A rare extremist in NZ

Muslims at New Zealand’s largest mosque claim its Pakistani imam taught jihad or holy war and preached on the need for men to make as many babies as they could with burqa-wearing women.
Muslims involved claim imam or mufti Abdul Qadir Siddiquei preached jihad against members of Islamic sects he did not approve of and ran a madrasa or school for boys on jihad at the mosque.
New Zealand is very fortunate that the NZ Muslim community has generally avoided the extremists that Europe (and even Australia) has.
This iman sounds like he is very much one of thopse hate filled extremists. What is pleasing, is that it is other members of the Muslim community who have take action against him. The moderates are the best solution to the extremists.
The allegations of preaching jihad and of the madrasa emerged in speeches and pamphlets as around 200 Muslims gathered in thewomen’s room at Auckland’s Jamia Musjid Al-Mustafa mosque on Thursday night.
Police intervened amid tense scenes as members fronted up to each other and at times wrestled and abused one another.
The extremist claims were based on four YouTube video recordings of speeches that are now removed from the website.
The mosque, which has more than a 1000 followers, has united various Sunni sects and Pakistani and Indo-Fijian Muslims, who combined to pay for the building.
Also known as the South Auckland Islamic Centre, it is the most influential mainstream mosque in New Zealand and Fiji.
However, many followers now refuse to attend there and one leading member, Abdul Abbas Karim, originally of Fiji, confirmed he had yesterday filed a police claim of assault and threatening to kill against members following Thursday’s meeting.
Disputes should not involve death threats.
Mufti Siddiquei had applied for New Zealand residency, supported by the mosque, though that support had been withdrawn and he now has to leave the country.

Aside from the religious perspective, Why someone would start behaving in such a manner to the people who are supporting him in a country he was trying to become a resident in is somewhat strange? – it would have been interesting if the person in question had attempted to continue his residency application and how DIA would have handled it

For maoris I think the problem is you can’t use drugs or alcohol. Not a big selling point.

Not so – it’s already happening and my niece (Maori and a practicing Muslim) very proudly told me that they are s-specifically targeting Maori in prisons and that there are already more than 2000 adherents from that source – both in prison and ‘free’. Be concerned old chap, be very concerned, especially when the new converts team up back with their gangland mates after they are released. The ‘rent a riot’ people have seen NOTHING yet.

Christian churches need to open more sports shooting and hunting clubs. You know, some target practice with authorised instructors at the Church picnic to remind NZ of it’s strong Protestan/Catholic heritage.

All Maori bashing aside, Radical Islam is probably a bigger threat to the NZ way of life. Maori are more or less welcoming of all cultures because they have a lot of values that are essentialy Christian, leading to a degree of integration and assimilation into the greater NZ culture.

DF, New Zealand has thusfar avoided extremists only because Muslims are such a small percentage of the population. The extremists are no doubt there: it’s when Muslims become a larger number that they start throwing their weight around. Look at Europe: the greater the number the more those countries start to resemble the Islamic states they or their relatives originally came from. They don’t assimilate but form closed, Sharia law-observing communities. This is not the case in New Zealand but in Europe where the numbers of immigrants are so large.
People should understand that Islam’s purpose for existing is to dominate the world, not to peaceably coexist with other faiths, equal under law. (Look at every Islamic country.) Its “holy book” describes a god – and a prophet – that is happy for people to be forced into submission. And Sharia law applies to NON-Muslims too! Because it’s a total system, not merely a set of beliefs.

DPF: I think you will find that ‘extremist’ views (and thats a relative thing in Islam) are solidly present in NZ, but for whatever reason the haven’t become ‘active’ as they have in Europe/UK. As I hear it such views are solidly present in Auckland and the Hawkes Bay area.

It would seem that Islam will have a fertile field to sow the seed of jihad in NZ as we have had many successive governments (including this one) that have tossed aside the “equal under law” clause when it means they can hold on to power at the expense of the people.

The European experience seems to be that while the initial muslim immigrants may be law abiding the following generation born in NZ will become radicalised by the type of Iman evident in this case and will commit terroist acts irrespective of their parents wishes or example..and yes expect the type of muslim gang offending long evident in Sydney. backster correct me if I’m wrong but organised terrorists couldn’t conduct operations here without getting wiped out and that’s because the population is just the right size and dispersion such as would prevent any group to hide themselves for any length of time without being discovered.
There is no seething mass of humanity anywhere in this country within which those terrorists could melt away.
I fully expect we’ll get the odd psychopath and of course I wouldn’t be at all surprised if more than a few senior terrorist fugitives are already safely secreted under deep cover here but they’re hiding out not operating, if indeed they’re here at all. But that’s it really.
We will never have Sharia law, it will never become what Europe has become. The thing that the Europeans have to start asking is why their own political leaders are facilitating this. Until they ask that it won’t change and time is running out over there. That won’t happen here, ever, because the population will see it coming before it even gets up steam.

Muhammed himself was an extremely superstitious person. The hadith literature especially are full of all kinds of odd practises advocated by Muhammed. For example, Bukhari 9.124: Narrated Abu Qatada:

LDW, as with the Bible, the Koran was begun decades after Muhammed’s death, so we can take it as read that it is not a literal exposition of the Prophet’s (peace be upon Him) teachings. Bear in mind that he invented Islam as a counter to Paganism. He also reportedly changed his thinking in view of circumstances, an ability sadly lacking in any religion that advocates slavish adherence to 2000 year old creative fiction.
But I would say this: if Islam becomes dominant here, it will be because of the power of its teachings and the spiritual void even in the lives of many western Christians.
And/or because rising sea levels makes us a refuge for many tens of millions of refugees, mainly Muslim.

Why do we conflate religion and politics when like water and oil they don’t mix or cross over, I wonder.
Real religion, as opposed to that which is used as a mere political vehicle, has never tried to be political.
Sometimes, people like terrorists and those who fight them choose to use the name of it as it suits the cause. This doesn’t make it so whenever it’s used. The mere context of its use if called upon to justify war invalidates its call unless such use is for neutral humanitarian available equally to both sides. True religion no matter what caste always = peace. It’s always a tell when it’s not used for that by mankind.

To be honest, this is the handy work of the NZSIS because its world cup 2011 Rugby next year. So they want all those Islamic Sheikhs in living NZ to fall inline or they’ll out of NZ for good. Ie canceling their visas.

I don’t see that happening, too much modern knowledge and practice. It was easy to convert native populations where less sophisticated deism and ignorance was preyed on, but it’s unlikely modern populations would go backwards.
I think we are moving more towards an era of private beliefs, where people can chose to worship anything of their choosing or not, where there is little institutional pressure or peer pressure to conform to strictly dictated religions. As it should be.

Trouble is that a lot of these guys show a moderate face to the world, but in private they are anything but. An interesting book I just read about this very subject is Londonistan, by Melanie Phillips I think. Like she says the litmus test for these moderates is – ask them what they think about the jews. Generally Islamic terrorism is treated in the west as a response to the Israel-Palestine situation, but this is naive. Islam hates Israel because it hates the Jews. Not the other way around. And like Britain NZ has the same issues that make it ripe for takeover – a dedication to mindless multiculturalism while simultaneously disdaining and rejecting its own cultural heritage.
