So, where is the vision from any of the parties? Its not ALL about the economy, stupid.
Having to look at the blown up image of a bloated gargoyle every night on my way home (The name Dalzell is below it) I have been looking for some sign of an opposing National party candidate in my electorate.
Given that most typical Labour voters took up their benefits and, with heaps of whinging and whining moved to Jafaville I had thought a National campaign would be prominent but until yesterday I hadn’t sighted a single National candidate billboard/poster.
I finally found one yesterday.
It was defaced (literally – someone had cut out the face) so I still don’t know who I will be voting for.
Q+A continues in it’s mission to have the least balanced or thoughtful “expert panel” : Deborah Coddington (!), Jon Johannsson, and John fricking Pagani??
David Parker came across really well on Q+A. He was much better than Steven Joyce..Joyce’s smirking , his body language and his endless”going forwards” really let him down. To say nothing of bringing out a paper with a list on it. Who are his advisers?
Article on Stuff notes that the Gweens have delivered a ‘bottom line’ demand for any deals after the election. Great – they can consign themselves to the opposition benches for another few years at least.
Why should any party have the gall to announce a ‘bottom line” / “non negotiable policy” when the reality is that the vast majority of the electorate has already rejected their policies? Why should any party that has electoral support of (say) 8%, expect to be able to dump their demands onto the 92% of the electorate who has rejected their policies?
Reason #2853 to dump MMP at the earliest opportunity.
Not quite sure what Israel the US/UK were ever thinking, appointing this guy to that role. What pray tell did they think was going to happen?
Elaycee, the completely mental thing is: if they have to select a bottom line, why don’t they select one that would make a blind bit of difference, instead of something idiotic like country of origin food labelling – what does that do, for anyone? Der. Usual Gween thinking.

Agree – food labelling does nothing. Nada. Zip. The poor Gweens used to be a party that focused on environmental issues and even a moron could identify with their ideals. (Well, most morons – some would struggle). But their latest strategy is to have their retiring pig cage campaigner trying to gain traction on a total non-event issue. Perhaps their next great idea will be to have all manufacturers add a compulsory MRP shield on every product sold? Or a plan to convert static electricity from carpet so it can harnessed as a renewable energy resource?
adze (9:05am): “Q+A continues in it’s mission to have the least balanced or thoughtful “expert panel” : Deborah Coddington (!), Jon Johannsson, and John fricking Pagani??”
…but you have to admit that Jonny Johansson’s perm looks a treat!
I bought some fruit and vegetables yesterday: 7 oranges, 8 truss tomatoes, 3 lemons, a couple of large sweet potatoes, a red capsicum, a head of brocolli, 3 courgettes, and a 1.5kg bag of NZ Rose apples – total cost $18.40. And we are being told fruit and veg. are prohibitively expensive!
Euthanasia
Yes
Marijuana legalised and taxed
For medical purposes only

Yes. Or if they claim to be a charity, treat them the same as other charities. http://www.listener.co.nz/commentary/the-god-dividend/
Elimination of WFF in conjunction with a tax free threshold on income and a higher minimum wage
Yes, yes, no
Removal of prayer in parliament

