Campaigning in Wellington for New Plymouth

October 10th, 2011 at 9:00 am by David Farrar

Whale Oil has a photo of Andrew Little leading a protest on Lambton Quay. Wow he must be super-confident of his chances in New Plymouth, if he has time to campaign in Wellington.

It’s not even clear if Andrew is a full-time candidate. Most candidates who want to win a seat off an incumbent will spent six to nine months working full-time in the seat. The EPMU website lists Andrew as remaining on the staff, as special counsel. I presume that takes up a bit of time also.

Or maybe Andrew is positioning himself for a by-election in Wellington, such as Rongotai or Hutt South?

I guess he’s got to be on the staff at the EPMU so he can keep pulling in the $$$.

I doubt Full Moon King will ever relinquish Rongotai. She will have to be pushed after defeat in November, otherwise the trougher will stay.

And he’s breaking the law in doing so; Labour has been warned that the use of their imitation stop signs alongside roads breaches transport regulations.

Hilarious, you have harnessed a media which has no bearing in geography to assist a candidate who is in the ‘wrong’ geographic location.

I mean, you might be putting this up to have a big old laugh, but you’ve just taken a protest against asset sales in Wellington and made it available to readers in New Plymouth. Way to go with giving Little the free publicity. I’m sure he’ll be very happy to be photographed so publicly opposing asset sales.

[DPF: Do you actually believe even 10% of the crap you spout?]

David, you are far too charitable. My ‘take’ is that he has given up on New Plymouth and is shoring up Grant Robertson’s position.

DPF – Charming response. 2 questions. 1) Did you just publish a photo of Andrew Little campaigning against asset sales on your very popular blog?
    2) Do people in New Plymouth read this blog?

Simple yes or no answers will suffice.

[DPF: You do like pushing shit up hill. The people of New Plymouth are well aware Labour is against asset sales. John Key announced his policy back in January. Since then Labour has dropped further in the polls.

What people in provincial areas will not like is a candidate who doesn't even live there, not even bothering to move there and campaign full-time there.

But hey I hope Labour listens to your wonderful advice and continues to campaign for provincial seats from Wellington. If they do, maybe they can get into the teens]

Labour does have some stupid people, but I doubt Little was ever stupid enough to think he would win New Plymouth. He’d have to get about 3000 National voters to give him their electorate vote, against the new incumbent – and that’s without the swing to National that the polls predict. So yes, one has to suspect that running in NP was never more than a sham. And suspect that his real target is Rongotai.

To give Little credit, he was moving counsel for a candidate in an admission ceremony at the High Court in Wellington on Friday. From personal experience, it is a great honour to be a part of someone’s admission to the bar. Perhaps the real reason for his visit to the Capital. In any event, he was back out door knocking in New Plymouth at 8am on Saturday morning. As a New Plymouth voter I don’t have any intention on voting for Little but think he deserves a bit of slack on this one.

Cheers Nick, a New Plymouth voter who reads this blog. And apparently he isn’t campaigning out of Wellington, but in NP after all. Rather blows apart your theory DPF doesn’t it?
And before you ask, no, I’m not an Andrew Little fan at all, I just find a lot of the negative campaigning on this blog rather silly.

So why do you feel compelled to come here and challenge the blog-host then awb? I avoid places that I regard as “silly”.

LITTLE Andrew, aka 3 Hats, had his young acolytes out and about in the rural areas north of NP recently.

Many “earthy” farmer types told the Year 12 kiddies to indulge in a bit of sex and travel.

The only votes he can possibly get are the urban-socialist-troughers associated with the NPDC Mayor.

So why was he the one who drew the short straw to direct those idiots making fools of themselves in Central Wellington?
