Key in Rimutaka

July 29th, 2011 at 1:20 pm by David Farrar

As I have said before, I think it is very healthy to have the Prime Minister do public meetings. I’d attend this one myself, but I am judging a debate between young ACT candidates that night at the Backbencher!

Well done to Jonathan Fletcher for organising this. I’d encourage people to ask tough (but genuine – not point scoring) questions. If I was attending I’d ask why National won’t introduce performance pay for teachers.

I have had the pleasure of working with Jonathan on a professional level. He will be a fine candidate and a worthwhile representative should the people see fit to elect him as such, as they nearly did with Richard Whiteside in ’08

I’d argue that there is plenty of opportunity for performance pay for teachers DPF. Lead teachers get rewarded with units and allowances. But to go with your words, I’ll tell you exactly why National (or any government) won’t do it. Brace yourself:

The government doesn’t want performance pay for teachers because it’s not in their financial interest to do so.

    (Shock, horror).

Do they have some other than Boscawen and Nicolson who are under 60, or is the debate just between them?

    Questions.. Hmmm. ok…

“Mr Key, why have you created an entirely new, but deliberately vague definition of ‘ownership’ too be applied to NZs foreshore and seabed?

It looks to be a mechanism designed to appease and benefit the elite of Maoridom in return for their coalition support, while simultaneously providing a plausibly deniable position to ordinary NZers who feel their heritage has been sold from beneath their feet”

Re the logo, I presume a non-MP would struggle to get Parliamentary Services to pay for his or her electioneering material.

I would suggest Parliamentary Services wouldn’t pay for a senior MP’s electioneering material either considering it would be ILLEGAL.

I can answer your question about teachers and performance pay (though a simple internet search could also work) there is no where on the planet where performance pay for teachers has done anything to lift achievement levels, and given just how well Kiwi teachers perform in comparison to other OECD countries it would cost a shit load of money too.