A Republic of New Zealand.
Not important…
AGW scientist alarmist who promoted the polar-bear extinction bollocks which millions of weak-minded people immediately fell for in a swoon of “Awwwwwwwwwwwws,” is being asked to take a polygraph test by US investigators.
Yes. Or if they claim to be a charity, treat them the same as other charities.
That’s what we do already OA so that’s good, isn’t it.
I think Jack your policy on churches as businesses is flawed, in that the reality is, hardly any churches operate like Destiny, which seems to be what you would have in mind, were one to be thinking that churches in NZ are anything like businesses, in any way.
So that’s a shame for your policy, isn’t it, for it would have a most deleterious effect, upon all the charity work that does go on, with almost every church, in NZ. And do you really want to do that, Jack?
Does Meturi ever shut her face? Mad as a meat axe that one. Pagani thought she was amazing. Well fuck me who would be surprised.
200 000 more home to be insulated. she wants. Now I have a couple that would be nice to do but I haven’t got the cash so no it won’t happen until I do so you taxpayers need not worry on my behalf.
Worse though is that she either ignored or failed to comprehend a report a day or so back that says that the program is currently running short of 120,000 house to insulate.
Like the global warmers and carbon freaks they are the espouse on about stuff they don’t know anything about.
They use “false evidence appearing real.” or FEAR.
Turei was simply reciting the same things she has been reciting at candidate meetings. She is going to pay the poor and tax everyone else to get “equality” – I think there’s another word for it.
Provided that the churches operating as charities were allowed to continue what they are doing what’s the problem? If they are giving away their riches or even the return on their riches then obviously they should not pay tax but why should the general taxpayers subsidise the building of cathedrals or the running of your God’s public relations arm?
For that matter why should they not pay local body rates on commercial land because they can declare such a ‘place of worship’?
200 000 more home to be insulated. she wants. Now I have a couple that would be nice to do but I haven’t got the cash so no it won’t happen until I do so you taxpayers need not worry on my behalf.
Didn’t she claim that this would create 10,000 jobs? I was thinking to myself, that a ‘job’ is not insulating 20 houses. That’s a couple of months work.
Party politics is limiting when like me you don’t support all the policies of any one political party.
And only like some policies across all the parties, but not one parties policies overall.
We should have a electoral system where you can vote for the policies you like from each party, instead of being limited to voting for one particular political party itself.
Provided that the churches operating as charities were allowed to continue what they are doing what’s the problem? If they are giving away their riches or even the return on their riches then obviously they should not pay tax but why should the general taxpayers subsidise the building of cathedrals or the running of your God’s public relations arm?
There isn’t a problem nasska. That’s what I’m saying. As far as I’m aware, my church is funded from donations by its members, we don’t get any govt subsidies, whatsoever. I may be wrong but I haven’t heard of any.
We are registered as a charity simply because that is in fact what the organisation I belong to, is about.
There seems to be some mis-conception out there that all most churches do is receive taxpayer funds and spend it on nothing but shoving G’d's word down people’s unwilling throats. Sorry to be crude but that’s what some people seem actually to think.
Now this conception vs reality is a wide, vast chasm, a bit like the one on The Golden Child, with Eddie Murphy. It’s so vast I’m not sure where to begin disabusing those who hold to such a belief.
Furthermore the Parish I belong to does pay local body rates on its land, so another misconception smashed.
You miss my point….if your or any other church uses its income for charitable purposes then obviously it is a charity & should be tax exempt. I know that churches don’t receive government subsidies other than any which would normally be paid to any other organisation, eg Presbyterian Support Services in their care roles. The day that one cent of my tax payments are used for evangelical purposes will be the day I march in the street.
BUT, if they are in the business of building up assets such as land or buildings I fail to see how such activities are different from those of a (taxable) investment company. It would seem that at the moment, the minute a church registers as a charity all its activities are ignored by the IRD & at least in some cases, local bodies.
BUT, if they are in the business of building up assets such as land or buildings I fail to see how such activities are different from those of a (taxable) investment company.
Why do you care about the balance sheet of a registered charity? Why is it important to you? If I interpret you correctly you seem to be saying if a registered charity happens to be a church and they have a healthy balance sheet (which BTW, most Parish’s don’t, at least in my own diocese I know that for a fact), then they should pay some special tax that no other registered charity in a similar position has to pay.
Is that what you’re saying, or am I still missing the point?
I bought some fruit and vegetables yesterday: 7 oranges, 8 truss tomatoes, 3 lemons, a couple of large sweet potatoes, a red capsicum, a head of brocolli, 3 courgettes, and a 1.5kg bag of NZ Rose apples – total cost $18.40. And we are being told fruit and veg. are prohibitively expensive!
But that’s one packet of cigarettes! It is everyone’s right on the DPB to be able to smoke as many cigarettes as they like.
I might add with the insurance issue churches now face, some buildings may be uninsurable and others may just have to be closed, since they cannot be strengthened sufficiently to whatever the new codes are going to be.
So in many cases, those very same balance sheets are now in a completely reversed position than they were about a year ago.
How the ex-Green MP Sue Bradford, Labour / National supported anti-smacking law really works out –
A child recently seen assaulting a younger brother in a school yard was told he couldn’t do that. The response was his mother had told him to do it.
Further investigation reveals several parents in the school now do this – require older children to punish younger brothers or sisters, to get around the law that prevents them from assaulting their children themselves.
So the anti-smacking law has not worked in these cases – it has in fact spread the violence to further members of the family and probably entrenched it deeper in the psyche of those involved.
“Teach the children well …”
Look at this indulged spoilt fat prick and his self-entitled mother. Absolute trash.
She should have let her son plead guilty instead of automatically go into attack mode. Serves her right for using her position to get the arrogant loser a job he doesn’t have the frontal lobe for.
To my way of thinking a charity distributes largess to the poor & deserving. If this is what an organisation, religious or not, does then by definition it has to be a charity & well deserving of a tax free status.
The essential & primary roll of a church, however, is promotion of its own version of faith. It is this part of its raison d’etre that does not fit my understanding of charity.
If you think of them separately as a religious organisation & a religious organisation doing charitable work it makes sense.
RKBee: We should have a electoral system where you can vote for the policies you like from each party
We need something like the current system but with a much more interactive democratic process right through the term. That’s exactly what I’m setting up in Dunedin, there is interest from other electorates so it should spread out and then up the political system.
We can’t wait for the old school politicians to give away their power, we have to make our own power happen.
How do you feel about paying for Liabore’s election bribe to win back central Auckland – their latest policy release today being to spend $2b on looney Len’s inner city rail loop?
Manolo – that’s because he’s very capable, sensible, and experienced in government, unlike his company on that debate (who weren’t so flash at debating either).
tdm – Labour are suggesting money is moved from road building to a loopy project.

