaning but empty sentiment. And attendance at a union rally? When it comes to STV, I suspect Wade-Brown voted: 1. Auckland actresses, 2. Aussie union bosses, 3. Wellington workers.
At least these Miramar-based workers will be able to walk to the airport and then take a tram in to the CBD when they go for a job interview at Burger King.

Convince her party colleagues not to come down on the side of the loose cannon union fuckwits. And to dissociate themselves with the loose cannon union fuckwit who spent the last election representing the Green Party.

Huh?
What can she do — offer Weta a discount on their rates?
She can’t change labour laws, she can’t increasethe tax breaks on offer. I doubt even much (if any) of the filming would happen in Wellington.

RRM
Her job is to promote Wellington in its best light not sit in the background while 86 people put at risk the jobs of thousands.
She is the Mayor for the entire city not just for Luddite fuckwits and unionists, the type I thought I had seen the end of when Pat Kelly , Bill Anderson and those other communist mongrels died.
Repton, yes the council could offer Weta a discount on their rates. if they decided democratically thats what they wanted to do. Her silence on this reeks of silent approval regarding the way the CTU et al have behaved.

And after watching Malcolm play to the Walrus, who seemed to consider this all a big joke, one is left wondering if Malcolm is just a plain dumb arsed blonde who got sucked into this crap by the Aussie or if she is a kiniving and cunning as Kelly.
Clearly the shits hit her face and so waving her arms, posturing and guestering at Sainbury is the total attempt at a logical explanation. Stupid or plain naive, I ‘m not sure which. Oh but Peter even sent me some flower’s once.
What intelligence.
but then she does vote green.

Well that’s what used to happen to people who committed treason. ( and you can look the meaning up in the dictionary if you are not sure.).
As PEB says its her job to promote her city and everything within that city. That’s what good Mayoresses do. Except that in NZ we have so many partisan political excuses for Mayors that we accept the kind of behavoir that this stupid woman has dished her ratepayers. Perhaps they will waken from their roles as sleeping beauties at the next election and elect someone with a better attitude. Until then, Wellington has got what it voted for. Dim bulbs and bicycles.

So what’s wrong with a union incorporated about a week ago driving a $600m production off shore? If you think about it this has really just saved us a shit load of time… Making movies in NZ was always going to end with idiot unions over reaching in their own self interest so we just hit the fast forward button and killed a lot less jobs now than in 10 years time. Cheers Helen, you probably saved us from another property bubble and a few fun parties where people talk about things other than sticking it to the man.

Dunno, who cares, but the silly bint was in my way right sown Adelaide Road this moring taking out a whole lane with her stupid bike with Green Party shit all over it, I was tempted to implant an en-circled star on her ample arse.

Celia is like a possum in the headlights. Fortunately I don’t think she will do irreparable damage during her three years as Mayor however she will achieve very little either. I do not believe she has the numbers to put her agenda into action. Hand having to rely on Ritchie and Pepperell for support must be a daunting prospect for her.
One expects that Foster will be gutted at missing out on the Deputy role so that is probably one more in the Morrison camp.
Comments here on her lack of noise on the hobbit are right on the mark. Kerry would have been very noisy on the prospect of the film slipping away. She has always supported Jackson and rightly so.
Wade-brown’s win is concerning but she will be somewhat innocuous I suspect. It is a pity that the city has to tread water for three years before it can find a leader with some vision.

Mark – I can’t imagine that Foster would have ever thought he had the numbers to vote him in.
