Labour polls budget before it is delivered
May 17th, 2011 at 4:34 pm by David FarrarLabour Finance Spokesperson David Cunliffe has a poll on his website asking “How did the National-Act Budget affect your family?”. 86% of respondents have already said they will be worse off.
Quite remarkable to do a poll on how the Budget has affected your family prior to the details of the Budget being known.

So 24 (yes, just 24… there were less when DPF posted as the figures had changed when I checked) jumped the gun and answered.
The only conclusion it’s possible to draw from this is that an unknown proportion of people visiting Cunliffe’s website are dense.
Mildly interesting, but hardly worth an entire blog post… oh wait, I get it… DPF’s on smoke duty… no doubt Whale’s getting the mirrors ready
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 4:47 pm
Have you written your post praising the budget yet DPF?
You know something that says it’s measured, responsible, sensible, spreads the pain and sets a good platform for the economic recovery.
You could set this up to go automatically and then take the day off.

Heh, when I visited there was 1 vote for ‘no change’, which apparently represents -6% of votes cast. I guess that’s the sort of math Labour are using to come up with their policies.

What a pack of dumbarses! Their dopy leader asked the PM today whether he had seen advice from the IMF on the NZ economy.
The IMF??????? The bloody IMF??
Of course the question was batted away with the perfet reply.
“It’s not a very good week to be taking advice from the IMF……..”
Even Russel Norman looks more like leadership material than those sad sack niincompoops in the Labour Party.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 4:53 pm
Also notice he’s described it as “the National-Act Budget”, maybe he doesn’t think the Maori Party and Dunne are worth a mention.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:02 pm
not many votes on his pole .. I said I was better off .. probably won’t be but of the few who have bothered, most have also said the same
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:17 pm
I visited the site to see what was happening there and there is a video on the home page with Jacinda Ardern saying “Go the All Whites”.
So I can see Labour’s campaign shaping up… Goff will bang on about the Springbok Tour and the Vietnam War and Ardern will wish the All Whites good luck for the World Cup. They’re like a political time capsule.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:18 pm
Well, that’s sorted that out – quick smart.
Been over there and got him back up to 64% better off.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:18 pm
LMFAO, I just voted, currently running at:
Better off, 62% 31 votes
Worse off, 42%, 21 votes,
and
No change, -4%, 1 vote
What a complete bunch of fucktards, and how utterly demonstrative of that bunch of morons.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:20 pm
I’d say so. Labour always ignore Maori – they just want their votes.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:21 pm
It’s been said over and over – and yet obviously, the thrust is far too complicated to filter through the party’s cro-magnon corrugations into the microscopic and party-selective pores of Labour consciousness.
“Truly, Labour is a party where the willfully blind actually do lead the completely blind.”
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:24 pm
Sheesh; the votes are rolling in, and oddly, almost everyone voting is better off!
But what a shocker of a website. I hope the taxpayer didn’t pay for it; it’s ghastly to look at!
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:24 pm
I’ve done my bit for the cause – better off now at 65%
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:25 pm
Now:
How did the National-Act Budget affect your family?
Better off (65%, 40 Votes)
Worse off (37%, 23 Votes)
No change (-2%, 2 Votes)
Total Voters: 62
Total sock puppets.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:35 pm
Better off (71%, 54 Votes)Worse off (30%, 23 Votes)No change (-1%, 2 Votes)
How can 2 votes = a negative. Is that pollster lingo that no-one else understands or is that how labour balances the books.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:35 pm
72% now. Good fun!
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:38 pm
It’s not just the negative percentage that’s wrong. 54/79 = 68.35%, 23/79 = 29.11%, 2/79 = 2.53%. Even with some seriously weird rounding I don’t see how to get 71% and 30%. I get the -1% because they’ve taken 100 and subtracted 71 then 30 to get -1.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:50 pm
…… its not like the Budget changes have been secured by MI6 …… for many, the budget is already out …….
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:50 pm
I’m sure they’ll now have to zero it before the actual budget comes out, and start again. But if it had stayed at “worse off” no doubt they could have just carried the votes forward into the actual survey….
I’m not sure what value a political poll has on a political website……why do we care? I mean, what credibility would “A Labour party web poll on the Labour party website found that 89% of people would rather have a Labour govt” have?
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:50 pm
Don’t worry, ch. It’s just the cunliffe version of maths. The same maths that tells him more borrowing is the only way to get out of debt.
It must have been one of Cunliffe’s family who demonstrated to our fourth form maths class conclusively, by way of algebraic formulae, that one equals two.
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 5:56 pm
better off = 77%
Vote:May 17th, 2011 at 6:00 pm
Inventory2 – yes, The headings almost made me puke while looking for the poll. Of course it is pitched at the faithful – doubt it will take too many votes off National.

