Rosemary McLeod in the Dominion Post writes on Charles Chauvel:

MINE is a thankless trade. Surely all writing is. You beaver away with scarcely a word of encouragement – and then screens take the place of paper, and you become endangered as well as thankless.

You don’t anticipate this. You couldn’t have imagined a time when yesterday’s work wouldn’t be wrapping tomorrow’s takeaways. But that day is fast upon you, and it’s time to get a grip. What would Labour MP Charles Chauvel do in a situation like ours? That’s the question.

    “This is what they have to resort to, try to paint me as a rich prick, or gay, or somehow devious, or all three and try to blacken my character and make me less attractive for election,” Mr Chauvel complained, as if the very words “rich”, “prick”, and “devious” did not amount to a description of the very people who quite naturally run the world, and strive manfully to earn these coveted descriptions.

    As to whether Mr Chauvel is attractive, that’s for others to decide. He was not exactly tasty when he said he wished that a crying young child on a plane would shut up last year, and he leans toward the podge, but that never stopped anyone having an active romantic life. As for being described as “gay”, Mr Chauvel is happily out, and among Labour supporters that’s bound to be more in his favour than otherwise.

    What really is unattractive is complaining when you’ve been caught out at a particularly crafty piece of footwork. That’s the time to crow, surely, knowing that everyone else, whatever they may insist to the contrary, is only jealous that they didn’t do it first.

    Yet another self-entitled lefty a-la Chris Carter’s attitude to life and politics.

    Where does Liarbore find these people?

    They seem to have rather a lot of them, don’t they. Perhaps it’s something in the water.

    But even with your outing of him, he will fly in the Labour environment.
    that says it all about The Labour party and it’s followers/voters for me.

    The real weakness for us all is that the Watermelons social agenda gets in on the act with Labour.

    The best way to treat the politican Chauvel and the others of his ilk is to laugh at them. They deserve to be laughed st and laughed about.

    They display a mentality of arrogance and anal rententiveness ( apt) that calls for be pillored.

    What a pompous boor Chauvel is. Up himself a legend in his own lunch time. Sad little man with an inflated opinion of his worth.

    He is merely one of my lowly employees in Wellington Nothing more Nothing less. A mere servant who has dared to act above his position which is under me (apt)

    So laugh long Laugh loud at them. They hate it It pricks their ballon sized ego.

    LMS. you hit it . what a pompous boor Charlie is , a sad little man/girl in every sense of the word.
    A legend ,The prince of the hard done by , the best Laboiur has. A joke.
    Huge chip on shoulder. Sense of entitlement. If you’r not with me you must be homophobic.
    Just a joke, and a sick one to boot.
    He makes Chris Carter look like a …………………Good keen man.
    Charles is a sad little man. Very sad, He rose to his level of incompetence long ago.
    End of.
    Still he is the best Labour can muster.

    I saw him on Backbenches last Wednesday and he was sneering, arrogant, juvenile and downright obnoxious. Peter Dunne is a shoo-in.
