The Maori Party’s problem is that it was formed with one goal in mind and struggles for coherence and relevance as they get set to agree to the Nat’s final offer (which changes nothing, really), and for those imaginary crumbs they have been sucked into supporting policies that will cause a lot of damage to the people that Hone cares about.

Hone can change that. He’s got the right idea, which is for the party to now distance itself from the Nats and forge a true identity.

Protesters to target spy base

Protesters are making their annual pilgrimage to the Waihopai spy base this afternoon.

Green MP, Keith Locke, will address them in Blenheim, before they trek down to the base this afternoon. Mr Locke says there’s unjustifiable secrecy about the base, and the US has free reign over the way it’s used.

He says information it collects is used in ways most New Zealanders would disagree with and wants to see the base shut down.

Oh gees here they go again. Losers.

Ta for the reply. I understand what you’re saying (inc. the irony), and I know your view that Sharples and Turia don’t speak for all maoridom (and nor does Harawira for that matter).

I’m of the view, better to be in the tent and at the table talking, to make improvements. Politics is compromises at times. Hone doesn’t appear to me to either get that or want to even try.

I also agree with Komata’s 7.29’er.

Anyway I gotta laugh at Trotter making out that Hone is admired by the Left. Heh, heh, I think alot of wimpy activist lefties would get a bit of a bashing from Hone, if he were a bit younger, as one thing Hone doesn’t like, is being told what to do and think, something that leftie idealist activists are so good at doing. We were therefore able to produce what I believe was and is an honest appraisal of the situation at that time. We were further enabled by the presence of an oversight committee consisting of Pief Panofsky, Vicki Weisskopf, and Hans Bethe, all towering physicists beyond reproach. I was proud of what we did in a charged atmosphere. In the end the oversight committee, in its report to the APS President, noted the complete independence in which we did the job, and predicted that the report would be attacked from both sides. What greater tribute could there be?

How different it is now. The giants no longer walk the earth, and the money flood has become the raison d’être of much physics research, the vital sustenance of much more, and it provides the support for untold numbers of professional jobs. For reasons that will soon become clear my former pride at being an APS Fellow all these years has been turned into shame, and I am forced, with no pleasure at all, to offer you my resignation from the Society.

It is of course, the global warming scam, with the (literally) trillions of dollars driving it, that has corrupted so many scientists, and has carried APS before it like a rogue wave. It is the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist. Anyone who has the faintest doubt that this is so should force himself to read the ClimateGate documents, which lay it bare. (Montford’s book organizes the facts very well.) I don’t believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist.

So what has the APS, as an organization, done in the face of this challenge? It has accepted the corruption as the norm, and gone along with it.

What’s your problem with science? The idea of some kind of gravy train is just crap. I have severe reservations about carbon trading schemes as a solution to our climate woes, but the science is entirely sound.

We have the technology. We can measure influences. We know it’s the burning of fossil fuels that is warming the planet. The future for kids like my two year old is scary. Why? Because we in Godzone will be fine. That makes us a target.

We will not carry on in some kind of denial paradise while most of the world is going to hell in a handcart.

I’m into Cold War docos at the moment so I’ve started from the beginning.

Aro video in Wgtn and Videon in Mt Eden has the full series adze if you don’t want to pay bandwidth charges. It’s very good. Ted Turner was the project sponsor and I think the production quality and the people they interview, is just reflective of the level of access they were able to achieve with almost it appears unlimited funds, when putting that series together.

How come it looks like and acts like a propaganda operation designed to make people think the enviwonment is thwetened and we must save it by paying lots more to the govt.

HONOLULU – A privacy law that shields birth certificates has prompted Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie to abandon efforts to dispel claims that President Barack Obama was born outside Hawaii, his office says.

State Attorney General David Louie told the governor that privacy laws bar him from disclosing an individual’s birth documentation without the person’s consent, Abercrombie spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz said Friday.

“There is nothing more that Gov. Abercrombie can do within the law to produce a document,” said Dela Cruz. “Unfortunately, there are conspirators who will continue to question the citizenship of our president.”

Good point re the NCEA debate…I just commented on it because as a family we have experienced both systems..So many commenting seem to have little interest in the quality of the education; they are only interested in politicizing the debate in a really limited , slogan like way..Where the Cambridge exams come from is completely irrelevant to the debate…the only issue is which system will give our children the best shot at life after school.
My son is now doing very well at engineering at Uni..none of his kiwi friends got past the prelim year..They just did not have a good enough grounding and did not have enough of a work ethic..I suppose I am criticizing the NZ system from woe to go..I feel that it is the feminazis who have turned our schools into a joke..From the moment the boys step into them , they are classed as second class citizens..I could go on but I have posted on this before..There is definite bias against boys from the first day in primary school.

A new wave of young criminals plaguing NZ society.
What sort of beasts and savages do we have living among us? The mind boggles.