nasska this is the widely-held mis-conception to which I previously referred. Disappointing to find you’re in that gene pool on this.
See, an essential part of being a Christian, is one’s own ministry. Chistianity is based on hope, faith and charity, charity being interpreted by a Christian to mean love, genuine love, for all others, in recognition of the fact that G-d loves all of us, likewise. Every Christian therefore has a personal ministry to fulfil in emulation of the charitable works Jesus performed on Earth, and to some, that drives them to spend their entire lives in places like New Guinea, living in a particular area, befriending the local people. And if the local people didn’t want them there, they wouldn’t let them stay, for their entire lives, would they. Others who aren’t called to that particular role, behave differently. I could give you literally hundreds of specific examples of things I know of that people in my parish do in the way of helping people all over the Wellington region but I shan’t, since it would embarrass them.
Sadly, fewer and fewer people are becoming acquainted with religious ways by having lived them at some point in their lives. It’s a shame for this is the reason why there are an increasing number of people in society who have no idea what living a religion is all about. Instead this pool of people seem to think it’s all about driving up in our flash cars for our weekly dose of childishly simplistic self-righteous propaganda and then charging back out again to shove G-d down people’s throats a bit more, which of course everyone knows, is what every single Christian does all the time and nothing but.
This is sad. Too bad for that segment of the human pool, for they miss the whole point of the most critical fundamental aspect of human life on earth. Ah well. Satan aka the Slanderer and the Deceiver, lives and breathes, doesn’t he. Shame so many people make his job so very easy though, isn’t it.
thedavincimode, I do feel it is an insult to the intelligence of people, but knowing the voter’s average IQ and the “gimme-more” mentality so prevalent these days, I have little hope it will be seen like the bribe it is.
Each country gets the government it deserves. If despicable socialist Labour wins the next election is because a large part of the population deserves it, which confirms that at times democracy is simply a statistical error.
Phil, if you care to look at FB pages on Occupy Dunedin, Occupy Otago Octagon and Take Back The Octagon you will see that there is growing annoyance at the increasingly open Mana and ISO campaigning happening at the Octagon occupation.
Jess Gibbs-Wilson: I was in full support of this occupation but no longer will. I feel the Mana party are hijacking the whole movement.
Callum Turner: That is another sad part: the supporters who have not been down there have no idea what is happening! It is deception and I somehow doubt that those who donated to the cause did not expect to be funding a free campaign for the Mana party?
I’d like to see the end of this false belief that ‘Capitalism is a complete system of government’ which will take care of everyone if we just let it run free?
Capitalism IS an essential part of our civilization but it is NOT the most important part.
The government has to set guidelines and boundaries for businesses to follow as they do battle with each other for profits.
If the Gov. lets every business owner do ‘whatever they want’ then business owners are forced to do ‘whatever they can’ in order to remain competitive and it becomes a (metaphorical) blood bath where everyone is killing each other for market share.
In a free market the employees become cannon fodder as big business smashes civilization into oblivion.
Sure, after a period of tight regulations deregulation gives ten years or so of stunning growth, but this growth is very unstable (because the poor become too poor, duh) and a major economic depression follows.
The only reason we are not currently in a major depression, imho, is because China has maintained tight regulations on their economy and therefore their growth has remained stable right through the financial crisis in the U.S. and Europe.
phil, with trepidation, I ask, can you pray explain specifically, with specific facts, precisely why you think Len’s loop is going to work in terms of reducing Auckland’s congestion, with respect to the value it will provide, vs the cost of it.
Why do you think that it’s any good at all, phil?
What about the fact only 40% of Aucklanders work in the CBD? Does that mean anything to you, in terms of it being a heavy factor weighing against the business case?
Please don’t just give me a superficial meandering of your emotional position, on this phil, if you care to respond. If you do respond at all, pray do so precisely as I’ve asked, and if you can’t or don’t want to do it that way, pray don’t respond, at all.
There are genuine people in Christian congregations & I’ve never stated otherwise. As you opine many do good works, very often anonymously. There are also those who attend every Sunday because it is the place to be seen which is probably why they also join service clubs & serve on school committees. Their “faith” has more to do with establishing their place in society.
None of which makes an iota’s worth of difference to the part a church plays (as an organisation) in 1)charitable works & 2) administering & promoting the faith. They are separate rolls.

Yes. Or if they claim to be a charity, treat them the same as other charities.

