And according to Obama the earthquake was on Bush’s Fault.

“Cut, Cap and Imbalanced.”

That doesn’t really make much sense to me.
If we’re talking in terms of negating destruction, in the real world it was Republicans trying to negate Obama’s destructive influence of trying to raise the debt ceiling.
So really the Tweet should read that Obama wanted the 6.0 quake, and the Republicans trying to bring it down.

I WISH he always gave the Republicans exactly what they wanted.

Fletch – ensuring the government can pay its bills is destructive? The debt ceiling is a ridiculous political tool which the Republicans use to threaten economic ruin as a bargaining chip.
BTW, how many times has the debt ceiling be raised before Obama? And now all of a sudden the Republicans are concerned about spending. Of course not when they are sending the US into a 3-4 trillion dollar war in Iraq. Only when Blacky McBlack Man is president does spending suddenly become such an important issue.

Raising the debt ceiling was necessary to ensure that the federal government could meet the spending commitments outlined in the budget. The Republicans helped to pass the budget – if they didn’t want the government to spend so much, that was the time at which to negotiate on it. It’s absurd to mandate certain spending commitments, and then turn around a few months later to try to prevent the government from keeping those commitments.
But the joke isn’t really about “level of destruction”, it’s a jab at Obama’s version of “compromise”. See also here.

Weihana: you think the Republican opposition to the debt is based on the fact that Obama is black? Shit, that’ll explain all those newspaper articles that explained how the debt was a problem because the President was black.

PaulL – no, but it certainly is a large part of the reason many tea-baggers don’t like him.
But if the Republicans are so opposed to debt why do they spend so much?
Vote:August 26th, 2011 at 6:49 pm
Well, I think you’ll find that the big govt conservatives were running things, and the tea partiers weren’t happy then either. But their side, so where do you go. Then Obama came in, and increased spending, combined with a collapse in tax take. And they said “enough’s enough”. I have friends who struggle with the concept that they have a $250K debt that the govt created on their behalf, and that can only get paid if the govt finds a way to tax them $250K over time.

Weihana, that’s flat out racist to suggest that. And the term “tea baggers”, been drinking long and deep at the liberal’s kool aid have we ? Perhaps the real joke is about how a certain new Senator back in 2006 got up and made an impassioned speech about how evil it was to raise the debt ceiling, and yet now it’s the “evil rethuglicans” making that argument, and he does’t like it. How’s that hope and changey thing workin’ out for ya ? Worst. President. Ever.
Simonway, what “budget” would that be ? One of the real mysteries of the current administration is that despite it being a requirement that a budget be produced annually by the Senate, the Democrats have not put one up for over 2 years. Obama actually proposed a budget early this year, and guess what, it was voted down 97-0, in a Democrat controlled Senate ! Paul Ryan has proposed a budget that did address the deficit, but it was voted down, again by the Democrats in the Senate. So what budget are we talking about ?
In the end, the latest deal agreed over raising the debt limit doesn’t reduce spending at all, it actually increases spending, but it does slow the rate of increase a bit. And most of the “savings” are supposed to be negotiated on later, so what are the odds that any spending will be cut ?

I disagree. They made little noise when trillions were spent in Iraq. They’re not against spending, they’re against spending that they don’t like.
They’re also supportive of free market capitalism. Unless of course we’re talking about farm subsidies for people like Michelle Bachmann.
The tea baggers try to portray themselves more as libertarians but really they are just the social conservatives repackaged.

Increased spending? As if Bush was so restrained with spending? Funny how the tea baggers didn’t have a problem with spending then. Obama inherited an economic mess and of course he did the only sensible thing that could be done in the circumstances, he took on debt to keep the economy afloat.

Nothing I have said has been racist, in fact.

Yes I am liberal and I don’t very much care for the homophobic bigots, like Bachmann and Palin, that populate the Tea Party movement.

Although the difference is that the Republicans wanted to take on debt to finance irresponsible spending in a time of economic growth when they should have been using that growth to pay off the debt. Unfortunately Obama didn’t inherit a growing economy he inherited a recession and has to act accordingly. Though that doesn’t change my opinion that the debt ceiling is a silly political tool and it’s not surprising that Obama made use of it when it suited.
Worst President Ever? No I think I’ll leave that title to his predecessor who wasted trillions on pointless wars, eroded the US constitution, endorsed torture, and left the US economy in near ruin upon his departure. The worst thing about it is that I voted for him.