I saw some CTU posters opposite Wgtn hospital today, about the budget. The posters were from this campaign they are running.
I wonder if they’ve asked their members for permission to spend their funds that way?
Or do they think they don’t need to cause they already know the answer?
You know I bet a clever conservative govt could do something really cute with that phenomena, regarding their ability to adopt a political stance and campaign on that with members funds. I thought they represented their members. I didn’t realise a trade union was like a political action committee, cause that’s not what the members pay for, is it. As far as I know, the members pay for service in the workplace, and their politics they get from elsewhere. Isn’t that how it works? What am I missing? Perhaps Penny or toad could explain.

If you haven’t used your IP address to vote then there are radio buttons for each option.
Once you have voted you don’t get the buttons – just the totals. So far it’s 84%.

I only voted the once, but I note that it took me about 10 seconds to work out how to vote multiple times (well, at least to get it to give me the radio buttons again – didn’t press the vote button again). Same way I use to read more than 10 economist articles in a week. Sigh.

I wonder, will Silent-T think his policy settings might need adjustment, or will he think it’s a rogue poll?
No I won’t get you started BC but please feel free to start anytime and I’ll join in. I suggest we make something up but pretend its real in order to make some Liarbore staffers do nothing tomorrow but futilely attempt to track down this outrage. That would be cool.

With a bloated public service and 1.7 taxpayers for every beneficiary, polls asking NZers how an empty cupboard budget will impact them are bound to secure “worse for me” votes.
A better question would be ‘will our kids be better off or worse off in 20 years time as a result of this budget?’ Decades of handouts, faction group vote purchases and tax-led assaults on productivity have ensured that past answers to this question would have been “no”

I’m certainly better off if I’m no longer paying for families to the extent I was, students and the others to lazy to have taken care of their retirement. But lets not stop there, I’d be even better off without the Breastfeeding Authority, Ethnic Affairs, Women’s Affairs (they can sort their own affairs out, thanks, they usually do in this household), Human Rights Commission, Weathertight Homes Tribunal, Arts Council, Income for “Artists”, etc etc.

Speaking of the Breastfeeding Authority, the head of this was interviewed on NatRadio yesterday. She continually pronounced ‘women’ as ‘woman’, couldn’t answer the simple questions put to her, and sounded totally ineffective. Why do we have such an unnecessary body as this, and how much is it costing the taxpayer?

And it looks like the poll has been taken off. Probably a good idea.
That was pretty funny – especially considering that Cunliffe is kinda correct – in that one shouldn’t expect to be better off after the budget that comes after 2 earthquakes, Pike river, SCF etc. Of course we aren’t going to be better off, we have all this extra shit that needs to be paid for somehow that we didn’t have last budget.
To be fair, the fact that the WordPress poll widget gets the rounding wrong is hardly Labour’s fault. It was probably done by the same guy that implemented that lovely red background.

To be fair, the fact that the WordPress poll widget gets the rounding wrong is hardly Labour’s fault.
They chose to use it. I hope they choose more accurate software when costing their economic policy.
A politician’s loaded question poll was never going to produce anything meaingful, but I agree, we shouldn’t be better off after the budget, as a country we have become progressivley worse off over that past three years so we have a bit of catching up to do.
