Espiner to TV3

December 15th, 2011 at 3:00 pm by David Farrar

Stuff reports:

TV3 has confirmed it has poached TVNZ’s political editor Guyon Espiner.

He will work as a journalist for current affairs show 60 Minutes, starting in February.

Espiner has been TVNZ’s political editor since 2006 and also hosted the Sunday morning programme Q+A for the state broadcaster.

I can remember Guyon starting in the press gallery in the 1990s, but that just makes me feel old!

Certainly a coup for TV3 to pick Guyon up, and good to see them beefing up 60 minutes. I suspect Guyon will appreciate a less hectic lifestyle as his two roles of press gallery in Wellington and Q+A every weekend must have been draining.

Funny, other commenters seem to have taken words out of my mouth!

I dont know if he’s a “commie” but I do know he’s a liar and a coward…claiming I was “hiding behind name suppression” in refusing to speak to him when he knew very well (or ought to have if he is half the “journalist” he claims to be) that I COULD not speak about the case because of the suppression order…which I and not they then sought urgently to lift….I notice the gutless prick publicly ruled out ever standing for parliament himself…

I will miss him for only one reason. Espiner has a hatred of Winston that is hard for him to hide. He (Espiner) was one journo who Winston could not fob off with his usual bullshit and lies.

Like David Garrett I am not sure that Espiner is a commie, indeed it is hard to tell what his own politics might be and that makes a nice change.

Where I do agree with DG is that Espiner (like the rest of the “pack”) are far too quick to make moral judgments or give us the ‘benefit’ of their opinion. For the record I could not give a fuck what Espiner, Gower or any of the other hacks think, I just want the facts and not their spin.

BB: I am not in much doubt as to Espiner’s politics…well left of centre like most of them….but I wholeheartedly agree re the injection of his opinions….the very idea of a political journalist – or ANY journalist for that matter – having a blog where they push or even offer their own opinions is ridiculous, and just shows how far their “profession” has fallen…

Commie or not, anyone called Guyon Espiner is definitely a sufferer of Whales “silly name syndrome”. :)
