And the gloves come off. Wait for the single most racist election campaign in this nations history.

And its not going to be coming from Labour or National.

it gives me the shits to do so, but I concur .. the issue is that if Davis wins, it will give Phil Gaffe a platform to crow from that Labour is back .. the dickweed will not get it that the country wants Harawira gone, no Labour in.
    this e-mail is going around:
As a rule, I don’t pass along these “add your name” lists that appear in e-mails, BUT this one is important.

It has been circulating for months and has been sent to over 22 million people.

We don’t want to lose any names on the list so just hit forward and send it on.

    Please keep it going!

To show your support for the MP, Hone Harawera, and the job
He is doing please go to the end of the list and add your name. …

I predict that such advertising would probably help Hone Harawira’s/Mana Party electorate vote, and probably undermine Labour’s party vote in Te Tai Tokerau.

Be upfront, DPF: this is all just to get Judith Tizard back into Parliament, isn’t it?

[DPF: Ha, I had honestly forgotten about that. As you know Parliament could now resolve not to fill the list vacancy, or Kelvin could try not resigning his list seat]

Excellent! Although I think he mentioned a while back that with such a short period to the election that Labour could actually nominate not to fill the missing spot from the list?

I don’t see why you are so keen to stop Hone. I think it’s worth having him around as he might just split the vote enough to get the greens out of Parliament. And nobody of any importance takes Hone seriously, whereas the Greens are sort of believable.

This years election will obviously be colourful,Labour will be using the Stop sign campaign as their primary electioneering gimmick and we will be seeing them ad nauseum throughout the motu.
As for Kelvin Davis, he is in with a chance and is clearly champing at the bit to have a go. However Hone is playing games with Te Tai Tokerau by saying he will resign and then not doing so. Hone is stalling to see who the Maori Party will stand against him. My pick would be Naida Glavish, who has the integrity, skills and experience to do the job. Also Naida would take no crap from the Harawira’s, she has her own large whanau behind her.
If Naida is selected then Kelvin’s chances will be considerably reduced, the majority of Nga Puhi live south of Whangarei and Naida would clean up there. She has the Mana.

No, Labour would increase by one MP, with Davis taking Hone’s electorate seat, and the next Labour candidate on the list (which at the moment is Lesley Soper) would fill the vacancy left by Davis’ then-vacated list seat.

It appears you’re confusing the upcoming general election with the ramifications of a by-election. If Davis wins Te Tai Tokerau in a by-election held prior to the election, Labour would gain an MP at the expense of Hone Harawira.

iMP-”Same thing would apply to Nats if Steven Joyce stands in an electorate and wins, or Kate Wilkinson won Waimak off whingng Clayton Cosgrove.”

If either Steven Joyce or Wilkinson entered the Te Tai Tokerau by-election and won, they would take Hone’s seat, and in turn Conway Powell, the next on the National list, would take over the now-vacant list seat. National would have the same number of list MPs and one extra electorate MP as a result.

I was amused that 3News only reported the resignation (about 6th or 7th story)and didn’t cross to Garner, Gower or Wright for a spin on the by-election. Perhaps they have decided that it won’t be worth the effort needed to report and to starve Hone of a chance to foam at the the mouth on TV.
