The Nation this weekend
June 10th, 2011 at 4:51 pm by David FarrarThe Nation’s lineup:
We will profile John Key then Sean Plunket will be live with the PM for half an hour — the interview will focus on John Key the person, what drives him, what his deep down beliefs are and what sort of legacy he wants to leave behind him.
Also: The lighter side of politics with retiring Civil Defence Minister and long time party whip and after dinner wit, JOHN CARTER.
The Key interview could be very interesting, and the Carter one likely to be hilarious.

We already know what drives him… a brand new BMW every couple of years
What his deep down beliefs are…that everything should be left to the free market
And regardless of what he wants his legacy to be, it’s so far standing at massive job losses, broken promises, outright lies and dirty deals done dirt cheap.
I’d rather the interview focussed on where he thinks the private sector is going to pull 170 000 jobs out of it’s arse in the next 4 years, where the average broke as fuck kiwi mum and dad is expected to come up with enough dosh to buy themselves a profit share in the asset sales he’s seeking a mandate for, what charities he supposedly donates his salary to…
…I could go on and probably will

Nick R .. I thunk he has fantastic beliefs that we all could learn from. BWAV .. for gods sake .. a/ the BMW thing was set up by Labour b/ what do you think would have happened to the unemployment rate if the incompetent Labour Party were still in power and c/ the 170,000 figure comes from the useless Treasury who don’t know their arse from their elbow .. I say fire the lot of them.
Vote:please go on .. can’t wait to see what other unsubstantial bullshit you can come up with

B with a V…good post.
Vote:The thing about John Key is that he is so vague and indefinite. There is very little to say about him because he says very little of any consequence…I have never encountered anyone who comes across as so vague. He has turned fence sitting into an art form. So many other politicians of all persuasions are so much more colourful. They stand for something.
What does John Key stand for? Who would ever know.

The man is an empty suit driven by nothing and who believes in nothing. His legacy will be the paralysis, the complete inaction of his government to tackle the deep problems afflicting NZ. So far, smile-and-wave Key is an abject failure.

Hell Manolo. I wish you would stop talking Goofy up.
Its starting to have an effect on the polls.

Hell no, Johnboy. I detest Goff and all the envy and mediocrity he represents.
Vote:Furthermore, if socialist Labour wins I’ll be arranging my affairs to leave NZ inside twelve months.

What will you do if socialist national wins?
Vote:June 10th, 2011 at 7:04 pm
who would want to be PM of NZ at the moment .. what a terrible position to be in. NZ is struggling big time .. the thing is, virtually EVERY country is in the shit including most of Europe and the States. Aussie only have the mining sector saving them and it seems we MAY have oil off Taranaki and possibly other parts of our offshore areas BUT the greenies are protesting as usual.
Vote:Of ALL the 120+ MP’s we have, Key is the only one to get us through in a shape that won’t send us to the wall.
I ask ALL Kiwiblog followers, Please tell us what present MP will be a better leader than Key?

I hope you noted that I phrased that question very carefully!

If there were Internet Police, they’d be pulling Johnboy over and fining him for reckless over-use of smilies.

Note that I only use the one type.
This is not due to ignorance but the dreadful urge I get to really annoy people.
I think I probably need committal to an institution other than this one!

Typical Socialist’s IV2.
Steal all the best
that we, enlightened, freedom loving, paragons of beneficence create.
Cloak it in their pathetic left wing dogma and try to present it
as their own original thought!
They only do it because deep down in the hearts they know. SOCIALISM IS A FAILURE!!!!!
We should just feel pity for the whole sorry bunch really.

I suspect that it will be a very short interview – I have come to think the Key is really a smart mathematician but as a statesman – pretty much a bum.
And Ive never vored labour in my life.
And im approaching 70

John Key is a clever politican he remains positive and puts a bright light on bad situations hence his popularity.
The problem with Phil Goff is he has no clear vision where he is going to take the the country, he has been in Government since he changed out of his school clothes so should have figured it out by now.
John Key’s popularity is basically because he has no credible opposition.

rakuraku @3:03,
….”John Key’s popularity is basically because he has no credible opposition.” I agree but more importantly, he has no credible opponent in his own caucus (at this time).
Now if you were to weigh up the value of all the real worldly experience in the National parliamentary force, and still see this as a true statement, then it makes much of the commentary in the blogs look pretty stupid.
The problem is not one of Labour and labourLite looking and acting the same, but one where the attitude and outlook(s), are too greatly different.
Closer Poll results and a more energetic, practical and forward looking Opposition is urgently needed.
Yes, I do vote National.

I thought John Key came across quite well in his interview, it was interesting to learn about his influences growing up too although I don’t quite get his admiration for Rob Muldoon. It would have been useful for Plunkett to let him finish some of his sentences too, a bit of Paul Holmes disease creeping in there.
Vote:June 11th, 2011 at 11:23 am
That was good. I really do believe the case he makes & I have to question peoples rationality when they try to invent hatred for him. If they can’t paint a more positive goal, then they can’t.
