Peter Davis on Labour Leadership

December 9th, 2011 at 9:34 am by David Farrar

From today’s Herald

The Brian Rudman column he refers to is this one. The column is pretty obviously an implicit endorsement of Cunliffe, so this suggests that Davis, like his wife, is a Cunliffe supporter.

“The column is pretty obviously an implicit endorsement of Cunliffe”. Did you read the same article? It mostly comments about Shearer, both listing why he’s seen as a good potential candidate and why he’s seen as a risk. The comments on Cunliffe are similarly balanced. Peter Davis’ comments that the piece gives equal treatment and the conclusion was reasonably agnostic seem bang on to me.

You’re normally better at fomenting mischief DPF!

Oh come on, you can not be that naive. In the column Rudman says:

    * no one knows what Shearer’s x-factor may be
    * sarcastically refers to Shearer as a saviour and a Xmas myth
    * Says one should not choose a leader on basis of such a myth
    * Says x-factors do not win elections
    * Points out Brash raised National’s vote more than Key

if davis says something, assume the opposite pretty easily.

He is generally a good negative indicator of the way the wind is blowing on most things, as its usually the polar opposite of his whiny letter to the editor.

it would be nice if the letters people ever declared his position, he writes in as random member of the public but hes helens husband ffs!

It must be a real strain on their marriage, with him living in Kingsland and his wife so far away in New York. Still at least his job leaves him enough time to write letters to the editor.

The increasing frequency with which Davis writes Letter to the Editor since his wife lost the 2008 election and moved abroad is interesting.

I know of no other spouse of a former Prime Minister with a desire to publicly share their opinions on all manner of political topics, and it leaves one wondering just how much influence he enjoyed when his wife was the Prime Minister.

Perhaps without political influence anymore he is reduced to writing to the Herald?

The rumour has been going around for a number of years that Davis got out of the States on a diplomatic passport and that is why he has not been to the States. Does anyone know if Davis has been to the States since Helen went there?

This is not just a matter of talking about a politician’s family. If the rumour that has been around the National Party as well as elsewhere is true if would be more than that if in involved using a diplomatic passport to avoid investigation and/or prosecution.

It would also reflect badly on the MSM ignoring what Ian Wishart tried very hard to get to the bottom of.

I was not the first on this thread to comment about Davis not visiting Helen in the States.

Helen was a phony in many ways. She tried to portray herself as an artist.

The has been a lot of rumours going around within National that Davis was being investigated for criminal offending. This may or may not be true but if a husband if there were rumours of the husband of a National MP I bet the media would be acting differently. Compare how the media treated Worth compared with Hughes.

If you think such are “big words” you’re as thick as a brick.

DPF happily pinched his “fomenting happy mischief” and put it at the top of his blog the day Davis uttered it. Maybe David is sending the great unwashed — ie you — a message

    :-)

Nobody in National would be so far in the gutter, even as a rumour. The whole business was a masturbatory wet dream of Ian Wishart’s.
