Labour won’t be happy campers due to their Wide Open Web. We shouldn’t be happy either, and not just with them.

Typical, sadly, is some of the reaction – Whaleoil response blatant dishonesty? – our entrenched political sickness needs a bloody big injection of something different.

You’d think they would have learnt from past outbreaks of exposure but no, the self interest of the parties is too deeply rooted. No matter who’s done the most wrong in this latest debacle they won’t change more than they have to, again. Unless we confront them and make them.

Then, maybe, we can introduced some ethics into politics.

Hmmm, ethics in politics. DPF just mentioned “debate proposals on their merits” on his Rascist post. We are starting to hear some good positive phrases.

We need to keep pushing them until the politicians listen to us – and take notice of us. They won’t introduce it themselves, unless they have to to save their skins.

The level of outrage at Cameron Slater’s revelations is hilarious, given The Standard’s cheerleading for The Hollow Men, Wikileaks and the theft of Sarah Palin’s e-mails. Of course it doesn’t matter – its only altering history. Just like we can’t give our kids golliwogs nowadays. Not supposed to read them Noddy & Big Ears nor play Sooty & Sweep on the TV. But its OK for some rap singer to use the term but not a film based on the factual account of the bombing of the dams.

mikenmild: You’re dog whistling again. Of course its history – Guy Gibson’s dog was called nigger. In the original film The Dambusters, the dog was called nigger. The new (Sir Peter Jackson) version hasn’t even been released – but the placard wavers have already bleated about the name of the dog and even SPJ couldn’t believe that it had become an issue (but only in the eyes of the pinko’s). FFS – some people have nothing better to do than to try and change history.

No different to the rugby team that was called the NZ Natives. It will be known as the Natives forever but if there is a TV programme about their exploits, it sounds like we can count on you to call for their name to be changed too. And your call will only prove that you have infected by this same PC malaise. You should take something for it – perhaps a dose of reality.

It’s pathetic, petty, petulant and most of all, it’s PC crap.

Vote: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0 You need to be logged in to vote
  48. mikenmild (6,603) Says:

I doubt that anyone will refer to the 1884 team as anything but the New Zealand Natives or try to deny that we ever had a Minister of Native Affairs etc. I’m just pointing out that getting upset about the name of a dog in a fictional portrayal of a Second World War air raid would be as nonsensical as getting upset about the historical inaccuracies in Braveheart or Schindler’s list.

Don’t worry too much about the label PC – it’s just short hand for changing social attitudes. We don’t call people niggers or natives any more, just like we pay women equal wages and don’t have public floggings – it’s called social progress.

there seem to be two relevant parts of the Crimes Act:

249 Accessing computer system for dishonest purpose (http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1961/0043/latest/DLM330422.html#DLM330422)

    (1) Every one is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years who, directly or indirectly, accesses any computer system and thereby, dishonestly or by deception, and without claim of right,—

    (a) obtains any property, privilege, service, pecuniary advantage, benefit, or valuable consideration; or
    (b) causes loss to any other person.

    (2) Every one is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years who, directly or indirectly, accesses any computer system with intent, dishonestly or by deception, and without claim of right,—

    (a) to obtain any property, privilege, service, pecuniary advantage, benefit, or valuable consideration; or
    (b) to cause loss to any other person.
    (3) In this section, deception has the same meaning as in section 240(2).

252 Accessing computer system without authorisation (http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1961/0043/latest/DLM330430.html#DLM330430)

    (1) Every one is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years who intentionally accesses, directly or indirectly, any computer system without authorisation, knowing that he or she is not authorised to access that computer system, or being reckless as to whether or not he or she is authorised to access that computer system.

    (2) To avoid doubt, subsection (1) does not apply if a person who is authorised to access a computer system accesses that computer system for a purpose other than the one for which that person was given access.

    (3) To avoid doubt, subsection (1) does not apply if access to a computer system is gained by a law enforcement agency—

    (a) under the execution of an interception warrant or search warrant; or

    (b) under the authority of any Act or rule of the common law.

    And then this guy’s reply:

    (1) Every one is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years who, directly or indirectly, accesses any computer system and thereby, dishonestly or by deception, and without claim of right,—

Well done Eddie!…now let’s scroll on back up to s217:

dishonestly, in relation to an act or omission, means done or omitted without a belief that there was express or implied consent to, or authority for, the act or omission from a person entitled to give such consent or authority (my emphasis)

The fact that the information was available to all and sundry would suggest that there was an implied consent. In any respect, WO just needs to genuinely believe that such consent existed, it matters not whether that belief was reasonable.

As for s 252, it’s a hacking offence, it requires defeating security measures…of which there were none.

You couldn’t make this stuff up!

Go the banks, anyone got any substantial amounts “invested”??? Privatise the profits, socialise the loss is becoming the norm. Time to spend what little I have.

The banks just go from scam to scam.

NZ banks buy into covered bonds

Covered bonds can make bank depositors nervous because in the event of a bank failing, investors in this instrument take precedence over them.

They’ve been illegal in Australia since 1959 but are a familiar sight in many other countries.
