And the gloves come off. Wait for the single most racist election campaign in this nations history.
And its not going to be coming from Labour or National.

Isn’t this a bit premature?
Vote:Last time I looked, Hone hadn’t resigned.
The duplicitous fellow might not go!

it gives me the shits to do so, but I concur .. the issue is that if Davis wins, it will give Phil Gaffe a platform to crow from that Labour is back .. the dickweed will not get it that the country wants Harawira gone, no Labour in.
this e-mail is going around:
As a rule, I don’t pass along these “add your name” lists that appear in e-mails, BUT this one is important.
It has been circulating for months and has been sent to over 22 million people.
We don’t want to lose any names on the list so just hit forward and send it on.
Please keep it going!
To show your support for the MP, Hone Harawera, and the job
He is doing please go to the end of the list and add your name. …

I wonder whether endorsements from the likes of DPF and Cactus will help or hurt Kelvin Davis….
Vote:May 11th, 2011 at 9:22 am
I predict that such advertising would probably help Hone Harawira’s/Mana Party electorate vote, and probably undermine Labour’s party vote in Te Tai Tokerau.

Agree with Alex. So far there’s a lot of noise but no action from the Hone Camp. BAU then.

Be upfront, DPF: this is all just to get Judith Tizard back into Parliament, isn’t it?
[DPF: Ha, I had honestly forgotten about that. As you know Parliament could now resolve not to fill the list vacancy, or Kelvin could try not resigning his list seat]
Vote:May 11th, 2011 at 9:44 am
Excellent! Although I think he mentioned a while back that with such a short period to the election that Labour could actually nominate not to fill the missing spot from the list?

The only way to do it is to build a time machine and make sure the Mother fell in love with Mike Laws.

Is that like when you predicted that you were about to become the MP for Botany Penny
But can someone clarify; if Davis wins Te Tai Tokerau, does Labour lose a list MP, and will Louisa Wall’s tenure be even shorter than her last one?
Vote:May 11th, 2011 at 10:07 am
Actually, I think Hone stopped himself.
Extreme racists are not so bright for some reason.
Try not to take it personally Hone amd family.
After all it is probably just all part of God’s plan.
You know Hone that great white MOFO in the sky.
Vote:May 11th, 2011 at 10:17 am
It will stop Hone OK! It will stop him from resigning and forcing a byelection. His allegedly crappy office and his ‘wop wops’ seat in the House would be sheer luxury compared with the WINZ office queue.

It’s such a shame that legislation in NZ stops the TAB from offering odds on this kind of thing.
I’d be off down the road to put $5 on Hone not resigning

I doubt the Luddites will stand a candidate against Harawira. Quite the contrary, the Green Party might even support the Maori thug.

I don’t see why you are so keen to stop Hone. I think it’s worth having him around as he might just split the vote enough to get the greens out of Parliament. And nobody of any importance takes Hone seriously, whereas the Greens are sort of believable.

This years election will obviously be colourful,Labour will be using the Stop sign campaign as their primary electioneering gimmick and we will be seeing them ad nauseum throughout the motu.
Vote:As for Kelvin Davis, he is in with a chance and is clearly champing at the bit to have a go. However Hone is playing games with Te Tai Tokerau by saying he will resign and then not doing so. Hone is stalling to see who the Maori Party will stand against him. My pick would be Naida Glavish, who has the integrity, skills and experience to do the job. Also Naida would take no crap from the Harawira’s, she has her own large whanau behind her.
If Naida is selected then Kelvin’s chances will be considerably reduced, the majority of Nga Puhi live south of Whangarei and Naida would clean up there. She has the Mana.

“But can someone clarify; if Davis wins Te Tai Tokerau, does Labour lose a list MP, and will Louisa Wall’s tenure be even shorter than her last one?”
No, Labour would increase by one MP, with Davis taking Hone’s electorate seat, and the next Labour candidate on the list (which at the moment is Lesley Soper) would fill the vacancy left by Davis’ then-vacated list seat.

On this occasion I think Penny may be right.
His opponents would be better advised to run a positive campaign, and refrain from personal abuse.

Well Shazza, depends on how well Goffy does. If Davis does win and Lab stays on current (2008) results, they would have one less List MP.
Vote:May 11th, 2011 at 2:18 pm
Same thing would apply to Nats if Steven Joyce stands in an electorate and wins, or Kate Wilkinson won Waimak off whingng Clayton Cosgrove.

It appears you’re confusing the upcoming general election with the ramifications of a by-election. If Davis wins Te Tai Tokerau in a by-election held prior to the election, Labour would gain an MP at the expense of Hone Harawira.

iMP-”Same thing would apply to Nats if Steven Joyce stands in an electorate and wins, or Kate Wilkinson won Waimak off whingng Clayton Cosgrove.”
If either Steven Joyce or Wilkinson entered the Te Tai Tokerau by-election and won, they would take Hone’s seat, and in turn Conway Powell, the next on the National list, would take over the now-vacant list seat. National would have the same number of list MPs and one extra electorate MP as a result.

I was amused that 3News only reported the resignation (about 6th or 7th story)and didn’t cross to Garner, Gower or Wright for a spin on the by-election. Perhaps they have decided that it won’t be worth the effort needed to report and to starve Hone of a chance to foam at the the mouth on TV.
