Len off to a good start
October 29th, 2010 at 7:00 am by David FarrarLen Brown is off to a good start. He reached agreement quickly with the Government on Queen’s Wharf, and has now announced the various chairmanships for Auckland. Almost every Councillor gets a “job” which is sensible, rather than allocate over to those on your side of the spectrum. The appointments are:
Committees of the Whole
- Strategy & Finance Committee – Penny Webster
- Accountability & Performance Committee – Richard Northey
- CCO Strategy and Appointments Sub-Committee – His Worship the Mayor
- CEO Review Sub-Committee – His Worship the Mayor
- Tenders & Procurement Panel – Jami-Lee Ross
- Regional Development & Operations Committee – Ann Hartley
- Social & Community Forum – Cathy Casey
- Culture, Arts & Events Forum – Alf Filipaina
- Economic Forum – Arthur Anae
- Community Safety Forum – George Wood
- Environment & Sustainability Forum – Wayne Walker
- Parks & Heritage Forum – Sandra Coney
- District Plan & Urban Design Forum – Cameron Brewer
- Auckland Future Vision Committee – His Worship the Mayor / Deputy Mayor
- Transport Committee – Mike Lee
Standing Committees
- Hearings Committee – Noelene Rafills
- Regulatory & Bylaws Committee – Des Morrison
- Audit & Risk Committee – Sharon Stewart
- Civil Defence & Emergency Management Group – Michael Goudie
Advisory and Statutory Panels
- Maori Statutory Board – Alf Filipaina
- Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel – Arthur Anae
- Ethnic Advisory Panel – Mike Lee
- Business Advisory Panel – Cameron Brewer
- Rural Advisory Panel – Des Morrison
- Youth Advisory Panel – Michael Goudie
- Social Policy Forum – Calum Penrose
With all these new committees and panels, it will be interesting in say a year’s time to look at what, if anything, they have achieved.

They will all be kept very busy in their little patch which makes it easy to get stuff through and makes deals easy. I would give Sandra Cooney the busiest job of all (apart from Finance) and she can simply be ignored everywhere else as she will not have time to be briefed.

Len Brown is another Obama, a Mr. Promises…the new “super city” has a super debt and an empty kitty….in a years time when people see him coming they will cross the street….

Sounds like you are talking about Rodney here

But no job for Christine Fletcher a former Mayor. I guess Len decided he could not work with her. She has the media skills and profile to be a real pest to Len. Len has made her the Leader of the Opposition and she will use it. She does NOT need the money by the way.

“Accountability & Performance”….*cough*..*splutter*…*slap face*….Len won’t be expecting Richard Northey to actually do any work on that will he?

Lenny B’s 1st actions are just the foundation .. it will be a year, maybe even 2 years, before we see if he is a absolute lemon

I thought that Fletcher got a job chairing the Rates and expenditure committee (or something like that) but I don’t see that listed.

Bernard Orsman was interviewing his typewriter again yesterday on Fletcher…or as is usual for him issuing press releases for the Brown camp thinly disguised as news.
They quite simply tried to pressure Fletcher into accepting the job when they hadn’t even offered it to her in the first place. She refused btw.

Has anyone else noteed the complete Obama-esque way that Lenny is conducting himself….he is apparently boring all the councillors stupid with comments about his vision and my ideas and blah blah blah.
Then there is the truckloads of money being spent for his “inauguration”. Even his press releases from his “Chief Press Secretary” say as much.
Anyone would think Lenny thinks he is the president or something….can’t wait to LGOIMA the costs of the “inauguration”. Rumors are that the number is well above $100,000.
Every other mayor in NZ gets sworn in but not Lenny, he is being “inaugurated”.

Have we found out who Len Brown took to dinner yet?
I would love to see who he spent $800 on.

Love this. Paralysis by committee. Len will probably even stuff up the CCO’s – Auckland’s only hope of making progress.

“The inauguration ceremony at Auckland’s Town Hall on Monday, November 1 is estimated to cost $40,000 – Mr Brown hopes the venue will be packed out.” – http://www.3news.co.nz/Browns-inauguration-to-be-relaxed-but-with-pomp/tabid/423/articleID/182408/Default.aspx
Appears you have been interviewing you keyboard Whaleoil.

phew .. just $40,000. Why not get all the councilor’s into the chamber which sausage rolls and club sandwiches like in many other cities??

Many of the good and obviously higher paid staff and been put off to reduce costs! and wallys left to do the work. Planning and consents will be very interesting to watch.

Love it – they will trip over each other for attention.
Should make a good farce – “Gliding up you”