Sanitarium is a business, owned by the 7th Day Adventist Church. It does not pay tax on its profits. It competes with private businesse that do. The private businesses may do some charitable work or giving, for which they can claim a tax deduction. Sanitarium should be treated the same. Simply “donating” its profits to its ownwe is not charitable giving.
Up the road from mme, the local Baptist Church runs a kindergarten, in opposition to a privately owned one. The private owner pays tax, the Baptist one does not. Further, the private owner pays rates on his land, the church does not.
Then there’s the likes of the Sallies and StVdeP, competing with taxpaying, priveatly owned, second hand buisinesses.
As for the “charity work”, a recent US study showed that over 80% of siupposed charity work was withing the church, eg painting the hall, mowing the minister’sd lawn, etc.
I am involved with quite a bit of community work in my town, at not one community event I have worked on have I seen the presence of the above mentioned Baptist Church. Not once.
There isn’t a problem nasska. That’s what I’m saying. As far as I’m aware, my church is funded from donations by its members, we don’t get any govt subsidies, whatsoever. I may be wrong but I haven’t heard of any.
if your church owns property, as most do, and does not pay rates, then your church is getting a government subsidy.
We are registered as a charity simply because that is in fact what the organisation I belong to, is about.
No. Your church will be registered as a charity because a flaw in the Charities Act sees “promotion of religion” as a charitable purpose, which it clearly is not.
Furthermore the Parish I belong to does pay local body rates on its land, so another misconception smashed.
Further, the private owner pays rates on his land, the church does not.
How do you know that, Jack.
I’d love to see proof of that.
Certainly Jack. I currently serve on the vestry at my Parish which is St Albans in Eastbourne and as such I get to see the accounts every single month and I can advise for the last four or so years which is length of time I’ve been on, there has always been a rates entry as an outgoing expense item for both the vicarage and also the church and hall. Now if you’d like to make an OIA request Jack, I’m sure you could confirm that, if you wished to.
No. Your church will be registered as a charity because a flaw in the Charities Act sees “promotion of religion” as a charitable purpose, which it clearly is not.
Jack I just explained above all Christians do charitable work, what about that don’t you understand. Genuine, helping people not shoving G-d down people’s throats just helping people through charitable work and donations, all the time. Does this or does this not, make a church just like any other charity which does the same thing? The fact is Jack, all of my parishes religious activities are funded purely out of our own pockets. Our religious activity is entirely self-funded and is over and above our charitable work, not instead of.
I really don’t know where you get your ideas from about how this all works.
P.S. I don’t care if you haven’t ever seen the Baptists at any community event. I doubt you would have noticed them even if they were there. Why you think your own observation on this is of any value in assessing reality, I don’t know.
The star of Michele Bachmann, who wants to ride the energy of the Tea Party all the way to the White House, is dimming quickly – at least in the key state of New Hampshire, where her entire team has resigned in a huff over the “cruel” and “dismissive” way they were being treated by the congresswoman’s national campaign team.
While personnel struggles and high-dudgeon walk-outs are hardly uncommon within presidential campaigns, few can remember a candidate being ditched by every one of their hires in a state, particularly one as important as New Hampshire, which holds the first Republican primary on 10 January.
She must be a real bitch.
I wonder how her campaign team are planning to spin it?
“..phil, with trepidation, I ask, can you pray explain specifically, with specific facts, precisely why you think Len’s loop is going to work in terms of reducing Auckland’s congestion, with respect to the value it will provide, vs the cost of it…”
there is only one basic fact/choice to consider:..aucklanders..!..would you prefer an inner-city rail-loop…
..or would you rather bow to the dictates of the road-lobby..
.(.who have key/nact as their personal pocket-rocket…)
and have a holiday-highway up north…?
(it’s not difficult..eh..?.for mosr of us..
..and as the eventual/election-day plunge/collapse in national support in auckland will tell/show you..
..eh..?..)
“..What about the fact only 40% of Aucklanders work in the CBD? ..”
are you aware of what percentage of aucklanders have holiday homes on the north coast..?
..there you are..was the answer ‘unemotional’ enough for you…?
..just focussing on the facts..
and didn’t joyce look already beaten…on q& a…?
..his body-language showed him wanting to curl up into a ball/stick his thumb in his mouth..and whimper for ‘mummy!’..
Have a look at what this 9 megaton city-destroyer looked like. I’ve often found the following analogy on this interesting: that in WW II the allies dropped about 3.7 million tons of ordinance which is only 3.7 megatons. And here it sits, just imagine it falling through the last thousand or so feet before it airburst over Moscow. Terrifying, isn’t it. I’ve often thought that every decade or so we need to force all the leaders with authorisation authority over the use of nuclear weapons, to witness a life explosion, close enough so they can feel the heat. I remember one of the Los Alamos scientists saying that was the disturbing thing. You could feel the heat rise and you weren’t sure if it was going to stop rising or not. I’d like to do that, but the Gweens won’t let me. It’s not fair.
Er Jack, how would I know? If they are, is it the same subsidy other charitable operations get? If that’s the case, then is their level of charitable work any greator or lessor than any other charity engaged in similar work? Those are my questions Jack. Since I don’t know which Baptists you’re talking about I can’t answer, but maybe you can? Er…
Take your inercity rail loopy dream ball it up and go choo choo as you place it out of the sun
We don’t want it. lefty Len and the rest of the loopy greens want it choo choo
Auckland is not the central city its the whole region. most jafas only rarely go to town if ever. why should we pay and pay for loopy lefty social engineering that we do not want
Auckland is at present the 4th most desirable city to live in the world without trains .choo choo. if the loopy left get their way it will be the 100th
High-cost kangaroo of Qantas cannot continue, says Dick Smith.
I am amazed Qantas International is still in business. It’s a credit to everyone involved.
But it’s obvious that unless CEO Alan Joyce is allowed to make huge changes, the whole airline will go broke.
tristanb – require older children to punish younger brothers or sisters, to get around the law that prevents them from assaulting their children themselves.
What the hell. This doesn’t get around the law, no more than using a hitman to murder someone gets me off the hook!
Parents who do this need more severe punishment and are obviously stupid and nasty.
No, it doesn’t get around the law, but that doesn’t stop this happening because these stupid parents believe it does get them off – slightly creative, but stupid.
And it has taken a little while to show – authorities may still not be aware of this happening.
Pete George @ 12:19 pm thanks for the link Pete…
With the technology now, we should be able to vote on everything – all the government should be doing is facilitating what gets voted in. You get all the info on a tv channel and provided websites about the topics you are voting for (plus what you want to research yourself) and have all week to text or pc it in.
