Vernon Small on Kiwibank

I am as mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more.
Ok, that might be going a bit far.
I admit I’m not one to get especially outraged by political spin – or to be surprised that an election campaign will bring out the worst lies, half-truths and statistics.
But with just three days to go, here are the top five things I am sick of hearing from politicians, press releases or “loyal” supporters.
1) National will sell Kiwibank
No it won’t. Certainly not in the next three years – quite the reverse. in fact if it has any intention of winning in 2014 it would be nuts to even try, and frankly it is a bit soon to be fighting the 2014 campaign.
This is Labour’s latest lie. This is despite John Key saying National will never sell Kiwibank while he is Prime Minister. Labour can’t win on the truth.
The other four things Vernon is sick of hearing is:
- The after-tax wage gap with Australia has closed
- The number of people leaving for Australia is/was better/worse under Labour/National
- There is a $16 billion hole in Labour’s fiscal plans
- Labour will only borrow an extra $4b
- Winston Peters’ voters are dying out
I’m pleased to see that Vernon’s estimate of extra debt under Labour is close to mine. I make it $12b and Vernon says “about $10-12b”.
Of course that is just Labour’s extra debt. You have to add on the billions to appears Greens, NZ First and Mana also.

This is despite John Key saying National will never sell Kiwibank…
Yeah and National said it would never increase GST, because it’s the party of cutting taxes, not raising them. lol
The trouble with you, David, is that you believe everything the PM tells you. You probably believed him when he talked about Standard and Poors telling him a that a credit downgrade was more likely under Labour. That turned out to be bullshit.
More recently the PM has said there will be a cap on foerign ownership of State assets, but the government hasn’t received any advice on such a cap. Indeed, the government refuses to release information about what advice it’s received.
National could well sell Kiwibank. Of course, if the PM was forever telling us the truth, I would be less inclined to make the previous statement.
[DPF: Did National see a single state asset this term after pledging to? No? And the GST commitment (which was not in the manifesto, was just in response to a Q+A) was about raising it to pay for spending commitments. It was not about a tax swap.
But thanks for proving Vernon's point about how sick he is of demented partisans repeating lies or mistruths]

Odd that Goff is trying to make something of Kiwibankthis late in the campaign, hard to see what he can gain with his ‘me too’ pledge gimmick. Brash is probably the only one who would consider selling Kiwibank.

Pete,
The Finance Minister as recently as last year was suggesting that Kiwibank could be sold. So why wouldn’t National sell it?

ross:
a) because it is not on the list of assets National propose to part sell
b) because National have said they won’t propose any other sales without seeking a mandate next election
c) because key has made it clear Kiwibank won’t be sold while he’s Prime Minister
Labour scaremongering does nothing for their election chances, especially when it is obvious bullshit.

Because their leader has promised they would not.

“Labour Party leader Phil Goff has pledged that a Labour government will never sell Kiwibank.”
Bizarre, Goff can’t make a credible pledge on behalf of all future Labour governments. It could be out of his hands in a week.

What’s your problem Ross? Don’t vote for National, how hard can it be?

And what really gets me is that more hasnt been made of JK actually going to the people and telling them about asset sales BEFORE an election.
Think Clark and Cullen. Never ever told us what they would and actually did do. Instead lied made promises they knew they couldnt keep.
Same as 1984. Lange et al sure as hell didnt tell us what he Roger Richard and David had planned for us. ( mind you just as well)
So whats Goof doing. Promising what he cant deliver.’
How the hell can ANY pollie talk about borrowing at a time like this. We should be cutting costs cutting expenses living within our income.
That is what citizens like myself andf my wife have done in the 35 years we have been married. When we borrowed we made sure we had the income to pay back the interest and the principle on time and in full.
Yes other have done the same but I will say it as Im sick to death of hearing pollies banging on spending more amd more and then saddling me with the bloody problem.
So JK Goof et al. Get you shit together my friends Learn like me to live within your means. Dont make promises you bloody well know you cant keep and finally just concerntrate on
Delivering the mail
Defending the shores
And get the F… outta my life

“Because their leader has promised they would not.”
And we know how the PM likes to keep his promises. LMAO
The Finance Minister has indicated that he wants Kiwibank sold. Vernon Small must’ve been asleep when the Finance Minister made that announcement.

ross, your an idiot. The Finance Minister does not unilaterally decide government policy.
Oh, and way to ignore the half dozen posts showing you your arse.
