Kiwi’s have a lot to thank Rodney for, especially the person above although he is too dumb to know it.
But then the venal left and troughers of old wouldn’t thank him for getting the changes made that he has.

Everyone is entitled to make a mistake but the nature of the venal is that they never do but their self righteousness gives them permission to attack the person who does.

But that’s a lack of principle and when did the left and the venal ever have any of those things.

Someone Else, you are scum. and until you reveal yourself and make public what you have done for Kiwi’s and NZ you will always be scum.

That’s very charitable Manolo. What ya gunna do now to lift the performance of politicians?
National to govern alone so back to the good old days of rorts and bad legislation and giving away the Empire to the Hori’s.
The viscousness with which Rodney was attacked over his perfectly legal and even correct mistake tells us more about the scum that rip of the system and try to Hide it (pun unintended) than a stupid mistake of perception that Rodney made.
After all it was always Rodney’s money anyway.

Very unfrotunate that now we will only have lefties and leftie light and communists in Parliament

OK, Viking, let’s go through the list of Hide’s hypocrisy:

1. Rodney perkbusted the MP superannuation scheme. So every MP since 1999 has a ‘perkbusted’ scheme but, because Rodney became an MP before 1999, he still benefits from the scheme he busted. And then there is the trip with his girlfriend to attend a wedding in the UK.

2. Rodney basically positioned himself to keep National honest. When he became Epsom MP, he became National’s lapdog. When he became a minister, he became National’s bitch.

3. Rodney talked tough on crime. Yet he condoned Donna Awatere Huata and David Garrett until it surfaced in the media.

4. Rodney says he enjoys helping people. I know of several constituents who went to him for help but he didn’t help as it would create waves with National or not generate headlines for himself.

5. Rodney prefers First Past the Post yet he runs a minor party that wouldn’t exist had it not been for MMP.

6. Hide campaigned against corruption and for his mate Dave Henderson (the South Island one) about being bullied by the IRD. ‘Hendo’ just turned out to be another kiwi conman developer who ripped off Christchurch ratepayers and the taxpayer. How much did he give ACT over the years to spin his shit? How much did he fund his own movie which built up Rodney’s ego?

7. Hide doctored the Auckland Supercity so a right wing agenda would dominate. Backfire!

For all you Rodney loyalists out there, please name one thing Rodney has actually achieved and I will give you an example of how he is a hypocrite. (I look forward to your response MyNameIsJack, you smug git.)

8. Hide led the Auckland Supercity changes to improve transparency and accountability. Yet so many decisions are made by unelected officials and many financial figures are dissolved in obscure entities.

Rodney is a plonker. How petulant and immature to refuse to make a valedictory speech. He really revealed his dignityless character in this instance. He revealed his abject stupidity by saying after he had done a ”big is more beautiful bitch” in Ak , that maybe CHCH could become a super city. CHCH had had amalgamation about twenty years earlier. Much of the current day corruption and dysfunction dates back to this prurient exercize. How could Hide be Min of Local Govt and not know the history of the country’s second largest city???

Auckland rates staff are stressed to the max by the numerous cock ups caused by the super city rubbish. They are not allowed to employ extra staff..only temps who don’t know what they are doing..One of these hard working people has a serious health condition. It is totally unfair that hard working people have been put in this position to glorify some jumped up little gits delicate ego and of course for little gain to the city..
The sooner he shovels off the better.
”Big is beautiful ” was old and tired when Muldoon was preaching it decades ago..It is outragious that another short stop got to use the same hollow slogan again..

The country’s huge private debt was largely run up you Aucklanders borrowing up large to buy rental properties off each other and Labour was too gutless then to do anything to stop it. What a great legacy Helen left us!

No, Viking2, it’s not a matter of being charitable or uncharitable towards Hide.

I did support Rodney Hide in his early perk-busting days, when he was driven by the desire to correct and clean things up. Somehow, he lost his way and ended up engulfed by (and enjoying) the baubles of power he initially fought against.

His leadership of ACT was weak and brought the party close to its final throes. Hide shares a great deal of responsibility for its sad state of affairs.

Personally, I wish him well in retirement. There is much more to life than the dirty world of NZ politics.

I have no particular reason to defend Rodney…he walked away from me when the shit hit the fan. But most of you are dead wrong. ACT’s demise – and I DO think it’s probably had it – is more down to Roy’s delusions, and Roger Douglas backing her because he didn’t approve of Rodney’s style…but then as others have said, no leader since Kirk has been able to keep Roger playing with the team.