phil I’m not a fan of the holiday highway either, but I don’t understand your logic when you say it has to be one or the other. This allegation does not argue for or against the loop in any way. The holiday highway in other words is totally irrelevant to the question of whether or not the loop is worth what it will cost.
Der.
You merely breezed over my point about 40% but this is the killer phil for any logical rational real-world argument about whether or not the loop is value for money. It doesn’t stack up, in other words, phil, primarily because of that fact. It’s a fucked idea, in other words.
Nothing you said above attacks or diminishes that point in any way. I suggest you try again.
I said a month or two ago that I’d read an allegation Obama was going to whip up wace hatwed which is a highly dangerous strategy given the parlous and volatile state of the large poor black populations in the cities.
So now we see the first evidence of such a campaign emerge. His opening gambit: the Occupiers.
And having lit the fire of this resentment, Obama is now furiously fanning the flames. In a recent interview with ABC News’ Jake Tapper, Obama said, “… what I’ve said is that I understand the frustrations that are being expressed in those [Wall Street] protests,” and that he wants them to “… know that we understand their struggles, we are on their side.”
He’s on their side? What side is that, exactly? Consider what one speaker at the Los Angeles branch of the “occupation” forces told a crowd of sympathetic protesters:
“Ultimately, the bourgeoisie won’t go without violent means. Revolution! Yes, revolution that is led by the working class. Long live revolution! Long live socialism!”
And that sentiment is widely shared among the protesters. According to a survey conducted by pollster Doug Schoen, a full 31 percent of the Wall Street occupiers “… would support violence to advance their agenda,” the substance of which consists primarily of “… opposition to free-market capitalism and support for radical redistribution of wealth.”
RKBee, I agree it should be much more comprehensive, but no one in Wellington wants their power diminished. That’s why we decided to get it working at an electorate level and push it out and up from there.
It has partialy been working at times already, the recent video surveillance bill under urgency involved a concerted online effort to contribute. That proved how it can work, it just needs to be expaned and made a standard part of the procedure.
Incidentally, it says a lot about Obama doesn’t it, when he adopts this kind of strategy. There is an interesting observation from history that its often people from outside a country who portray themselves as patriots, who do the most damage.
People like Napolean. A Corsican. Hitler, an Austrian. Stalin, a Georgian. Obama, an Indonesian.
That’s right, he’s Indonesian, he’s not African. You study his face. By all accounts so far, Obama is behaving destructively on all cylinders. I’m not suggesting he’ll turn out quite as badly for the world as those other three did, but it doesn’t appear to be heading for sunshine and lollipop territory, either. Does it.
Wonder how much tax the occupiers have paid in their working lifetimes to date? Easy to be envious, isn’t it. Much easier than actually contributing, like the 53%.
reid 10:55. That’s good news. It’s only the second time I’ve been to a MSM site this month. Notice the plug for the ‘green’ viewpoint in the last paragraph? I only follow links to those sites.
Manolo – that’s because he’s very capable, sensible, and experienced in government, unlike his company on that debate (who weren’t so flash at debating either).
Ha!
Pete I am sure I am not the only one growing tired of you using this blog as an outlet pro – UF propaganda.
Peter Dunne has zero credibility on every topic apart from brylcreem.
I’ve just finished reading “reid’s” 3.11pm link. It presents all sides of the welfare trap argument well but leaves me convinced that the wheels fell off the system at the same time ‘benefits’ became ‘entitlements’.
It’s only a one word vs another but the effects are frightening.
It’s only a one word vs another but the effects are frightening.
Aren’t they nasska, and very evident, today.
The importance of accurate labeling really, isn’t it. Perhaps if we renamed whichever agency pays the dole to the Ministry of Medicant Management, there’d be less of them.
That’s because he (Dunne) is very capable, sensible, and experienced in government…
God help us from that level of “experience”. Sorry PG, but in my book Dunne is a political prostitute of the highest order, whom I would love to see defeated in Ohariu-Belmont. I’d choose Chauvel over the trougher than leads UF.
LATEST: National would spend $1 billion of the proceeds from asset sales to modernise and “transform” schools over the next five years Prime Minister John Key says.
Speaking to about 1000 party faithful at the formal launch of National’s election campaign in Auckland today, Key said the party would use the $5-7 billion cash from the sale of minority shares in four energy companies and Air NZ to set up a Future Investment Fund.
that should fuck up the teachers and wanna bee from Labour.
Labour on the other hand has promised Aucklanders a pain i9n the belly.
If Labour is elected government they will pay $1.2 billion or half of the cost of the proposed inner Auckland rail loop, Labour leader Phil Goff told around 100 supporters at an open air party meeting today.
The loop, which would pass under the inner city street Goff held his meeting, is projected to cost $2.4 billion.
Auckland City would have to pay half, and a Goff lead government would pay the other half by cancelling a “holiday highway” north of Auckland.
reid says:- “People like Napolean. A Corsican. Hitler, an Austrian. Stalin, a Georgian. Obama, an Indonesian.”
Egad reid, bit early to start on the whiskey isn’t it? Corsica is part of France, Austria and Germany are like brother and sister, Georgia was annexed by the Russkies in the late 1800s and became part of the Soviet Union in 1917, and Obama was born in the USA. What difference does it make anyway?
>>”That’s right, he’s Indonesian, he’s not African. You study his face.”
Codswallop and balderdash reid. He has classical East African features. Think Kenyan distance runner.
And once again, even if he was born in Indonesia (which he definitely wasn’t), what difference would it make to his actual loyalties and character?
“Here’s a bit of good news: we can look forward to a sharp decline in poverty over the next two years…The reason fewer people will be poor is that poverty, these days, is defined as earning less than 60 per cent of median income. Although downturns are bad for everyone, including the destitute, wages are depreciating in real terms faster than state benefits. People dependent on welfare payments will be worse off in absolute terms, but their incomes will fall more slowly than those of working people. As the median wage drops, the poverty line drops with it.
Thus we see the absurdity of the Joseph Rowntree/IFS measure of poverty – the measure uncritically accepted by the BBC and most other media. I’ve remarked before that, by these metrics, policies that shift people from dependency into productive jobs are defined as ‘regressive’. Now we see that, by the same token, an absolute decline in Britain’s living standards means a reduction in poverty.”
Pretty sick for the left to think impoverishing people is a success. But that’s what happens when their favoured metric is cynically chosen to benefit themselves rather than those actually on the lower incomes.
If the Illuminati doesn’t exist, then how come this doco on Boystown, was banned and how come everything played out as it did, in this doco? And if you don’t know who the Illuminati are, it’s the people who do this kind of thing. Which apparently didn’t happen.
And once again, even if he was born in Indonesia (which he definitely wasn’t), what difference would it make to his actual loyalties and character?