Teenagers in Child Youth and Family care were caught trying to break into cars just days after allegedly trashing a dream home in Northland.

Four boys aged 14 to 15 are accused of breaking into Neil Croft’s beachside home in Ngahau Bay, 22km northeast of Whangarei, after slipping away from their caregivers.

Police say they broke into the beachside home, blocked the toilets, ripped a $7000 TV from the wall and smashed it, punched and kicked holes in the walls, threw around flour and sugar and pulled clothes from wardrobes. They also allegedly spilt chemicals from the spa pool and ripped up a lounge suite. Someone urinated on the floor.

There is definite bias against boys from the first day in primary school.

Joanna as a woman what is your assessment as to how other women (the teachers themselves) could override their natural nurturing instincts in order to practice this behaviour in the first place?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not challenging the allegation, it’s just why is it happening and how has it come about are interesting aspects of this, to me.

Really? So things like at 12 he was institutionalised throughout his very critical formative years and that what he did to earn that, at so young an age, means his upbringing up to that point at home wasn’t too flash either, don’t have anything to do with what he’s doing now?

What goes on in some families is beyond belief. Hopefully most of you know I’m not really into hand-wringing, and I’m not into it here either. My point is, this is easy to stop, simply by all relevant govt agencies collectively identifying, targetting 24/7/365 and sharing data on the 5% who do 95% of the crime. We don’t do that because that would be discriminatory, apparently, but this would be simple, doable with a law change, and effective. Initially it would be costly but once you’d started working with these people if you hadn’t already started all of them on a new track within 6-12 months then you’d be being something wrong.

Manolo, I don’t suppose the cuddle-a-crim brigade that regularly appear here will like it, but the best thing that could happen for Bailey Junior Kurariki is what would happen to him were he a dog. Best for him, best for society. This POS has proven himself time and again to be beyond redemption and undeserving of a place in society, so we should stop fooling ourselves that he can be “rehabilitated” (or in his case, “habilitated” since he has clearly been rabid for almost his entire life).

If we as a society don’t want to put down him and his ilk, then as a minimum we should be able to determine those who are beyond redemption and permanently remove them from society (to somewhere like, say the Auckland Islands).

Yes dad4justice…It is all pervasive…I have no idea how to change it. Many people do not even recognize it.
Interesting in CHCh at the moment , a large proportion of people going to counseling and swallowing cupfuls of Loraz are young to middling ”working women” From the cradle , they have heard that they can DO anything , they have totally swallowed the lie but now they are finding that even six degrees , seven awards , ten management conferences , five CEO positions can’t help then in the face of Mother Nature..for once in their lives , they are not in control.

Did you ask him or her (which was it BTW) on what they were basing their assessment?

At a guess I would hypothesize this person was mistaking capability for the fact that girls at 5 have got better communication skills because that’s what they depend on for survival – it’s a genetic aspect of the female of the species. Therefore it would be no surprise they developed these faster than boys. At 5, as I recall, most boys are just interested in having fun. But to misinterpret that as a measure of capability is profoundly mistaken isn’t it, especially for an education professional.

Regardless of whether I’m right or not, developmental psychology would have long ago identified the actual reasons. So if boys and girls are different, and one actually gave a shit about educating both types of people, one would design different courses for each wouldn’t one. If one were cynical one observes that feminism would say this would be sexist and utterly verbotten and this is why they don’t do it.

No we don’t Pete, we express our maturity in boyish ways. You would have noticed no doubt that many girls are now choosing to express their maturity in boyish ways as well, which means feminism’s taking hold in society, and just watch it become more and more widespread. What I’m talking about is the drinking to excess, one-night stand natural boyish hangout for centuries is now being undertaken by young girls because “they’re liberated.”

Unfortunately no-one’s thought to point out to them that you don’t have to think like a boy, in order to be liberated, but that’s what feminism does.

Another angle of attack they use is against boys, by not designing education to take advantage of their developmental path, in favour of designing it for girls, so they can “catch up.” Of course the fact they’ve thrown the baby out with the bath-water, or in order to right a perceived wrong they’ve committed another wrong, permanently escapes the vast vast majority of our self-proclaimed highly intelligent education professionals. The fact we as a society never say anything about this but just let it happen year after year, isn’t too flash either, but what can you do? Make a doco about it?

Perhaps if we got Branjalena or however the hell you spell that mental name, it might work.

There are so few actual differences between boys and girls that most of what you are saying makes no sense at all. But I guess that’s not the point when you just want to have a misogynistic or partisan rant. Don’t let facts get in the way.

When I look round at the young men I know: good husbands and fathers, being promoted in their jobs, involved in sport and the arts, top graduates of our state schools and universities – however did they survive the feminazis? Or the system supposedly designed to favour the girls?

Some boys may take longer to learn to read and write but they sure catch up when it matters.

And why do some of you want to leave it all to the schools? Out of 24 hours the school has them for only 6!
