Perigo on TV
March 31st, 2011 at 4:13 pm by David FarrarStratos announce:
PERIGO TONIGHT!
Lindsay Perigo is back with a brand-new TV interview show discussing philosophical, political and cultural topics with a special guest every week.
Tonight’s guest is Stephen McIntyre, former president of the National Organisation for Marijuana Law reform. With the recent police raids and arrests of cannabis growers, Lindsay and Stephen will dissect the issue of whether or not marijuana should be de-criminalised.
Join us for a half-hour of intelligent discourse.
This should be good. I’ve just set My Sky to record my first Stratos programme. Somewhat annoyingly it does’t give a series record option.

Wow, first Beatson and now Perigo. All we need now is someone to coax Simon Walker back onto TV and we’ll have the set
Great to see people who can actually conduct an interview – one in which the subject is asked intelligent, well researched and intuitive questions and given the chance to answer – returning to our screens. Now all the TV bosses need to do is put them on One and 3, and relegate the egotistic amateurs to the digital channels and the NZ populace might actually reach the end of a current affairs show better informed than they were at the start for a change.

Good topic.

Perigo’s interviewing skills are second to none, and beyond comparison with the crap currently on TV every night, exemplified by the lamentable Sainsbury and Campbell.
That and the good English spoken by him should be a draw card. If his program is 1/10th as good as his talkback radio show, it should be a success. Good luck to him.

Ha! Wait until daylight saving kicks in, much as we love My Sky it’s a shambles at daylight savings time with international broadcasts. If you want to record stuff, all their programs are out of sinc with the our real air time. They had the series record a while back for news programs like O’Reilly but it suddenly disappeared with no reason offered. Speaking to someone with English as their second language and trying to explain daylight saving is a waste of time, they don’t seem to get it, they think YOUR TV is playing up.

“dissect the issue of whether or not marijuana should be de-criminalised.” Yawn! Been done before a million times and wont change a thing. No doubt the NORML crowd will drag out some smelly dreadlocked old hippie with severely slurred speech, telling us that Cannabis is the miracle drug that cures cancer and will solve all the world’s problems….groundbreaking indeed.

You don’t record Bomber’s War on News every week?
It’s 15 minutes of pure awesomeness!
[DPF: I tended to watch the odd episode on the web. Now I have located Stratos on My Sky, I have Bomber set for series record]

Thanks for the heads-up. Series function on the Media Center is now locked and loaded. At least we know that the series probably wont be brain dead…

I agree with most who have commented (this is getting to be a serious worry Rex…) but I wonder if it will be quite the same, as Lindsay has long ago “come out” as a rabid libertarian? I recall watching his interviews years ago, and it was impossible to know which “side” he was on; he asked the same searching questions of the righties as the lefties. I recall being astounded when – after he resigned – it was revealed what Lindsay’s personal view was.
You can’t put the genie back in the bottle, but I wouldnt be surprised if he is the same incisive interviewer – of both the right and left – as he once was. Welcome back sir – the weasels who call themselves journalists in this country now could learn much from you.

Here is one of Mr Perigo’s favorite song:
America The Beautiful (Mormon Tabernacle Choir)
The last time I saw him at a party at Peter Creswell’s place (last month) in Auckland and I started humming the America The Beautiful in a baritone voice, then Mr Perigo joined in by singing it in a tenor voice. Soon, 2 others joined in as well. Beautiful harmony.

I don’t have Sky so I watch most news on Stratos.
Despite the blatant bias, Al Jazeera’s correspondents are very good.
And you can’t beat the PBS Newshour for analysis
Case in point, watch or read this complete destruction of a stupid pacifist’s arguments that was on the show tonight.

Why has Perigo been side-lined for so long? Was it by choice or what?
Shame, either way.

His next guest should be that addlepate and political neophyte Peter Dunne who just yesterday decided to ban something that gives people a legal high similar to that of cannabis but isn’t.
Will it work? From TV3:
In short, plenty more where that came from, Peter. Just go now. Let’s be done with you.

I know perigos brother in law, and he basically said that Lindsay is too clever for his own good. he does not know when to play the game and so pisses off the people who he reports to, so does not get asked back.
he is a very good interviewer. and to answer David Garrett, i saw him interview Don Brash in front of a room of clients of a financial planning company (so typically small govt focused), and he did not let him get away with anything, and pushed him to provide an answer when he was obfuscating. this was about 2 months before brash got rolled by Key.

This excellent, I remeber him in my teens as a good interviewer.

Hum, are Perigo and Douglas really the best the Right have to offer. Worrying times. Talent renewal failure.
Vote:March 31st, 2011 at 11:32 pm
Er Paul.
Lindsay was the interviewer. His job is to elicit information, not elucidate his own opinion. Which he did admirably.
Surprised you didn’t get that.
It’s just sometimes lefties can’t understand it when their mental theories aren’t allowed to over-ride the sensible logic.

There was nothing neutral about Lindsay’s debut last week – wonderfully refreshing to see a right-winger standing up for his beliefs with clarity and passion.
I’m kicking myself that I forgot to tune in tonight. Does anyone know if it’s saved anywhere?

Another soul-dead libertarian, oh great, group hug everyone.

Would have been more helpful if you provided a time and the name of the show but I guess typing a few extra words is too much. Thankfully I have no interest whatsoever in cannabis reform.

I watched and waited for the intelligent discourse, but it failed to arrive. It sounded like Perigo preaching to the converted, quite literally, from the pulpit. Old anecdotes, old faulty reasoning, not at all interesting. Clearly they don’t have a high expectation of their viewers.

“I’ve just set My Sky to record my first Stratos programme. Somewhat annoyingly it does’t give a series record option.”
Thats a pain. Is it on around the same time each week? If so you can set up a manual series link.

I like Lindsay Perigo, but I hope the show gets better. For a new show, it already felt tired and dead. The pulpit and the background were – in teenage parlance – totally gay. Not in a good way.
Less preaching, more depth needed.

Can you list some of those faulty reasoning here? Humans do have faulty reasoning, however reality is not, ie, it is not contradictory. Perigo’s reasoning is based on objective philosophy and if you think you can demolish that, please do so.
Anyway, before you do that, here is a good summary of what you have to demolish. I recommend you read it first.
“Importance of Philosophy”

I would be interested in your attempt demolition of objective philosophy that Perigo’s reasoning mechanism is based on.
Go ahead man (or woman) and lets see your refutations.

I watched the first episode of this program last week. It was quite good. Intelligent discussion.
Although, having said that, Perigo is pretty arrogant. He refers to himself in the third person and also uses words like “Peritorial” for his editorial bit.
I watched for about 2 mins last night. Couldn’t stand it for any longer. It’s really all about Perigo attempting to show how clever he is and how dumb everyone else is (including his guests on the show). Doesn’t he know that no one likes a know-it-all? Perhaps he could call his editorial “Superitorial”?

Good to know y’all are watching – best interview show in the country, no one does what he does with any depth, style or professionalism.
Here is Perigo, Show 3 with Muriel Newman as interviewee. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rgKSEvbgZs&feature=player_embedded
Stay tuned for future shows because we have an excellent and interesting interviewee line up.