Scott if you don’t understand the import of what I said above, I can’t help you. Secondly loyalties and character are shown only and I mean only, by action. That’s where I draw my conclusions on Obama from. Why don’t you want to discuss what he said about allegiance to the Occupiers?
All the bludger’s prediction are to be supported ….against.
Who gives a fig for the opinion of an addled, good-for-nothing, loser-in-life, miserable and pathetic individual?
phil my grammar is proper, not because I’m old, but because I’m educated. When you were robbing pharmacies, I was doing other things phil, and it shows.
Frankly.
So, you still haven’t added anything to justify your belief in the loop’s business case ergo (therefore) you don’t even know what it is, IMO.
So good day phil. I said I was somewhat trepidatious in my very first request and despite my precise explication and excruciating (to me) politeness toward you, you haven’t yet even said anything at all, about how the loop will add much much more than the costs of servicing the debt of $2B plus on the Auckland economy.
I lived in Auckland for 20+ years phil, from when I went to uni in 1981 till 2004. During that time I worked in Henderson, Manukau, Takapuna and Albany. I once had a uni holiday job in the CBD and I did plenty of consulting jobs with clients for months, in the CBD, but I never once went there for my employment, although one of my brothers does. But my point phil is that 60% travel from suburb from suburb and it’s not the CBD which is the issue it’s the arterial cross-overs between say Mt Eden and Henderson.
The loop does nothing to solve that reality. I’ve said for years, put in a survey with the rates bill and offer a small discount for completing it. Use it to find out and track over time, the suburb-suburb travel patterns and design bus routes accordingly. One huge problem phil is that so many people need to take their cars to work cause they often need to travel during the day. You will always have that demographic and they cannot use public transport. So you use the same survey to find out what they need, as well. Over time you have a very rich data source of city-wide travel patterns and wouldn’t that be handy.
I’ve never understood why they don’t do that and it’s a bit disappointing that Len apparently isn’t too bright and instead of selling that sensible and potentially hugely valuable and effective course of action, he instead focuses on a gaily coloured plastic bag, in the form of his idiotic flagship asset his very advocacy of, proves everyday to the wise, the folly of casting one’s vote, for that fool.
..and how is that nact gloating-triumphalism working out for ya..?
Actually phil, really well, thanks for asking. I’m personally having a great time gloating at all of you struggling lefties, desperate as you are, struggling to be heard in the midst of the good time glow of the RWC win and now the exciting campaign to come.
It’s excellent to me, that this election, the lefties appear to be perceived by voters as dirty, filthy, thieving little urchins, which of course is precisely what they are.
So yes, I’m gloating phil. Of course I am. Aren’t you as well?
“…You’ll notice if you’ve been paying attention to the war of propaganda that the 1% and their obedient lickspittles are going all out to frame the 99% VS. 1% showdown as a battle between Capitalists and Commies.
Capitalism of course being good, socialism bad.
I laugh every time I hear it – because logic and common sense just doesn’t support the spin.
What happens when a new 10,000 unit section 8 HUD complex is built in Chicago or Cleveland or Baltimore, wherever?
First thing the government does is borrow the money. Who do they borrow it from?
Bankers. Bankers love interest payments, bankers love socialism.
Next thing they do is take bids from construction companies to build it. Who builds it. The nation’s largest construction contractors. Construction contractors love high paying, built-by-the-lowest-bidder jobs. Construction companies love socialism.
Once the structure is built it must be made habitable. The place needs 10,000 stoves, 10,000 refrigerators, 20,000, ceiling fans 5 million miscellaneous electrical fixtures and about 1 million light bulbs.
Who provides all that stuff?
General Electric. General Electric loves socialism.
General Electric loves socialism so much it even went as far as buying the National Broadcasting Company in 1986 to sing its praises throughout the land 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
They love it even more when they don’t have to contribute to the socialist state by paying taxes.
Socialism is the last thing the 1% want to see driven out of America.
It makes them so much money.
The bankers are such fans of socialism that they have so far donated more money to the Obama re-election campaign than to all other Republican hopefuls combined, according to the Washington Post.
Those people don’t want to see and end to big government.
Big governments borrow money. And it isn’t just socialism, they love the full monty.
The last 20 years the Capitalists have been running into communist China as fast as their little feet can take them.
Odd for a bunch of dedicated Capitalists isn’t it?
The truth of the matter is the 1% don’t care either way.
They do whatever it takes to make money.
They don’t believe in Capitalism or communism.
They believe in interest.
Naked self serving interest… and money.
That’s all they believe in.
Their morals and beliefs are purely situational.
If your home sits on a parcel of land they need to build a warehouse for their communist made imports -
- they have the government force you out of it.
They tell you it’s all for the collective good of society that you got the boot.
Total by the book Karl Marx communism.
The sanctity of private property – they don‘t care.
As long as it’s not their property.
Talk about nationalizing one of their businesses and all of the sudden then it’s all about private property and freedom…
“..So yes, I’m gloating phil. Of course I am. Aren’t you as well?..”
what’s to gloat about..?
i am just watching what seems to be (the entirely predictable) unraveling of the nat-master plan..
..(this is why joyce was curled up for a quasimoto-rehearsal…he feels ill inside..’cos he is smart enough to know that you have probably already lost the election..)
..and as for /unraveling-campaign-evidence/developments..
..what do voters/punters remember about key and the rugby-victory..?
..keys’ grasping/clawing at/for mccaws hand..eh..?..(shown in glorious close-up/slow-mo on q&a this morning..)
“..holy powerful metaphor..!..batman..!”
..now that wasn’t how that was meant to go..eh..?
..then there is the polls showing only 14% want a bar of yr flogging-off-assets plans..eh..?
Oh goody
Just saw Sue Bradford and co piss all over democracy and free speech at the Nat policy launch.
Communists can’t help themselves
Lance, I saw that. And that is what we had in Parliament, undercover as an MP, wearing a veneer of civility and forcing through shit like the anti-smacking law. It’s ugly when the mask falls off isn’t it.
..and really reid..already so bereft of ideas/arguments the ad-hom is all you got..
phil my 40% argument which I raised in my very first post in our discussion today on this matter, has not yet been addressed by you, in any way.
According to the Kiwiblog Constitution, Rule 6:3:5:7 pertaining to lefties and their general treatment therein, it says:
“If any lefty (esp. phil) ever tries to obfuscate, prevaricate, avoid or refuse to answer a direct question, they shall be subject to any or all of the following:
(a) a verbal bollocking about how mental they are
(b) teasing and pointing
(c) something nasty involving cacti.”
So if I were you phil I’d think myself lucky that reid is only currently invoking sub-clause (a). (I bet you don’t think that phil, since you’re not that wise, but if I were you, I would.)
“..holy black hole of irrelevancy..!..batman..!..”
In true United Future “common sense” style PG no doubt thinks “If I am being attacked from the left wing and the right wing, then I am probably doing something right”.

