No biking mishaps today, and now I have coffee. Perfect.

So on to the photo; keeping up with the spring theme :)

Tui died out here in Paradise in the 1992 snow.
About 3/4 years ago a group released a few pairs to restock. we are about 2 Kms from the nearest release site and a pair have finally turned up here
    in our garden.
Fine with us so long as they don’t give the shift to the Bellbirds who have a more varied songsheet are less prone to alcohol abuse from flax flowers.

    Another great Pic C.

Thanks for kind comments Linda & Elaycee. Glad the digital age makes it easier to share such things.

@gravedodger- conversely, I’m hoping bellbirds will make it back into the Auckland/Northshore area :)

We have both bellbirds and tui in our garden. Seems to be room for both.
With a look and a beak like that though, if I was a bellbird I think I might make myself scarce!

    Lovely shot Chthoniid

Yes, that’s Gause’s law :) There’s enough differentiation in their feeding strategies to cohabit.

Still trying for that even more elusive shot of a tui in flight…

I heard that during the gold rushes miners kept Kakapo as pets (interview Radio NZ with Gerry McSweeny).

At Glentanner (end of lake Pukaki there is a tame black bird with white tail feathers. It has some missing as (apparently) “a tourist pulled them out”
