Carmel’s gracious apology

February 15th, 2011 at 11:59 am by David Farrar

Carmel has done a gracious apology for her blog post blaming the publication of two victims of sexual abuse on the National Government’s civil service cuts (it turned out to be an error by the Judge). Her gracious apology is:

Oh right wingers. The day I apologise to the National Government or any of its members, will be the day that the National Government publically apologise to us for falsely accusing the former Labour Governement of causing the first recession in this country, rising unemployment, rising debt and the second recession….ain’t gonna happen eh:)

I admire a politician who can apologise when they get something totally wrong.

    my god.

When i read the headline i thought “fair enough, she got it wrong, admitted it and said sorry. everyones human. forgiven”.

she then goes on to prove what a piece of trash she is.

i hope when her parlimentry career is over, she is never allowed to teach again.

Is there anyway I can append a ‘gracious’ commentary to this without getting demerits? ;)

Carmel Sepuloni is one of the more underwhelming of Labour’s 2008 intake. Her public contributions are always shrill, sophomoric, and transparently partisan. She seems to subscribe the Bomber Bradbury school of disingenuous simplification (National = private sector cuts = baaad … derp, derp, derp), dumbing her utterances down for the masses she has such little faith in. Will likely be a Labour Minister one day.

DPF were you at the last episode of Backbenchers last year when Damien was going into the crowd and asking MPs who their favourite MP from the other side was? Aaron Gilmore said he thought Shane Jones was a good guy, but when Carmel was asked she basically made clear her opinion that all National MPs are evil. It’s kind of a sad state of mind to be in when these are the people you work with day in day out on things like select committees.

No wonder shes one of the few Labour MPs left without a caucus ranking.

Right wingers???? National is not only keeping every substantive piece of legislation that Labour introduced except the EFA, and even Labour voted for its repeal, but is continuing to make the government even bigger. Apparently, anything short of full blown communism in this country is the radical right wing.

Labour is nothing if not obvious. Their strategy for this election year, as in every other election year, is to paint its opponents as radical far right nutters, no matter how alike they are to Labour, and to use words like “slash” to describe plans to slow the rate at which our comparatively enormous government gets bigger.

It’s particularly bad if an MP talks that way, but this sort of comment is commonly expressed on this and on other blogs about people from different political leanings. It’s as if many people want everyone else to be little clones of themselves and won’t tolerate any variation.

We can thank MMP for delivering us this impulsive, self-regarding, arrogant fool. And for the man who saw nothing wrong in stealing the identity of a dead baby, let alone in condoning homosexual prison rape.

We can also lay blame at its feet for Kanwal Singh Bakshi, Raymond Huo, Shane Jones, Ashraf Choudhary, Pam Corkery, Su’a William Sio, and all of NZ First, to name but a few.

Unless it was intended to lower the already low bar for candidate selection and election, it’s failed us. We needn’t – indeed we shouldn’t – go back to FPP, but we do need to rid ourselves of this liability, the only notable facet of which has been to foist upon us even greater liabilities.

It would and it should. Joyce I am sure is more than impressive enough to win a seat. Or, if the National Party doubted that, they have a choice of safe seats – many filled currently by people with hardly a pulse let alone a thought – in which to stand him.

It would, however, rid us of the upkeep of the likes of the aforementioned Mr Bakshi, presumably chosen by National purely on the basis that he makes the “Nat MPs gather for their first caucus” pics look “inclusive”, because he’s of f___ all other use.

All the Maori party MPs would stay of course.

And so they should, if that’s who the voters want to represent them, despite the fact we may have our own opinion on the wisdom of those voters (or, indeed, the wisdom of those seats).

    But they certainly did:
    a) Squander a lot of money on useless government programmes, rather than save for a rainy day.
    b) Waste 1 billion on a trainset, purchased on the eve of the biggest financial meltdown since the 1930′s.

The mere fact that this politician seeks to make a childlike (nah-nah-nah) style argument over this debate speaks volumes as to the value the taxpayer is receiving from continuing to pay her salary.