nickb, I know I’m doing something right when I get recognition or praise, which actually happens a bit. And I know I’m getting close to the bone when people attack me rather than argue an alternate case. Or it’s just some political operator trying to diss to orders – I’ve had a fair bit of experience at differentiating motives for personal crap.
If you had bothered to take notice of what I’ve said rather than just grizzle you’d know I don’t care about left or right, that’s a nonsense. I’m in a centre-ish party and have many moderate views but that doesn’t mean I see everything in the centre as good and everything else as bad, that’s last century political nonsense. The political future is in assesssing any issue (or oportunity) on it’s merits and not jump to a conclusion based on some self applied label.
Peter Dunne gets a lot of stick because he has actually been a very successful politician. No one will agree with everything he’s said or done – I don’t, and in fact he admits mistakes too, unlike many politicians – but anyone who knows the realities of politics will acknowledge his ability to get as much done as is possible given the mandate he has.
It tends to be fringe believers who think democracy should deliver them total freedom to do everything to suit their minority ideaology that get frustrated at someone who is successful in the mainstream.

Two couples had arranged to spend a long weekend at a country house hotel. On the drive to the hotel they shared a car and during the two hour journey they agreed that, to spice up the weekend, they would try a little partner swapping.
Having checked into the hotel each went on to the bedroom with their new partner. The sex started immediately. It was hot and heavy. After half an hour one of the men turned to his new partner and said.
“That was terrific. We should have done this years ago. I wonder how the girls are getting on”?
black paul: Dunne said on Vote Chat recently (I think that’s where I heard it) that he regretted voting against civil unions. That’s backed up by this:
Dunne seems to genuinely regret the worst excesses of anti-gay rhetoric which characterised his now gone party team mates. “Sometimes you wish you could wind the clock back and do things a little differently, but you don’t have that luxury always.”
One dismal rainy night in New Zealand, a Taxi driver spotted an arm waving
from the shadows of an alley . Even before he rolled to a stop, a figure leaped into the cab slamming the door.
Checking his rear view mirror as he pulled away, he was startled to see a naked Sue B sitting in the back seat.
“Where to?” he stammered.
“K road,” answered the woman.
“You got it,” he said, taking another long glance in the mirror.
Sue caught him staring at her and asked, “Just what are you
looking at?”
“Well madam,” he answered, “I was just wondering how you’ll pay your
fare.”
Sue spread her legs, put her feet up on the front seat, smiled
at the driver, and said, “Does this answer your question?”
Still looking in the mirror, the cabbie asked, “Have you got anything
smaller?”
Bereal walked into a bar, ordered a drink, and started watching a news item featuring man on a ledge of a high building threatening to jump.
The bartender, who’d seen the news report before said, “I’ll bet you $50 he’s going to jump.”
So Bereal took the bet and slapped down a $50 bill on the bar. Predictably, the man on the ledge jumped to his death. The bartender picked up the $50 bill but then, realizing that he’d taken advantage of a poor, dumb Bereal, his conscience got the better of him, and he decided to confess.
So he said, “Look, I’m going to give you back your money. I have to admit that I saw that news report before.”
“That’s O.K.,” said Bereal, “I saw it before too, but I really didn’t think he was gonna do it again!”
Someone mistakenly left the cages open in the Reptile House at the zoo and there were snakes slithering all over the place.
Frantically, the keeper tried everything, but he couldn’t get the slippery animals back into their cages. Finally, he yelled, “Quick, call Peter Dunne!”
“Peter Dunne? Why?”
“We need someone who speaks their language.” Was the reply.
Lens mother was working in the kitchen listening to her Len playing with his new electric train in the living room.
She heard the train stop and her son saying, “All of you sons of bitches who want off, get the hell off now… cause this is the last stop! And all of you sons of bitches who are getting on, get your asses in the train cause we’re going down the tracks”.
The horrified mother went in and told Len, “We don’t use that kind of language in this house. Now, I want you to go to your room and you are to stay there for two hours. When you come out, you may play with your train… but I want you to use nice language.”
Two hours later, Len came out of the bedroom and resumed playing with his train. Soon the train stopped and the mother heard Len say… “All passengers, please remember to take all of your belongings with you. We thank you and hope your trip was a pleasant one. We hope you will ride with us again soon.”
She heard her little darling continue… “for those of you just boarding, remember there is no smoking in the train. We hope you will have a pleasant and relaxing journey with us today.”
As the mother began to smile, Len added, “For those of you who are pissed off about the two hour delay, please see the bitch in the kitchen…”
Winston Peters and Haley Westenra were on holiday in Fiji when they got to talking. (Haley somewhat reluctantly)
“Did I tell you that I’m only here because my house burned down and everything got destroyed by the fire.” Slurred Winston, “The insurance company paid for everything, so I decided to take a holiday.”
“That’s quite a coincidence,” remarked the sweet and innocent Haley. “I’m here because my house and all my belongings were destroyed by the earthquake. My insurance company, too, paid for everything, and because I sang so nicely at the RWC final, the NZRU shouted me a ticket to Fiji to take my mind off things.”
There was a brief pause, and then a puzzled Winston Peters asked, “I don’t get it. How do you start an earthquake?”

