Sky on iPad
April 27th, 2011 at 3:29 pm by David FarrarHave just downloaded the Sky TV app for the iPad and can see me using it a lot.
The basic app is that it allows you to see the programme guide for the next week, in an easy to follow format. But the real killer part is that once you enter in your account details you can set your My Sky box to record programmes from your iPad.
So you no longer need to be at home to record things. You might be at a friend’s place and see a programme that you want to record. Hit your iPad and it will be recording within seconds back home.
If you forgot to set it in the mornng to record something, you can do it at any stage during the day.
I wil be using this app a lot.

Where’s teh Android app?
Not really relevant to me as i am a T-Box customer with an android phone. I will not change my phone platform but could be tempted to switch my pay TV provider. Sky needs to try harder.

This function has been available on any regular device with an internet connection for over a year. I use it on a regular basis.

Andrew,
It works on iPhone as well. At least the information service does – I don’t have MySky to test that on

That is really, truly, amazing.
There are things on TV that you actually want to record ?

You can do this from the skytv.co.nz site anyway. Don’t need an iAnything

I use TiVo to record programs off Freeview, and have been using a web browser (on my old Nokia E63) to MyTiVo.co.nz to set programs to record when I’m away from home.
Vote:Not sure what advantage an app would have except for perhaps a specially tailored interface to suit the iPad screen size.

The problem I have with it is the same as the website. If you set something on the box it doesn’t show up in the app. Nor does anything set in app or website show up on the other. It’s all one way.
Vote:- Set on box, only show on box.
- Set on web, show on web and box
- Set on iDevice, show on iDevice and box

A couple of years ago we had applications that would run on any platform with a standards-compliant browser. Now we have platform-dependent applications. Worse, we have platform-dependent applications that must be approved by Apple before you’re allowed to run them. And they’ve been making some really strange decisions recently regarding the applications they’ll let you run.
It’s a giant leap backwards for IT progress.

Like, seriously, it’s as if Steve Jobs invented a microwave that could only cook food that Apple had approved. And iMicrowave meals were purposely formulated not to cook in any other brand of microwave. But instead of rubbishing the completely crap concept, people started raving about all the cool iMicrowave food they could buy.

Wow! Can it also teleport you back in time 18 months so you can download the torrent of the show when it was first released, or do you still have to wait the 18 months for Sky to catch up?

Lol oob
That’s why you get Sky for sports or docos, not movies
