Where does he stand on global warming? Is he a denier like Rodney or in line with the general consensus?. Where does he stand on nudity (if Keith locke is standing there again)?

@hj – Isn’t Keith Locke retiring? Checked Wikipedia and it says Keith’s age is “66-67″ (perhaps the Greens are opposed to birthdays too.) ;)

“in line with the general consensus” (snort)

Can someone explain the big picture of what National has to gain by winning Epsom?

Quite bizarre that Stuff calls Epsom a “blue ribbon” seat:

Former Auckland City Councillor Paul Goldsmith has been selected as the National Party candidate in the blue-ribbon seat of Epsom.

A “blue ribbon seat” is a National Party seat.

That is the only meaning of the phrase.

It ceased to be a National Party seat when Richard Worthless lost it to Rodney.

Because he knows he would lose. He is unelectable.

So Don Brash can act like a Leader and campaign over the entire country instead of wasting his time door knocking in one electorate for the next four months.

Pity Aaron isn’t contesting it for ACT. Hopefully John Banks will retire after one term, and another ACT candidate will win it.

    cheers

So its well anounced now then that the NACT’ts. want rid of the rats. Labour gone. Green gone No need anymore to pander to the racists so hopefully they will get what they rightly deserve and with some sort of luck not even get elected.
Next question is will the Nats. vigorously fight the maori seats.

    WE could hope so.

This portends good for a fiscally good right wing Govt.
    Dig baby Dig.

More oil, coal, and so on.
    Way to go.
And those climate scungers can piss off as well.

In answer to your last bit V2; no. There’s no point pouring money into the Maori seats, because Maori will not vote for National in large enough numbers to make it a worthwhile investment.

Hagiography is a more accurate description of Goldsmith’s book.

Goldsmith was employed as Banks’s ‘press secretary’ while writing his hagiography. Look forward to a non-campaign in Epsom – National may as well have selected Mrs Banks to run.

No thread referring to National’s Epsom campaign could be complete without Whale Oil’s offering….

…..”National’s campaign plan is now set in stone, Paul Goldsmith is the only person on earth who is more unlikeable than John Banks. National will now have to campaign for the party vote only in Epsom because Paul Goldsmith will simply piss everybody off.”…..

    Congratulations to Paul.

Now, next question, who will be replacing Wayne Mapp in North Shore? He has not really been a beacon of inspiration lately, and it’s good that he is retiring. That’s the problem with the so called “safe seats”, high quality candidates not always required!

I would also love to see National put forward a concerted effort in the Maori seats. It may be profitable in the long run.

I guess the suspicion was that Bhatnagar was popular enough to win it. What a shame. But both of those fullas are too close to Banks to give him any real run. What a waste of time, and what a waste for the good people of Epsom. Do we really have to put up with these amateurs and scoundrels for three more years?