Taking his seat in chambers, Mayor John Banks faced the opposing lobbyists. “I have been presented by both of you with a bribe,” John Banks began. Both lobbysits squirmed uncomfortably.
Banks continued, “You, F E Smith, gave me $15,000. And you, David Garrett, gave me $10,000.”
Mayor John Banks reached in his pocket a pulled out a check, which he handed to F E Smith. “Now, then, I’m returning $5,000 difference, and we are going to decide this case solely on its merits.”

I am otherwise happy with you as a wife, and I sincerely hope you will not be hurt or offended to learn that by the time you receive this letter, I will be at the Grand Hotel with my 18-year-old teaching assistant. Dear Husband,
You, too, are 54 years old, and by the time you receive this letter, I will be at the Breakwater Hotel with the 18-year-old pool boy. Being the brilliant mathematician that you are, you can easily appreciate the fact that 18 goes into 54 a lot more times than 54 goes into 18.

So that’s a shame for your policy, isn’t it, for it would have a most deleterious effect, upon all the charity work that does go on, with almost every church, in NZ. And do you really want to do that, Jack?

Provided that the churches operating as charities were allowed to continue what they are doing what’s the problem? If they are giving away their riches or even the return on their riches then obviously they should not pay tax but why should the general taxpayers subsidise the building of cathedrals or the running of your God’s public relations arm?
For that matter why should they not pay local body rates on commercial land because they can declare such a ‘place of worship’?

There seems to be some mis-conception out there that all most churches do is receive taxpayer funds and spend it on nothing but shoving G’d's word down people’s unwilling throats. Sorry to be crude but that’s what some people seem actually to think.
Now this conception vs reality is a wide, vast chasm, a bit like the one on The Golden Child, with Eddie Murphy. It’s so vast I’m not sure where to begin disabusing those who hold to such a belief.

I might add with the insurance issue churches now face, some buildings may be uninsurable and others may just have to be closed, since they cannot be strengthened sufficiently to whatever the new codes are going to be.
So in many cases, those very same balance sheets are now in a completely reversed position than they were about a year ago.

How the ex-Green MP Sue Bradford, Labour / National supported anti-smacking law really works out –
A child recently seen assaulting a younger brother in a school yard was told he couldn’t do that. The response was his mother had told him to do it.
Vote:Further investigation reveals several parents in the school now do this – require older children to punish younger brothers or sisters, to get around the law that prevents them from assaulting their children themselves.
So the anti-smacking law has not worked in these cases – it has in fact spread the violence to further members of the family and probably entrenched it deeper in the psyche of those involved.

If you think of them separately as a religious organisation & a religious organisation doing charitable work it makes sense.

nasska this is the widely-held mis-conception to which I previously referred.

The only reason we are not currently in a major depression, imho, is because China has maintained tight regulations on their economy and therefore their growth has remained stable right through the financial crisis in the U.S. and Europe.
We are lucky, not smart right now.

Not once.

No, it doesn’t get around the law, but that doesn’t stop this happening because these stupid parents believe it does get them off – slightly creative, but stupid.

phil I’m not a fan of the holiday highway either, but I don’t understand your logic when you say it has to be one or the other.

So now we see the first evidence of such a campaign emerge. His opening gambit: the Occupiers.

Does it.

LATEST: National would spend $1 billion of the proceeds from asset sales to modernise and “transform” schools over the next five years Prime Minister John Key says.
Speaking to about 1000 party faithful at the formal launch of National’s election campaign in Auckland today, Key said the party would use the $5-7 billion cash from the sale of minority shares in four energy companies and Air NZ to set up a Future Investment Fund.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/5877791/Asset-sales-for-Future-Investment-Fund
that should fuck up the teachers and wanna bee from Labour.

The report showing this happy event:

Pretty sick for the left to think impoverishing people is a success. But that’s what happens when their favoured metric is cynically chosen to benefit themselves rather than those actually on the lower incomes.

phil my grammar is proper, not because I’m old, but because I’m educated.

Talk about nationalizing one of their businesses and all of the sudden then it’s all about private property and freedom…

nickb, I know I’m doing something right when I get recognition or praise, which actually happens a bit.
It tends to be fringe believers who think democracy should deliver them total freedom to do everything to suit their minority ideaology that get frustrated at someone who is successful in the mainstream.

did you all know that the ird have a framed photo of big bruv on their wall..?
..and they confirm he is the only honest taxi driver in new zealand..
..scrupulous with declaring all income to ird and employers..
..legend has it he has sewed up the pockets on his pants..
..as physical proof that he does not ‘trouser’…
..the ird-legend goes onto say his neighbors had to get heavy-duty curtains..
..the glow from his halo was impinging on/disturbing their sleep-patterns..
..is this all true..?..oh only honest taxi driver in new zealand…
..the only things he rips-off are the scabs from his nervous twitches..

Two couples had arranged to spend a long weekend at a country house hotel. On the drive to the hotel they shared a car and during the two hour journey they agreed that, to spice up the weekend, they would try a little partner swapping.
Vote:Having checked into the hotel each went on to the bedroom with their new partner. The sex started immediately. It was hot and heavy. After half an hour one of the men turned to his new partner and said.

black paul: Dunne said on Vote Chat recently (I think that’s where I heard it) that he regretted voting against civil unions. That’s backed up by this:
He’s also quoted as saying joining up with Christian interests was a mistake, there were some odd ones in the party after 2002.

One dismal rainy night in New Zealand, a Taxi driver spotted an arm waving
Vote:from the shadows of an alley .

Sue spread her legs, put her feet up on the front seat, smiled
at the driver, and said, “Does this answer your question?”
Still looking in the mirror, the cabbie asked, “Have you got anything

Peter Dunne to the rescue:

“Peter Dunne? Why?”

One for the absent and missed Johnboy:
Taking his seat in chambers, Mayor John Banks faced the opposing lobbyists. “I have been presented by both of you with a bribe,” John Banks began. Both lobbysits squirmed uncomfortably.
Banks continued, “You, F E Smith, gave me $15,000. And you, David Garrett, gave me $10,000.”
Mayor John Banks reached in his pocket a pulled out a check, which he handed to F E Smith. “Now, then, I’m returning $5,000 difference, and we are going to decide this case solely on its merits.”

A professor of mathematics sent an e-mail to his wife. It read:
Dear Wife,
You must realize that you are 54 years old, and I have certain needs which you are no longer able to satisfy. I am otherwise happy with you as a wife, and I sincerely hope you will not be hurt or offended to learn that by the time you receive this letter, I will be at the Grand Hotel with my 18-year-old teaching assistant. I’ll be home before midnight.
Your Husband
When he arrived at the hotel, there was a faxed letter waiting for him that read as follows:
Dear Husband,
You, too, are 54 years old, and by the time you receive this letter, I will be at the Breakwater Hotel with the 18-year-old pool boy. Being the brilliant mathematician that you are, you can easily appreciate the fact that 18 goes into 54 a lot more times than 54 goes into 18.
Don’t wait up.
