Thanks Bryce and Danyl

And Danyl has broken them down into individual cables on his blog.
Fun reading.

I quite like this one……all about the appointing of Winston and Minister of Foreign Affairs over Goff.
Especially this little gem…….
“If Cabinet were an airplane, then Phil Goff must feel as if he were asked to exchange his first-class seat for one in coach”

It’s not exactly theft, though, is it? No offence has been committed under NZ law. And it’s not as if the cables have revealed info we didn’t already more or less know, or at least suspect.
But if toeing the US lapdog line works for you then that’s cool with me. It’s almost Christmas and I am in a giving mood.

RICHARDSON, WHO ALSO HAD A FARMING BACKGROUND (ALBEIT A WEALTHY ONE),
TOOK A SHINE TO SHIPLEY AND BECAME HER MENTOR AND GODFATHER
Now that IS a serious worry.
I always was a bit suspicious of the very short hair.

With respect to Australia’s anti-whaling case against Japan at the ICJ, which NZ just last week announced it would not join, it was noted that NZ “believes that a legal case at the ICJ will probably not succeed”.
Former IWC Commissioner Sir Geoff Palmer also “privately … conceded that there may be a sustainable harvest that can be applied to some whale species.” Ultimately though, “with New Zealand in an election year (2008) … no NZ politician can support any level of whale slaughter”, he said.
Not news really, but confirmation of what we already knew.
Our politicians should make decisions in a manner consistent with NZ’s obligations under international agreements, rather than worry about what the extremists in New Zealand that back the likes of Sea Shepherd think, not to mention trying to support the Australians in their deluded attempts to try to get whaling activities conducted under the terms of the very whaling convention that they are adhered to declared illegal.
(I’m waiting for Australia to discover a face-saving reason to drop the case before they lose it – Kevin Rudd who decided to bring the case is no longer PM, after all, and presumably the US as well as NZ will have been telling them this behind the scenes.)

Since we eagerly lap up the Wikileaks leaks, I take it we are all contributing Assange’s defence fund?
I must admit, I would prefer him top go back to Sweden for his questioning session (and it’s only a case of his word against theirs, and it’s only a misdemeanor) but we all know the US is gunning for him so maybe he is better off where he is. I don’t know.
But I do know all you who use and enjoy the results of his work and his courage and don’t donate to keep him going are hypocrites, writ large!

He didn’t copyright or charge for access to the stolen “info” as far as I know Luc.