Yes, taking the European trip with Louise was a huge blunder, and it took him a long time to “get it” – I suspect long after he said he had. But for all that, the guy’s a political genius – or perhaps erratic genius would be a better description. I wish him well too.

ACT turned to custard before then. ACT’s demise came from the leadership change. Prebble was a brilliant political communicator – he knew how to attract voters by talking about how great a flat tax was. Rodney screwed up by compromising and trying to cuddle up to National by trying to appear moderate. This turned off the ACT voters who supported the bluntness and straight-upness of Prebble. Prebble was ACT’s greatest loss.

Courage: I dont know Prebble so am not qualified to comment on him…remember that Hide was the first – and sadly probably the last – leader of ACT who led the party while IN GOVERNMENT….you can say and damn thing in opposition…One of the few things I know about Prebble is that his interest in law and order issues was a suit he put on only at election time……

Adze: Last time I ventured into this territory I got banned for a week! Let’s just say she truly believed that if she was the leader we would instantly have gone to 10% in the polls…with a couple of exceptions, no-one else thought so…She thought she was a great speaker…since she is now a private citizen I’ll leave it there…

I thought when Brash took over I would switch my vote from National to him this election. Now it’s all gone pear shaped not sure who i’m going to vote for? Conservatives maybe? I want someone to pull national right a bit

I can’t understand why ACT felt going down the conservative path was going to help them. Brash got some traction in Orewa when he was National party Leader but that support largely came about because of conservative anxiety – an anxiety that isn’t as ripe today as it once was. Brash was crazy to try and reignite that debate now with a centrist government in power and he lacks the charisma to be an effective leader. And Banks is just appalling and always was.

David, as I have said on another thread the Epson voters are not stupid. National needs a stable long term coalition partner to the right of centre. They know ACT as well as Don Brash and John Banks. I know Colin Craig. He is a good person and I would not say anything bad about him. The Conservative Party is basically a Christian Party. There is nothing wrong with that but Christian party members do not have a good record in NZ of working together. I would say worst than ACT. Aside from the Greens ACT is the only minor that has managed a change of leadership.

Given ACT’s current problems I agree with you on the 5% but it could get a total of 4 or 5 MPs. If it gets 5 MPs if has a very good chance of being around a long time. There are a new generation of young potential leaders. David Seymour will be no 5 with John Boscawen’s retirement. Would you not agree he would make a good future leader?

Do not write ACT off yet David.

The media and the lefties love to write Act off and have tried to do so nearly every election since the party was formed! All this publicity reminds their supporters to vote for them and not Labour Lite! I notice after taking a hit on iPredict that Act is rebounding – gave me a chance to buy back in – thanks all you doubters!

If Parliament does indeed cost $7500 per minute http://darrenrickard.blogspot.com/2009/05/labour-racks-up-7500-per-minute-outrage.html then Rodney’s refusal to do a goodbye speech x 20 minutes at $150,000 saved the taxpayer far more than his trip cost.

Think about it.

Who honestly cares if a person uses a pseudonym. There are many, many good reasons not to use your real name on an internet debate site/blog. Besides, it’s an ad hominem anyway – whether or not they use their real name is irrelevant to whether they are right or wrong, or whether their post is valuable or not. If their post is terrible, say as much, but the pseudonym attack is ridiculous and overused.

I thought Don was great at the time of his Orewa speeches and he really seemed to connect with a sizeable chunk of voters who were understandably concerned about the direction that this country is going in. But why oh why did he try to use ACT as the vehicle for his political resurgence? Don’s natural ground has now been occupied by the Conservative party, leaving ACT in disarray and Don looking like a bitter loser. Not a happy prospect for the future, I suspect.

Please explain. I have been trying to find Conservative Party policy on the retention of race based seat without success. I beleive that support retention. If that is the case then there is a big difference. In any case ACT still has very good chances in Epsom whereas the Conservative Party in unlikely to win a seat or reach 5%.

There is of course no guarantee Banksie will win Epsom but have you seen the questions asked? I have not. The type of question can affect the results of a poll.

If ACT is elected in any numbers they will definitely be relevant again. There are a number of young candidates in the top ten who will be MPs in 2014 and 1or 2 who could make this time if enough people are concerned about important issues like the ETS.
