“Police have confirmed children, some aged under 10, have been roaming Featherston, committing crimes and abusing people.

Sergeant Kevin Basher said the problem started about six months ago, when a core of three or four troublemakers, with as many as 15 others, began a campaign of crime – lighting fires, stealing, damaging cars, shops and houses and abusing people in the street.”

So, what is their solution….

“It all comes back to parental control. We are taking a holistic approach, looking at the families and into such things as whether these kids are getting three meals a day, have a bed to sleep in with clean sheets.”

Ha ha ha ha ha ha, yes, encourage the young crims. Whatever happened to punishment?

i also see Japan has a population problem. Their young folk have given up shagging. They interviewed 1 bloke who said realtionships are too difficult and that he would have to give up his weekends if he got a girlfrind. The woman are also, it appears, becoming stronger and more independant .. oh well

First of all, it is standard practice, when anything happens, in the ME to blame the Jews-Zionists-Israel so don’t take this at face value.

That doesn’t mean that Israel is not involved.
However, there are a lot of other parties that are ‘unhappy’ with the Iranian regime.
1. Russia. Although a supporter (Oil), it is unhappy with Irans nuclear ambitions.
2. Israel. They take the regime’s threats seriously.
3. US. They are ‘unhappy’ with Irans nuclear ambitions (among other things).
4. Saudi Arabia. Power struggle Shiite-Sunni rivalry.

Then there is also an internal struggle going on.
1. The ‘Green movement’. Probably supported by some of the 4 above.
2. The tension, power-struggle between the military and the basji.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious. I do realise that what is reported inthe papers is not what is actualy going on. Plus when a prominent Arab scientist is sent to meet 70 virgins, there is probably a lot more clock and dagger going on and more parties involved then you can shake a stcik of dynomite at.

But thanks for treating my satire like I’m a 12yearold.

@Scott Chris. Perhaps Israel is assinating these scientists and blowing up nuclear research facilities – but why shouldn’t they? The Iranian regime is making no bones about the fact that when their weapons are operational that Israel will get toasted. Maybe it is all piss and vinegar, but when you have a regime with an apocalyptic vision for the future perhaps taking them at their word is prudent. Frankly, Iran as it is ruled now is a good reason for the doctrine of the Pre-emptive Strike.

@immigant – I think you will find the dead scientist is Persian, not Arab, but the virgin thing still applies.

Interesting that The Standard sees contractors like DPF’s company as ‘taxpayer funded’. I guess you could say this in the broadest sense but taxpayer funded generally means you would not exist without government support and subsidies, not that you are selling a service or goods to the government.
I think all commentators, whatever their politics, should strive to be accurate and to use words with care. For instance, it is unfair and mischievous to suggest the millions spent on judges is for junkets. Most of the costs are involved in the legitimate travel expenses of circuit judges, a very important part of our justice system. The expenditure is less therefore on judges than on the administration of the courts.
As for Sian Elias taking her husband on approved trips. It is a worry when we expect people in high places to foot the bill themselves for legitimate expenses. I suspect John Key has set a difficult precedent for future PMs by not taking his salary. In the remote chance that Shearer might last long enough to become PM, his family trusts, properties and UN pension might be more than enough to support him without taking a salary from the taxpayer.
The media could be more helpful and more truthful. As a taxpayer, I accept there are a lot of things we just have to pay for, like it or not.

Im not convinced Iran will get nukes. I think there will be a joint israeli/ yank strike.

Obama will want to show some balls leading up to the election.

If Tehran close the straight, the yanks will bomb the shit out of them 🙂

Brian and Andy – The Iranian regime only survives because it is given ammunition by the West to demonize the West. That is the whole point. The West is nurturing a victim mentality in Iranians. If they really wanted to protect the freedom of their citizens, they would seek detente, not war.

And as for blaming Israel for assassinating the scientists – I didn’t, although it is likely Mossad is behind the killings.

But if a scientist showed signs of defecting to the west, it would also be in the Iranian authorities interests to murder him in a way that looked like Mossad did it. It’s an assholes game.

This is not related to anything posted above. I just wanted to say how customer unfriendly and arrogant New World were to radically change their frozen goods aisles (at Fronterra’s urging) just before Christmas. The ailses of the supermarket I shop at were chocker with frustrated shoppers who couldn’t find what they wanted. You now have to look in three places to get your cheese, and the staff can’t find items either! Very dumb PR. Countdown is now coming to Warkworth, and although I don’t particularly go for them I will give them a try. I wonder if New World have any idea of the lifetime value of a customer!

SHELL is freezing the price of petrol because its out of reach for many consumers and as from next month they will give it away for some age groups,i.e school attendees.Now thats a business model.
Pity about those rich,dirty,polluting,greedy farmers.

Police are assuring Featherston residents they’re doing all they can to control a group of youths who’ve been causing problems in the Wairarapa town.

A group of children is being blamed for a spate of crimes over the past six months, including vandalism, petty theft and lighting fires.

Some are as young as six-years-old.

Masterton Senior Seargent Warwick Burr says the problems stem from a large family in Featherston, and police are working with CYF to get the children some help.

“While we acknowledge that there is a problem, it’s not a case where a whole community is being terrorised by a small group of juveniles that the police and other organisations cannot do something about.”

Senior Seargent Burr says the teenage ringleaders have been attracting others to the group.
