ACT list announcement at 3 pm
August 28th, 2011 at 1:58 pm by David Farrar
ACT are announcing their list at 3 pm in Auckland. Act on Campus have set up a live chat facility where they’ll cover the list live. I’ve embedded the facility here so those interested can follow it also.

This is crazy. If Catherine Isaacs is not ready to have her name announced, then what does that say about her commitment to stand? And without her name there, it means the highest woman is #9, which the media will attack.

Catherine Isaacs?! Hope the hell not!!!! Surely it’s a different Catherine, Catcus Kate.

Let the speculation on spot number 3 begin. Cactus Kate isn’t giving much away on her blog.

It’s got to be her (Catcus Kate). She wouldn’t be rated number 28 or lower, surely? Isaacs said she didn’t know if she was going to stand or not.

Very happy to see Don Nicholson at 4. Now for him to kick the idiot English’s ass in Southland.
Vote:Expect to see Cathy Odgers at 3
Disappointed to see Peter McCaffrey as low as 27.
Great that Calvert is gone.

Nicolson above Banks obviously to maximise profit via Epsom. Would hate to see Odgers at 3 as it would be an obvious attempt to put gender-appeal above merit, although at the end of the day this list looks rather shit compared to the days when there were people of the Franks/Shirley/Newman calibre.

I suspect Peter was given the lowest spot in purpose, as a reverse compliment. Media often try to interview the lowest ranked candidate, so parties tend to put someone there who is safe and loyal. In reality no difference between being ranked No 12 and No 27.

Thanks David. I realise there is no practical difference between a ranking of 12 and 27 on an ACT list, but was unaware of the “reverse compliment” philosophy.
Thinking more on this, when the number 3 spot is finally announced it should have large media coverage, as there will be a lot of media interest in this in the interim, due to the “surprise element” and all media will be wanting to find out who it is. Therefore hopefully it is CK, will be a good introduction of her to the populace.

But like many candidates he has made it clear he’s not interested in campaigning for electorate votes, just for the party vote, as noted here:

Well Bill will probably visit that place he once used to represent but then maybe he won’t and with his list place it won’t matter to him.
Farmers like right wing and liked Nicholson so he just might kick arse if he goes about it the right way. Now that would be fun.
