I concur with “Courage Wolf” above. Especially if the criteria is the same as Time magazine use when they choose their “Man of the Year” – the person who has had the most influence etc on the year (as opposed the “best” person etc).

December 15th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
2010 MP of the Year: Chris Carter, for openly venting the sense of superiority and entitlement felt by most MPs but kept masked so as to preserve the illusion we live in an accountable democracy. Chris has done more to wake people up to the true nature of the majority of our “representatives” than even his mentor, Helen Clark.
2010 Labour MP of the Year: Chris Fa’afoi, for epitomising what a shameless, self-aggrandising lickspittle will do to get his nose in the trough.
2010 National MP of the Year: Pansy Wong, for epitomising what an indolent trougher will do once they get their hands in our pockets. Not the worst case in terms of amount, but the worst in terms of utter lack of contrition, which extended right through to her “waah waah poor me” “valedictory”.
2010 Minor Party MP of the Year: David Garrett, for epitomising exactly how MMP panders to the lunatic fringe and foists upon us dishonest madmen who couldn’t muster five votes in a chook raffle.
2010 Press Gallery Journalist of the Year: Julian Assange. Technically not a member I know, but without him most of the actual members wouldn’t have been able to claim to have reported anything the average citizen didn’t already know.
2010 Public Servant of the Year: John Whitehead. We’re borrowing how much and all Treasury can do is bang it’s worn out “cut government spending” drum? Sure there’s fat in the public service that needs to be cut, but where’s the plan to lift productivity and create jobs? What, you were expecting Don Brash to come up with that?
Honourable mention to any police officer who signed up intending to solve and prevent crime but who’ll happily fill his or her shift standing at the side of the road with a speed gun, making sure nobody passes the car load of burglars with the boot full of our property (since they’re the only people motivated to observe the ridiculously restrictive limits, so as not to get caught)

Vote:2010 Labour MP Grant Robertson (one of the few who made the odd intelligent contribution – him and Dazza Hughes seem the only ones with a sense of humour)
2010 National MP – Stephen Joyce for resisting the absurb campaign to lower the alcohol limit to 0.05
2010 Minor party MP – Roger Douglas (still making sense)
2010 Press gallery jounalistic (very poorly served in this area) but Guyon Espinner – mainly for destroying Goff in a Q and A interview)
2010 Public servant of the year – Alan Bollard
December 15th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
2010 MP of the year: John Key for the nation-soothing Grand Prix Grin style of leadership and also for satisfying the monarchist in ones soul. Long live John and Bronagh.
Vote:2010 Labour MP of the year: Trevor Mallard off the leash. Good fighter. Could have had an alternative career in the ring without referring to a certain past incident. Great robust non strident debate. Can’t think of any incidences where he has made a tit of himself in the house.
2010 National MP of the Year. Nikki Kaye. Best example of the nation’s barometer.
2010 Minor Party MP of the year: Peter Dunne. Yes I know it’s trendy to diss or ignore Peter but he actually gets shit done. Look at all the legislation come through his office this year. He’s kind of essential for an effective stable government considering the alternatives are Winston and Rodney.
Or, if John and Bill are John and Paul, Peter is George. (A bit overlooked by the public) and I’d have to say Gerry is Ringo.
Press Gallery: Nick Wang for having the kahunas to ask Pants Clinton about the Nobel peace prize winner in front of the Chinese Secretary General. Mainstream=John Armstrong.
Public Servant: John Angus Children’s Commissioner. “Doin it for the kids” and most media hits of any senior public servant.

Right, I have an unusual list and it goes like this:
2010 MP of the Year : Katene (Maori)
2010 Labour MP of the Year : Prasard (Labour obviously, but just in case you didn’t know)
2010 National MP of the Year : Bakshi (National obviously, but just in case you didn’t know)
2010 Minor Party MP of the Year : Clendon (Greens)
2010 Press Gallery Journalist of the Year : Who cares
2010 Public Servant of the Year : The Chair of the Breastfeeding Commission
Why? Well, because all of these outstanding people did absloutely nothing in 2010. And that, dear readers, fills my heart with joy. The less the Government “does” the better I feel about life. The less they “do” the less they fuck life up for me. So, these are the true heros of 2010. I’d like to see more like them, all 122 or there abouts.
Vote:December 15th, 2010 at 11:12 pm
2010 MP of the year :: John Key – another great year for John.

2010 Press Gallery Person :: Barry Soper – always funny to listen to a drunken bum on radio, hours of entertainment.

Vote:December 16th, 2010 at 11:33 am
